  • Used car advice 10 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I've just sold an old Porsche Boxster S (25MPG) and am about to part company with my Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.6D (60MPG). I'd like to replace them with one car that finds a healthy compromise between the 2. I'm looking for something with great economy as I cover around 24k per year, some style and a strong engine as I enjoy driving enthusiastically. The number of seats isn't too important, but I would prefer something with a decent boot.
  • Mercedes E350e & Mercedes C350e Saloons - Plug in Petrol hybrids as company cars 29 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The Financial and Benefit in Kind / Tax aspects are covered by the employer's Lex Fleet web calculators. But please any experience or views of the Mercedes E & C class saloons generally and the plug in hybrids in particular.
  • Vauxhall 100k Lifetime Warranty 4 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi, A car covered by the Vauxhall 100,000 Lifetime Warranty.... I understand it has to be serviced by the dealer, but do you have to pay for this, or is it included and as such free? A 2011 used Vauxhall I'm thinking of buying privately, has a full dealer service history until the last one a month ago.
  • Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - Vandal damage to roof 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have had my 2000 primera vandalised in the form of someone jumping on the roof and covering the doors/bonnet with paint stripper. My worry is now that the car will be wrote off as it is probably only worth around £1000 but I really like this car it has been so reliable and has never really given me any trouble.
  • Safe 20,000 oil changes? 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Its really evidence (IMHO) thats needed and time some consumer research was done. It would be easy for a selection of cars to have their cam covers taken off, cam lobe wear and sludging contrasted with conventional service interval cars and the results published. The service books would provide the evidence and IMHO a trend would start to show if a number of cars were examined.
  • Built in or bolt on - SatNav 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I may have missed this as a topic, I did do a search and found an FAQ but it didn't cover this - Do you buy a car with SatNav built in, or do you buy TomTom et al and stick it on the windscreen? Most car makers want £1500 - £2000 for built in SatNav where as TomTom etc are £300-500.

  • New car on 1st September 25 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I collect my new car (first ever diesel) next Wednesday. Oooh! I'm tingly all over and covered with goosebumps in anticipation. Yes, yes it's the one I can afford because I've worked hard, paid off my mortgage, nearly finished paying for the school fees and so on.

I need a bit of space for luggage so a smallish car would be out of the question. There will be 2 of us travelling. Thanks in anticipation. Iain
  • BMW 320D Injection Fuel Pump 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My car is two years old and has covered 35,000 miles, I use Shell diesel and most of my jouneys are motorways. Early this year the fuel pump had to be replaced along with some damaged parts - timing guardrail.
  • 1993 Mitsubishi Galant 25 Nov 2001 (Forum)
A chap at work is selling an L registered Mitsubishi Galant which has only covered 59 000 miles for 2 grand - this seems very cheap for a car that would have cost the thick end of 20 grand only 6 years ago. Anyway My father is very interested as he wants to replace his 190 000 mile 1989 Passat, with something equally economical and capacious.

  • Corsa C twinport - Oil leak Mystery 29 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Hi all.I have just bought a Corsa C, 02 with 100000 on the clock. It has a horrid oil leak around the timing cover area,Now I'm not an expert by far but set about curing it.I took off all the ancilaries then the timing cover, tensioners and chain etc(After setting it up with the special things to stop the engine moving inside.I removed the timing case gasket, cleaned the surface ready for refitting.I replaced the crankshaft seal, and noticed a groove in the crankshaft pully hub(Wow I,m getting into this) din,t think no more of it.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Prang - damage not immediately obvious 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
However, I am fully comp insured, so technically I think I could claim for the damage. But as I haven't reported the prang yet, would I still be covered? Also, I just took it to my regular garage - would an insurance company cover repairs carried out by a garage not appointed by them? Garage haven't carried out repairs yet - they're going to tell me how much it will cost first.
  • 309 1.9 d-turbo-s - bypass lucas pump immobiliser 9 May 2011 (Forum)
From what i have read im guessing it is the immobiliser stopping the pump from injecting diesel. i have no keypad immobiliser. I have the later Lucus pump. i have today cut off the tamper proof cover which covers the stop solenoid and found 2 black wires to it. i have one blue plug with 3 wires and a black plug with 4 wires going to the pump. its got to the stage now im pulling my hair out and everytime i look at the car its enough to give me a headache.
  • Astra 1.7TD - valve rocker thingy broken 11 Aug 2007 (Forum)
After making sure the timing belt was still in one piece and taking off the rocker box cover, I discovered part of one of the valves broken off. It's the bit that has the flat edge that is pushed down by the cam. It's broken off from a round thing that presumably sat on top of the valve.
  • 96N Peugeot 405 19.TD oil in air box 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
There is a separate hose (which seems to be very oily) leading from the valve, and it then disappears under the intercooler - am guessing it is a rocker cover breather hose - will have a chance for a proper look on monday when I change the rocker cover gasket. I'm just wondering if there is a common problem on these cars that could account for this pipe to be leaking oil into the air box?
  • A Close Shave 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
After peering with a torch I saw it, and then tried to grab it with a pair of long nosed pliers. No luck, but lots of swearing! Eventually resorted to taking the rocker box cover off to get to it. A half hour job lasted 2 hours. I wasn't impressed, but mightily relieved. Driving off with it in the top of the engine still sends shivers down my spine. I think Anne might be coming with me to do other jobs on the car again.....
  • Omega 2.5 V6 Oil in spark plug recess 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have not checked the three on the other side. Even with three plugs totally covered by oil the car ran perfectly. No oil has dripped onto the floor. I have now cleaned the oil out of the three plug recesses and will see if it comes back. Does anyone have any advice please ?
  • Peugeot Cam Belts 4 May 2001 (Forum)
I think I can honestly say yhat apart from a Toyota MR2 this has got to be the most unfriendly installation I have come across to date. Whoever "designed" the underbonnet area on that car? I suspect a committee did it. For example why shroud the entire belt cover area with every pipe possible? Why make it virtually impossible to remove the turbo pipes to enable the hidden cover bolts to be removed?
