  • No fault accident claim 10 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I got around to scouring through the rest of the documents and made myself aware of the removal charges plus the daily storage fees.as well as the conditional fee agreement.  Obviously I'm aware of the implications if I exert my right to cancel within the 14 days, I imagine I will be liable for recovery and storage costs, plus some made up solicitors fees.
  • Mixing All Saeason and Summer Tyres 27 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I'm attracted to the idea of All Season Tyres with winter straight ahead, and the level of road clearance and gritting locally frankly getting more tardy year on year. As the rears are fine, and pennies being a bit tight ( as is storage space) I'm wandering if All season tyres could go on the front drive wheels and not on the back until they need replacing..?   I know its a no no supposedly with winter tyres, but wandered if it was any different to having different brands on the front and back really if done with all seasons ?
  • Renault Dacia - Renault - end of discounting? 6 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Vauxhall have recently tried to address the same issue by only producing certain models to order, although a friend did say they have a growing number of vehicles in storage and already are being tempted to discount heavily to fleet to get them shifted.   Whats the big problem with making the list price more realistic?
  • Honda Civic cdti - aluminium engine corrosion 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
i have ,5 days ago purchased the above and noticed the engine is covered in a white powder deposit this is obviously some form of aluminium corrosion ,  bearing in mind this vehicle had only done 5 miles and is brand new does this indicate the car has been languishing in a storage field for last 2 years? is it detrimental? should it be there? should the engine be laquered in order to stop this happening?it doesnt look very good from hondas point of view does it?i  would be very interested in your comments!
  • Audi 80 Cabrio (1992 - 2002) - 1997 2.6 Electric Hood malfunction 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone help with a cabriolet hood which opens only part way then sticks with the rear window section having moved up and the rear hood storage lid lifts about 2 inches. You can hear the hydraulic pump working and the hydraulic reservoir is up to level. There is no sign of any broken wires in the boot. The windows drop down slightly as they should.
  • All makes - Contaminated Fuel 15 Nov 2019 (Forum)
The problem seems to be have been made worse following the introduction of bio in the fuel which causes a by product of water when it mixes with fuel. The water collects in the base of the storage tank and is mixed with fuel when a delivery takes or the tank runs low. So maybe avoid any station where there is a tanker in attendance . Has anyone had problems like this which can destroy an engine and turbo ?
  • Porsche Boxster 2008 - Service due warning 1 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The garage had serviced the car and told me that it would not need doing for two years. The car was in storage since last October and was run occaisionly. Unfortunately when I went to start it this morning the battery was very low and needed a jump start to get the engine running. The car is great except that every time I put the ignition on it warns me that it needs a service now.
  • Biodiesel content to go from 5% to 7%? 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
(Some truck operators find that oil and filter changes are needed more often and some have had issues with sludge and algae in fuel since using biodiesel, though this is blamed on storage, as it is presumed OK as it leaves the refinery).
  • Registration out by one digit on car insurance 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Of course, if the insurance is invalid then she's possibly got a ban and fine and we're out of pocket by about 11k (plus you can imagine the cost of the storage, assessment and the £350 excess to pay .......) Insurance broker is shut and we're, quite understandably, worried sick ....
  • Weight of petrol 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I know petrol does expand with temperature, but it got me wondering by what proportion, and does it matter? Most petrol station storage tanks are I presume underground, and so their temperature shouldn't vary much day by day, but should we be buying the stuff by weight?
  • Registration query re emmisions 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Slightly complicated one this, a vehicle was manufactured in 2000 and was put into storage then was registered in France in 2003 though still unused. The reason it was registered was because of euro emmisions regs it would not have been able to be registered as new after Dec 2003. So now if it was imported into the UK and registered here would if have a 03 or 53 plate based in it's date of first registration in France and it's emmisions compliance at that time?
  • Passat boot is too big! 6 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My point is.. is it really neccesary to have such a large trunk? why not more rear room instead. It's too much storage space for Mr average.
  • Accidents and AA / RAC cover 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
A friend at work says the only reason he gets cover is for this eventuality, but another friend says that she had to pay for towing and storage costs after an accident. I'd always assumed they would recover the car as they always bandy words like recovery and rescue around, but thinking about it, the service they sell is *Breakdown* recovery.
  • Honda Jazz - Time for a change, maybe 30 Sep 2021 (Forum)
We're also in the process of moving house, so being mindful of the increasing necessity to shift large numbers of boxes between houses and storage units, this is what I'm thinking. Something bigger, again a hatchback, with as close as possible to Jazz-like reliability, a bit more oomph under the bonnet and a non-codger image to dissuade the tailgaters.
  • Renault Clio, Citroen Xsara Picasso, MB C-Class - SORNd cars dumped in Residents Parking 3 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Pay for them to be removed to a safe place of "storage"... I am sure you can legally find out who the owners are, advise them that the cars need to be removed in xxx days and then just do that. I dropped the hint with a neighbour that the council were lookin at the cars in our street/private parking areas and one of them moved and the other was moved nto the owners reseved parking space.
  • £105 to have car theft investigated 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
A third alternative is that your car will be moved to a place of safety and you will be charged for the removal and subsequent storage and than another £105 if you want it foresicated. Not all of these charges may be paid out by your insurance company. I empasis that this is a Home Office initiative not a police one.
  • Which 7 Seater? 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I would appreciate any advice or recommendations on a decent second hand 7-seater about the £4-7k bracket. Majority of time I only need 5 seats with PLENTY of storage/luggage space, occasionally 7/8 seats but luggage space not an issue then. So I was thinking that most small people carriers are out, and maybe an estate is best option. I'd prefer a diesel, but petrol would be ok if mpg was good.
  • SORN my second car? 11 May 2020 (Forum)
Is it worth registering my second car as SORN, until the lock down is over?  It was my intention to sell it, but I the second car as storage for stuff. Car is off-road in residents parking. Still insured. It was my intention to sell my second car car, but I am not sure what to do about that. It is an old car, so I will probably get £600 for it.
  • Virginmedia v6 box 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
We had a v6 box installed last October, replacing a TiVo box. The difference is like night and day, it’s faster, more capable and has vast storage capacity for recorded items. However, the thing packed up in July and a new one was installed. 2 days ago the replacement packed up too, so we have the so-called engineer coming out tomorrow and no doubt the solution will be a further replacement.
  • Advice for a moving company? 13 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It's been quite some time now and I am still unable to convince myself in a trustworthy moving company that also supports storage. Yes, I've made the effort of consulting with as many people as i could. They gave me reccomendations such as getting an ordinary Man and Van assistance(not entirely sure it was called that way, because it's supposed to be 1 man, which ends up cheap.
