  my son has just got a citrone saxo 1.1 54k and is going to do a oil change. he wants to use a fully synthetic oil but is not sure wether to add a flushing adgent before changing. has any one got any advise regarding engine flush and is he wasting money using synthetic on a older car thanks

  Is there a easy/cheap way of getting the oil changed in a car? I have a 100K mileage Focus and want to change the oil every 6 months, are there specialist motor outlets who do this work, apart from main garages, which will work out expensive.

  I have always in the past, (with older cars) after changing the oil filter, immobilised the ignition and spun the engine over for a few seconds in order to get the oil pressure up, before starting the engine properly. Is this good practice with a Cat, or am I in danger of flooding it with fuel?

  My less-than 20,000 mile Almera has done nearly 5,000 miles since its last service. The service interval is 9,000 miles, but that feels to me like a long time to run on the same oil. I'm no mechanic, but I do know that on diesels, frequent oil changes are one of the most crucial parts of maintenance, and although this car is petol-engined, I'm wondering if it'd be wiser to get an oil-change now.

  I have had a Yaris 1.4D4D from new (11,000 miles now) and would like to change the gearbox oil but, because it's still under warranty would prefer to get the main dealer do do the work. However, they insist the latest Yaris does not ever need a gearbox oil change. I said, I would still prefer it done, but they say "no need, it's got special oil that doesn't break down" etc etc.

  Those of you relying on National for between service oil changes will find a 50% increase in price,and they will only do it if they use their own filter,I always take a Toyota one.This might invalidate new car warranties .The nearby Quickfit had no oil! Geriatric

  National Tyres are offering an oil and filter change for £15. The oil is Duckhams QXR (max. 5 litres)semi synthetic and the filter unspecified. How do they do it? Halfords charge £20.99 for QXR alone. A small garage would charge, what, £20/hour labour?

  I am thinking about buying some engine flush to add to my next oil change, the car I have just bought seems to have missed oil changes for the past year or two. The dealer did an oil change but already after a week it is turning black with dirt. Forte seems to be a quality flush product, is it worth it or better to do more frequent oil changes every 3k and let the oil clean things out using detergents?

  Having decided to follow HJ's advice on changing oil frequently, I'd like to know whether frequency of changes should be determined by mileage or time. If I do 12,000 miles a year, but 6000 of those in the first 4 months, should I change after the 6000, or after 6 months?

  I have a 58 plate Mazda 6 2.0L Diesel. I have had the dreaded dpf light come on and took it to the Mazda dealer. They advised changing the oil and filter and regenerating the dpf. I opted to change the oil and filter myself and return it for them to them to do the regeneration. Having changed the oil and filter, the car will now not turn over.

  Hi, My 2005 Suzuki Alto has been standing unused for 3 months. I drove it today and the oil light came on (started flashing at first then stayed on constantly). The oil level was correct so I changed the oil and filter as it was nearly due an oil change anyway. I took it for a drive but the oil light stayed on.

  I would like to change the gearbox oil on my Passat. I have bought some Redline MT-90 oil from Opie Oils. It is 75W-90 GL4, so I think it is suitable. Please can anyone tell me where the drain plug is, or if there is a drain plug.

  Dear Honest John, I am new to Mercedes so please forgive me for the question. My Mercedes E220 CDI 2006 might need an auto gearbox oil change. When the car is cold, the auto is a bit funny,ie not super smooth, but changes gears as normal. When hot, is plush as anything.  I just want to know if you ever change the Auto Gearbox oil, at what interval and what specs oil should i use?
