Breakdown cover 1 mile scam? 9 Jan 2024 (Forum)
But if i break down just under a mile or even half a mile from home.... that's quite a long way. There's not many people be wanting to push a car 0.5 miles back home. Why is that not included as standard? Seems a bit of a scam to me. Perhaps many people don't realise how far that is? Goto google maps, right click on your home, then click measure distance, and drag a 1 mile (or 1.6km) radius, pull it in all directions, and ask yourself, what would i do if my car broke down that far away. -
Using UK reg car abroad long term 17 Aug 2017 (Forum)
(I imagine It's not possible to get an Italian policy for a non-Italy registered car...?) Finally, given the above, is it possible to buy breakdown/recovery coverage in Italy on a UK registered/MOT'd car? If not, would a UK breakdown policy cover use in Italy(Europe) not solely for short-term/vacation coverage? -

Avensis steering clunk 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I thought it was just soft engine mountings until I read the HJ car-by-car breakdown. Does this sound like it is actually the steering rack issue that is cured by re-greasing mentioned in the HJ car-by-car breakdown? Is the fix important (i.e. safety, durability) and should I be looking to get it done under warranty? -

Wheel stuck vw golf 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Embarrasing call to the breakdown company this evening. Got a flat, duly jacked up the car, undid the nuts, then couldn't get the wheel off. Felt a real numpty. Thankfully(?) the breakdown guy also really struggled (in fact kicked my wheel harder than I felt reasonable!). -
Woman locks child in car scenario.. 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
From Manchester Evening News website http://tinyurl.com/yhyzu5 IMHO you can't pay for basic roadside rescue and then expect Green Flag to come out for what is essentially not a breakdown. Granted it was a small child locked in a cold car but still not really in Green Flag's jurisdiction. I sympathise with her predicament, I'm assuming she was 'at home' therefore the breakdown cover was null and void. -
Reliability Index 27 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I see the latest Warranty Direct reliability index has just been published. Some surprises there. But it is interesting to see how the cars are rated. The figure they come up with is a measure of number of breakdowns and the cost of them. Thus Subaru don't do too well because although they rarely breakdown, the cost of repairs is high. -

BBC1 Rogue Traders - did anyone see 6 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Last nights episode was revealing the dodgy car dealers who sell unsafe vehicles with fake MOTs, or masquerade as private sellers selling at the roadside. This was a truly appauling picture of the trade, with one guy who was filmed trying to 'elliminate' the camera crew by driving at them with a breakdown truck. -
Honda Jazz - Beware! breakdown cover 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
HI all,, I have my breakdown cover through my car insurance and thankfully have never had to use it until this week when I drove into a deep pothole. The tire must have deflated because the sound of the bang was typically wheel rim to ground. -
