VW Golf 1.6 FSi (2004) - Reduced power assisted steering (VW Golf) 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
However, I now have an amber warning light on my dash illuminated and the symbol is of a steering wheel. Looking this up in the manual it tells me the car is running with reduced power assisted steering. Which might explain the slight heaviness last week. I am no mechanic and having recently spent a considerable sum on a new ABS pump, I'm looking to see if anyone on here can tell me, 1) what could have caused this? -
Seat Leon 1.6 16v (04 plate) - Rough Idle/Stalling once warm 22 May 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have recently developed a problem with my 2004 Seat Leon 1.6 16v. From cold the car runs fine and I can drive it perfectly well. However, after around half an hour or when the car has warmed up it becomes nearly undriveable around town/moving off. Once warm the idle suddenly becomes very low, so much so that you can hardly hear the engine it is that quiet, the engine will idle rough and rev up and down all on its own. -
Vauxhall Vectra B - Vectra B starting issue 17 Apr 2014 (Forum)
b) why would it draw the air in when parked up/switched off ? (there are no issues when the car is running, its never cut out once started). i have also noticed over the past couple of days that if i park the car either "bonnet down" on a bit of a hill or on a kerb with the passenger side raised it starts 1st time without priming (weird or coincidnce). -
Mitsubishi and all others - dvla voiding tax disc- back to dealer? 21 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Expert opinions gratefully received. The cost of 6 months tax was over £150 - I forget the exact amount and I cba running out to check. THE QUESTIONS: Did the dealer know of this and "forget" to tell me? Wouldn't he normally have sent the disc back to DVLA for a refund? If he knew it was worthless he wouldn't have bothered - in fact he mumbled something about dealers no longer being able to do that. -
Diesel Auto for under £4500, What would you buy? 25 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Second choice is 2003 onwards Audi A4 1.9 TDi multitronic which again i like but its CVT Ive worked with Mercedes all my career and dislike older C classes because of there poor quality, rust issues and old mans image so we are running out of options! Buying advice for a newbie (& an old one at that!) 19 Dec 2013 (Forum)
- Weekend short journeys max 50 mile round trips - Every other month 150mile round trip Looking for: - Reliable, realitively cheap to run OR cheap total cost of ownership (stuck between diesel / petrol dilemma), as I dont think I have the budget to keep trading up. I think at this stage I'm more likley to pick a car and stick with it for a good while. -
Mazda 3 TS diesel - Mazda 3TS 2010 model - engine failure at 33k miles 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The car was serviced in December 2011 (admittedly circa 5 weeks late) but at that time the Mazda garage did not flag any issues with low oil. The car was running like a dream and my husband checks oil every 2 weeks. It is always fine. 4 months later and the car suddenly starts making ticking noise which seemed to get louder when revving engine at a junction. -
Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 02 1.9dti starting problem 27 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The car turns over as if there is no fuel and then it fires on one cylinder and then 2 until it eventually starts, i have taken out the fuel filter and it made no difference, i checked the fuel lines for air bubbles and there is none pressent.Once the car starts after churning it if u switch it off and start it again it fires into life right away no problem.the car starts fine when it is warm or after it has been started for the first time. It has all the evidence of fuel running back but i can find no leaks, is it possible for the fly by wire pump to be leaking internal or drawing air through the seal on the input shaft, or could the starter be drawing too much current when the engine is cold so that the electronic pump cant supply enough fuel. -
Ford Fiesta 1996 1.3 Endura-E, EFI - Ford Fiesta fuel pump failure - burning out pump 17 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The fuel level is low (mid-reserve), so imagine cooling its ideal but wouldnt have thought that the pump would burn out immediately - or without a problem while running. Any ideas / suggestions on identifying the fault appreciated. -
New Car for Under £12k 15 Sep 2013 (Forum)
My requirements are that I plan to keep the car for a long time, so it has to be reliable, cheap to run, 5-doors and boot space is important. It also has to handle relatively well. I'd ideally like it to be either new, or almost new, so either ex-demo/pre-reg or one previous owner less than a year old will do. -
Ford Focus 1800cc Zetec - Overheating engine 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
No problems before work done by local mechanic who has worked on the car the last 7 years. Since the work has been completed the engine runs very hot. The top of the engine, all hoses are very hot to touch. The engine compartment is very hot. After a few minutes the temp gauge reaches the mid point and does not move. There are no leaks to oil or water. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Immobiliser Problems 24 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have read through lots of solutions online and have checked the fuses, not sure if it has any relevance but when the car is running one of the big green relay fuses in the internal fuse box is getting very hot! Any ideas????? -
VW - Intermittent Throttle problem - Main Dealer Servic 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
My daughter has had a 2003 Polo since February and it was running well until we took it to the main Vw franchise in Slough to have a full service. We then started to have a problem with the throttle resetting as if you had taken your foot off the accelerator pedal. -
2.0 Mondeo tdci - Glow plug lights and white smoke 9 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Gentle acceleration stops it cutting too. A mechanic friend did a quick test on the injectors...while the engine was running he disconnected the injectors one at a time. 3 of them caused the engine to knock, the 4th made no difference to the engine at all. So, from that we have presumed its one faulty injector. Someone did put a diagnostic on it but got no codes back (since found out he didn't have the right machine for our car so feeling very ripped off). -
First fill of biodiesel 28 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Anyway, I had about a third of a tank of derv when I brimmed the BMW with biodiesel for the first time yesterday evening (both fuels are completely miscible), and drove the 50 miles home with another 100 litres in containers in the boot. So far, so good - the engine seemed to run a little quieter, and the mpg needle seems to be a little less frightening. Actually, the mpg indicator seemed to show no change from normal driving (usually hovers around 40mpg), but with the fuel in the boot as well as a luggage bearing passenger (my brother is visiting) I'll hopefully see a more obvious improvement in consumption once the car is empty again. -
Ford Focus LX - Ford Focus stuttering... 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
He said that another Focus he had once worked on had the plugs seized in so tight because of a similar problem that the spanner stripped the plug nut and they had to remove the cylinder head to get it/them out. Of course I am not a mechanical expert, but he's got the car running sweet as a nut again so I am happy. I just wondered if any other people have washed the engine down and accidentally filled the plug access wells up with water and suffered for it later? -
Dartmoor at night - the hungry big cat 6 Feb 2013 (Forum)
But would you really walk the South Downs at night? - alone and with the hairs pricking on the back of your neck as a trickle of sweat runs down your back. Was that the sound of something big slobbering and licking it`s chops? Or a figment of the imagination. Funny how it feels a lot better if you are doing that with your mate. -
Zafira 1.8 petrol auto 2003 - Cold start problem - please help !! 1 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Had a new radiator fitted first to cure the leak although I know this is nothing to do with this issue, just trying to give all the history I know Thought maybe it was it not getting enough air, so the air intakee valve was stripped and cleaned and replaced with a new air filter at that point Still didn't seem to want to fire, so full set of new plugs were put in, coil pack has been replaced also Oil filter and oil changed Checked fuel pressure, the rail is primed and there is loads of fuel pressure so didn't appear to be a fuel supply issue Took it to a garage, had diagnostics done, ecu reported a faulty crank shaft sensor, replaced this, made no difference (although it has cured the rough idle when it is running) Battery is good, in fact cranked it over with battery attached to a second huge battery at same time and still same issue, so don't think it can be any issue there! At a loss as to what to try next ?? -
Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 06 1.2 - Engine Malfunction 2 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I'm driving a Nissan Micra 1.2 2006 "E" and on my way to work this morning, the yellow engine light appeared on the display. It is currently with a local garage who are running a diagnostic test, but I'm really worried it could be something serious. The sickening part of all is that the 3 year warranty only ran out 4 days ago (!!!) On my way home last night the engine seemed to be slightly less nippy than usual, and at one or two points, without applying any extra pressure to the accelerator, the car sped up slightly on its own. -
Ford Mondeo - Buying high mileage Mondeo 25 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I understand as a diesel key things are full service history and type of driving, ie don't want something that has done lots of running back and forth before warmed up. What else should I look for when looking round the car of this sort of age/mileage and typical faults. As far as I can see online 125k and 145k are big services with lots of replacements (timing chain etc...) so if I am near those services want to make sure those have been done but is there anything else?
