• Superficial windscreen damage 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
  A wiper blade on the Barchie has, unbeknownst to me, come adrift from its metal frame. Whilst in use the frame has been in contact with the windscreen at the top of its ´sweep´, rather than just the rubber blade. This has resulted in a nasty scuff on the windscreen - annoyingly in the driver´s line of vision. It looks a bit like a mucky smear but is in fact a surface scuff on the glass.

  Since the earlier thread has been locked as it travelled way OT... The last time I needed a new windscreen I decided that having experienced a decidedly variable service from specialist firms, I would take it to the main (BMW) dealer to replace. I was astonished that there was no quibble from the insurance company, only them telling me that I would need to pay upfront and send them the invoice for reimbursement (which only took a fortnight).

  t sure whether it would have the desired effect, i.e., sparkling clear windscreen. So, I spent about a half-hour siphoning it out with a small bore tube. Has anybody any tales of emergency measures for windscreens and radiators.? One of the tricks I learned when I was in Africa was how to fix a radiator leak when there were no motor factors for 100 miles in any direction.

  About 2 years ago I had a 307 with the 1.6hdi unit, this was the version with the Injectors at the front of the engine.  All wasok until the usual problem with this engine occured, the Injector Seals.  From my understanding of the cause centered on the injector mounting studs and incorrect servicing allowing Aftrer 2 attempts at sorting the problem, I eventurally became sick and traded in on for my current car, which I am looking to swap later this year for a small SUV, a 2008/Captur or a C Max I am a little worried that 2 of these vehicles had the HDI unit, be that the later generation with thhe injectors at the back, away from the heat of the turbo and EGR, could suffer the same problem.

  1st thing was the lack of a temp gauge, I was so used to checking it out for turning the heating system on, and how the engine is doing on a hot summer day. The first month the car pulled to the left when breaking. Then the front suspension knocks when coming OFF a speed bump as the springs de-compress.

  After a few seconds of it moving, I heard a loud crack. The seat had impacted the from windscreen and cracked it!! I couldn’t quite believe my eyes to be honest! I moved the seat back and watched the windscreen move back into place. Obviously shocked by this, I took the car immediately to my local service shop and was told the car couldn’t be fit in for 2 weeks or 6 if I want a courtesy car.

    Woke up this morning to find an L shape crack in my windscreen.  I think my insurance policy should cover the replacement (won't find out till tommorow) but I have two very important meetings so won't be able to get it sorted, till the end of the week.

  How do I connect windscreen washer pipe together? I need to connect a tail from the bonnet jets to the main feed from the reservoir. I saw some 7mm hose pipe connectors in BandQ garden centre, but I would need to buy 50 of them for 6 quid.

  Now I know that this wont affect any NCD, but when asking for insurance quotes in the future, do I have to declare this "claim"? I am not sure how internet insurers define claims, ie do they ask for "claims excluding windscreen damage". Do I just ignore this event? Thanks, clariman.

  When I operate the windscreen washer on my Honda civic the blades will wipe the screen 2 or 3 times before the washer fluid reaches the screen. If the screen is dirty this can only scratch the screen before it cleans it.

  I have a 1996 (N) Fiesta 1299cc and im having problems with my heating,  It only blowing cold air, I have read on some forums about the heating control valve and that could be the cause, Having read another artical it has said that if it was the HCV then the pipes going into the heater matrix behind the HCV would be cold, All pipes attached to the HCV are hot so i am assuming that the HCV is ok !

  Pulled 22 and a possible Bingo moment; that's blown. Manual says it's front and rear windscreen wiper system but 27 is specifically allocated to the rear wiper and 8 in the under bonnet fusebox is also wiper specific. One or two other bits of the handbook are poorly translated, maybe this is another example.

  Having read about the common water leaks, this thing has had: Fake lead rooftape put over the the roof joins (its a highroof) Front left drain gutter area welded and painted and siliconed inside (where its known to be bad) Windscreen and seal replaced. LH drive wiper arms holes blanked and sealed properly. Rubber seal and washer around wiper arm spindles.

  Would you pay extra to have built in pedestrian safety features in your next car ? It seems that the car manufacturers are fighting against it under the belief that buyers will refuse to pay. Guess what, I?ve been reading New Scientist again. A report states that when a car hits a pedestrian the bumper sweeps the legs from under, the body lands on the bonnet, and the head hits either the trailing edge of the bonnet or the windscreen.
