  • Missing car for 10 months... 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Any thoughts/advice appreciated. GF and I are looking at buying a Mercedes A-Class, we've seen a nice one at a (Lexus) main dealer, 7995. The car is a T reg with 43k miles on it, it's in pretty good condition for the mileage. It's being sold below the parkers' trade-in price for the model, this according to the dealer is because it is their year end and they want to get their stock levels down.
  • How Reliable Is Your Car? 14 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Just been reading the 2011 reliability survey on What Car and the top 10 is no surprise to anybody that its dominated by the Japanese and Koreans. With (in ascending order) Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, Mazda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Toyota and Honda making up the top ten. Honda recording only a 9% failure rate with apparently the 99-03 Accord being their worst performer but even that is in the top 10 for family cars. What is surprising is that Citroen, Fiat and Peugeot, not firms renowned for reliability all ranked above BMW, VW, Volvo and Audi with Mercedes Benz languishing in 27th place.

  • Removing paint from leather 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I am currently borrowing my ex's Lexus SportCross and shall valet it before return. Sometime during the last 3 years paint has appeared on the leather seat squab...not looked closely but gloss I assume. How best to remove without marking the leather?
  • Really low prices for very new cars 20 Aug 2007 (Forum)
They seem to be all over the country - except the phone numbers are all Liverpool disguised partly by the spacing - e.g. 01512 XXXXXX Examples Lexus 350H 7,000mls 2006 @ £11K Maserati 2004 @ £11K BMW Z4 @ £11K If you want to see for yourselves leave all search criteria bland but teh Keyword Search 01512 - you will also get a few gebuine looing adverts as well but the "bargains stick out" from the rest
  • Quick diesels with auto?? 24 Aug 2006 (Forum)
First post....I hope this is the right forum. I'm looking to change my dear old Lexus GS300 for something more suited to my pension! I like the idea of a biggish diesel engine in a smallish hatchback. However I've got used to an auto box and don't fancy a manual. I recently hired a Focus Estate with an auto box, and I was impressed with the combined auto/clutchless manual box.
  • Set up or stupidity? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
On Monday I visited a local retail park and parked next to a new Lexus 300. When getting out of the car I noticed a mobile phone in the pocket between the seats and thought 'there's an invitation for a local scroat'. I then look in the car further and there was a Nikon SLR digital camera sat on the passenger seat.
  • UK va USA Petrol 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My wife has a Lexus ES300 here in the US. (It's basically a Camry). From new, I have been amazed by how gutless and slow it is. Another post on this board got me thinking, is it to do with the petrol over here? They have three grades, 89, 91, and 93.
  • spinny wheel things 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Driving down to Portsmouth, joined the A3 at Tolworth. Next lane over was a yellow E36 Beemer M3, Lexus style rear lights, and weird spinners on the wheels. They were like a second set of spokes, and span independently of the wheels- such that they would take a few seconds to spin once under way, and would spin for a few seconds when stopped.
  • driving which wheels 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Have had my superb Lexus 200 for nearly two years, but now miss front wheel drive (for extra traction in dodgy weather) and hatchback/5th door (for convenience) with split rear seats set up for occasional awkward loads. HJ refers to "uncorrupted" steering (also with most Mercedes and BMW models) and, of course, the rear wheel drive set up gives a beautifully balanced car.
  • Car reliability survey 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Just heard a bit on the radio concerning the Auto Express survey of 25,000 cars. Didn\'t get all the details but Lexus came out top (surprise, surprise) with Jaguar 3rd ! Perhaps more interesting were the bunch propping up the foot of the table which were, I believe: Fiat (worst), Daewoo, Peugeot, Lotus, Kia, Land Rover, Vauxhall, Citroen, Renault, Suzuki.
  • Top Gear tonight. 12 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The only bit we didn't see was the engine no. being removed and the VIN plate changed. How back street can they get. 2. VBH...perhaps it didn't in the Lexus but it did in those jeans. 3. What is the title music? I remember having it on a rock compilation tape, over 25 years ago! 4. Golf economy test interesting. About 5mpg better than my old XUD Xantia when thrashed but 10MPG better then I've ever seen at the best.
  • "I wish I hadn't done that" (Jack Dee voiceover) 25 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Reading in a rival publication how the hapless owner of a Lexus had accessed a hidden menu in his car's interactive display, changed the model details "to see what happened" has now an unusable sat-nav and aircon/heater and his dealer is baffled on how to re-set it to get everything working ---- my mind went back to the day, as a callow youth, adjusting the valves on my 250 Superdream I overtightened the custom made cam cover bolt shearing it clean off in the process......Sunday afternoon in the sticks with no alternative transport.......

  • Need opinions for car rejection 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi I am at present discussing with my solicitor the if we could reject my new Lexus IS250.( 3 weeks old 250 miles) The law states that if the car is of unsatisfactory quality as judged by ' the average buyer' then it can be rejected. The question is if you had bought a car and within 10 minutes it developed rattles that required extensive repair..ie dash removal and now replacement Removal of front door trims and modification And lastly now taking the b posts apart to look for loose wires etc would you consider it reasonable to reject the car.
  • ever wider cars... 12 Sep 2004 (Forum)
There must be a niche market for £15-20000 type cars whose owners like locking them away at night, but so far I've only found the Lexus is200 as comparatively skinny. Am I being too bourgeois in wanting to garage a mid-range car, or not bourgeois enough in not having a double-garage?
  • US Car prices and observations 13 May 2004 (Forum)
Just been to the States for a week (my fi=rst visit there) and am now depressed at how little money you can pay for a top spec car! BMW X3 - $30,000, Lexus 300 $20,000, Honda Accords $17,000. These are ex tax, but do taxes add significantly to the price? It was also interesting to see 'normal' European cars with not so common engines - plenty of W8 Passats and quite a few new style Audi A8s with the larger engines.
  • USA 7 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Just got back from New York, I got in in the end after all the panic, and I noticed a distinct lack of BMW's. Loads of Merc S-Class and E-Class a fair few Lexus and of course loads of big American Lincoln Town car's but very few BMW's. I would have thought the X5 would have been a huge seller but I only saw one. The Americans obviously don't hate German products, Mercs everywhere, so why do they not like new BMW's.
  • Audi, Saab, Honda or Jag? 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My Father in law is due to get a new company car any time between now and Jan 04. He currently drives a Lexus IS200 which he is really pleased with, however he is due to start making long commutes between Shropshire and Bournemouth and needs a diesel for economy purposes. The new cars he has shortlisted are:- Audi A4 1.9 TDI Honda Accord Executive (when the diesel is launched) Saab 93 Jaguar X type He doesnt like the Saab very much, and at the moment, the Jag is in the lead, however apparently there are problems with the Jag X type diesel.
