  • VW Polo letting water in.... 6 May 2004 (Forum)
Now, at the front... twice now when I've first got in the car after some rain, I've driven around a corner and heard water running across from driver's side to passenger side, and then a sizzle, like it's hit the speaker or something. The first time coincided with a damp footwell on the passenger side, but since then, nothing.
  • Astra 1.4 H reg - fuel pipe cut 3 May 2004 (Forum)
Hello My Astra 1.4 (H reg)has had its fuel piping cut with a stanley knife and all the fuel from my petrol tank has disappeared. The piping runs under the car on the driver side next to the brake cable. It is obviously a robbery of petrol from my car and I was completely flabbergasterred when I spotted petrol pouring out from underneath the car.
  • HJ the Mondewoe has gone, run'g in car? 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The new car is a Nissan Primera 2.2 DCi S, not as basic as it first seems. I thought that as its FIRST service is at 12000 miles I would ask HJs advice on running in and oil changes. My own thoughts were change oil and filter at 2000 miles for a good mineral oil to the Nissan spec and then at 6000 change again to full synthetic for diesel engines with changes at 6000 after that.
  • Pug 306TD tacho sensor/wiring 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I suspect the problem is with the actual wiring from the tacho sensor plug/socket to the dashboard tacho unit. By the way the car runs fine, even with crankshaft sensor disconnected (appears to be solely used for tacho display, I have no EGR valve on my car). Out of interest, I measured the resistance of both crankshaft TDC sensors, original=150 ohms, new=250 ohms.
  • Best Car - Worst Car 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Similar threads have been run in the distant past, but now we have some new members, I thought it may be a good idea to kick this one off. Starting with me Best cars I ever owned: Renault 11 GTL 3 Door 1985MY. Reliable, solid, drove well, covered over 40,000 miles in it 5 years.
  • Audi 20V - oily exhaust 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I've just bought a (very cheap) Audi Coupe 20V, 1991, 128K on the clock and no history. It runs beautifully, except that it is blowing unburnt engine oil out of the exhaust. Oil is accumulating inside the tailpipes and dripping onto the ground at rest. Not a lot of oil, but enough to suggest there is a problem.
  • Fiat Panda 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
You probably wouldn't want to do many long journeys in it, but that's not what the car's designed to do. As a cheap, basic run-around, I think it knocks the oppo into a cocked hat. Now, when I'm just doing the commute into the office (about 12 miles), it's the Panda I take!
  • mondeo diesel cam solenoid actuator 19 Feb 2004 (Forum)
He starts it up and his description is that the car now shakes on tickover like a bus and there is little power. His response to the service manager is that it was running perfectly when he took it in and is now completely different so what have they done to it to cause this. No response other than to say the service manager has checked out the mechanics work and is fully satisfied.
  • Concealed indicators 29 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Indicators ought to be visibly amber even when they aren't lit. Or am I being pedantic ? I think the idea of having indicators lit at night as running lights as in the 'states is also counter-productive. Surely an indication will stand out far better among white and red lights than it can among red white and amber lights ? Apologies if this has already been covered, i've been away for a bit.
  • Pug 309D Geyser Impressions! 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The pressure released when undoing it was impressive, but I was prepared, so no nasty face wash with boiling rusty water! Also, with the filler cap off and the engine running, water & steam gushes up and out the tank on a cyclic basis like a mini geyser! Any ideas what would cause such a massive pressure to build up and open the pressure release of the filler cap? Many thanks in advance for any help.
  • Fiesta mk 3 poor starter 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
This is also intermittent, but extremely annoying as i need a reliable car to get to work!! Does anyone have any idea what i can do? I am in desperate need of help here as my budget doesnt run to another car! PS have read all the past messages on here relating to "the dreaded 1.1 fiesta!!)
  • Mondeo unless you know better. 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, Would appreciate advice here! Looking to buy and run a car for the next 3 years. £4,000 max budget, 20,000 miles a year, easy on motorways where it will spend 90% of its life is a priority as well as honest maintenance costs. It needs to be Mondeo or Vectra size and must have AC.
  • Mondeo TDCI 19 Oct 2003 (Forum)
There doesn't seem to be any posts on this site that give a solution to this problem and it sounds like ford still don't know what causes it. Apart from this problem, the car runs superbly with in excess of 45mpg combined driving. Steve
  • Fiat Single Point Injection 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Here's a little story Seicento 1.1, starts hunting when warmed up on idle, then after about 5 mins, injection firewalls the throttle all the way to the rev limiter. Repeatable. Nice in traffic. AA home start takes one looks and wants to run away - car ends up at franchised Fix It Again Tony dealer. Firstly I am told that the whole throttle body (potentiometer, stepper motor, injector, regulator) need replacing. But when I query the actual fault, the stepper motor is indicated.
  • Renault 19 engine termperature 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
A few minutes later the temp was 82°C and the top hose and rad were starting to get warm. At 86°C, the rad and top hose were definitely hot. Continued running the car until the fan came on - temp in the tank 93°C at this point. So, does this sound OK? What do you guys think of these temps, do they sound normal? thanks, brian

  • Micra Niggles 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I parked it between two Smarts at work the other day and in a standard parking space it was a bit of a squeeze! Anything you put in the front footwell ends up in the back because there's a clear run under the passenger seat. I've even taken to hanging my bag on the take-away hook that they've thoughtfully supplied, but to be honest it looks a bit silly! The windows knock when they're open. Very annoying!
  • Airbag fault. Who is responsible? 8 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My brother had another car run into the back of his car in July, his car being an ?X? reg Nissan Primera. There was no damage to the other party?s car although there was damage to the boot, bumper and under floor on the Primera.
  • Wheel Balancing 26 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I've started wondering whether my kind of car is particularly sensitive to wheel balancing and maybe I'm being unrealistic to expect that my wheels can run without any vibration at all at all speeds. The question is this: does anyone know of a specialist who I can be confident can do this work for me a) the first time and b) without carelessly damaging my wheels.
  • Citroen & the dodgy VAT Off offer! 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I was informed that this would not be possible as Citroen would be unable to deliver such a vehicle before the 30th September - ie they could not honour the VAT free offer which supposedly runs to 30th September even if I was willing to place a deposit on the 18th of August! I ran JamJar who confirmed Citroen's delivery problem - Jamjars line on this was that the delivery period was 4 to 6 weeks - meaning that I could 'take a chance' on paying a deposit - if delivery was prompt I 'could' buy the vehicle VAT free - if however delivery and hence registration of the vehicle fell after 30th Sept I would have to pay the larger amount!
