  • Windscreen damage - who to claim? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
So - my tale of woe continues While awaiting my car to have the new engine (see my 2 recent posts) put in the hire car I have to use whilst I await it to be done sustained an 'almighty' windscreen chip. Now being a driver for nearly 20 years and NEVER having sustained any chip the 'gods' decide they need more sport!
  • Water in footwell of Fiat Panda 2 Oct 2010 (Ask HJ)
My Fiat Panda's ('55 plate) passenger's footwell fills with water only after heavy rain. I think the water must be coming in from underneath the car when...
  • Water is leaking through a windscreen replacement - is the dealer liable for selling me a faulty car? 13 Apr 2018 (Ask HJ)
I have a 2012 Vauxhall Insignia. I noticed dampness in the drivers footwell so I took it to a Vauxhall dealership under warranty. After a long investigation,...
  • Quick clear windscreens......... 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Having read the previous thread on 'night before' de icers, and the various methods to de ice the car widscreen in the morning why is the quick clear windscreen as fitted to Ford vehicles not available on other makes of car? They appear on Fords, Jaguar and I presume other marques that have been or are still in Ford ownership.
  • More Golf cabin leaks 20 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Still haven't a clue what a plenum chamber is (sounds like a full Houses of Parliament to me), but I'm guessing it's the area immediately in front of the windscreen where rainwater runoff has to collect. Older cars I have owned had obvious rubber hoses coming off the floor of this compartment - easy matter to extract any leaves, etc. that blocked them.
  • Do I need an ADAS calibration following a windscreen replacement? 31 Mar 2020 (Ask HJ)
My windscreen will need replacing as soon as this coronavirus crisis subsides and, looking at one of the major company's sites, it suggested having an...
  • Snow in US, windscreen wipers lifted?? 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've just been looking at photos of the snowstorm in the US, on the BBC web site and all of the parked cars have their windscreen wipers lifted, as you would if you were cleaning the screen. What's that for? It'll stop them freezing to the screen but by the time you've cleared the snow off the heater would have sorted that out.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.4 Windscreen Wiper Sreenwasher Not Working 10 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I filled the car up with with a mix of water and fluid but there is still nothing being dispensed through to the windscreen. Used a pin to see if there was a blockage but still not working. I cant fnd where the fuse would be as someone said it may be that or a kink in the coil but cant find it either.
  • What is the best windscreen cleaner? 1 Oct 2019 (Ask HJ)
What is the best windscreen cleaner?
  • Windscreen Safety 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
On my local radio station, one of the national windscreen firms is running an ad that includes the statement "if you have a cracked windscreen, in some accidents, your airbags may not work properly". I just about understand the logic that a cracked windscreen won't provide the same level of strength in itself in an accident but how does it affect the airbag?
  • Nissan Note - Athermic (UV filtered) windscreens 11 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying a speed camera detector but they will not work through an Athermic windscreen. Does the Note have such a windscreen?
  • uv windscreens 15 Jan 2004 (Forum)

  • DIY windscreen chip repair 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Anyone tried the DIY kits for windscreen chips from Halfords? Got a big chip and my traders policy doesn't cover windscreens or repairs.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.8 Winscreen washer not working 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The windscreen washers on my Vectra have stopped working. The tailgate washer still works fine, but when I turn on the front washer I hear the pump going but nothing comes out. I suspect a blockage somewhere, but I have no idea how to go about finding it or removing it if blocked.
  • Rear wiper blade replacement 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have just been through the process of replacing the rear wiper blade on a 2000 Focus I did not get a Ford replacement but a Bosch. It fitted OK but would only track the windscreen for half of its length for the whole of the arc of its range. It is fine for front screens ( also fitted it to a Yaris) but probably not designed for rear screens. I have now fitted a Champion and it works correctly.
  • Cling film the car? 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Apart from possibly looking stupid, could I put some cling film on the front of bonnet and bumpers and just peel off when I arrive and take all the dead things with it? How does cling film react to heated metal? Would it melt to it, never to come off again? Or should I get a life?
  • ADAC Accessories crash test! 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The coathanger stayed in place, though could have caused injury to head and face of rear seat passenger (predicable, that one). (Some years ago, they crash tested an estate 'on a summer holiday journey' - the front passenger with legs stretched out on the dashboard and a surfbourd lying on top of the luggage in the rear. The passenger airbag folded the dummy like a penknife (probaly fatally in real life) and the surf board surfed its way through the car and windscreen.
  • Alfa Romeo GT Coupe - Nearly New Car Requires Welds to Bulkhead 22 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Received delivery of a new car on a 3 year lease in November 2008. Since day one it had a creaking noise from the front near the windscreen. I mentioned this when it when for other warranty and the car has been taken to a body shop for welding to the bulk head?
  • VW Dealer Getting It Right 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Went to collect the car and instead of being handed the keys and left to wander round trying to find the car deleted - no naming / shaming please - DD . I was asked to take a seat and a driver will bring it round to the front door.
