  • Fuel pump auto delivery & cut off 13 Apr 2004 (Forum)
(No doubt DD will prove me wrong) Considering the litigious nature of some countries and safety nanny paranoid state of others, (USA, Scandinavia spring to mind) why is it that in these places you can set fuel pumps to auto fill with the nozzle trigger clip "thingumajig" and we cannot do this in UK? Yet the other day using an HGV pump in UK realised that this pump had the necessary "thingumajig" device so the pump could be set and left running while I wandered around cleaning lights etc until the fuel flow shut off automatically.
  • Peugeot HDi low pressure fuel pump 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Arrowed, in red, is the pump itself contained within a plastic swirl pot; arrowed in black is the fuel gauge float arm, simple in operation. Just though you guys would like to see, it's not something you often see. Did somebody ask how a fuel gauge works back along? Well, there you have it. Also, I have included two pics of the net result of a low speed cambelt failure on a Peugeot 205 Diesel - merely a broken can bearing.
  • SAXO Help Me Fuel Cons 19 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi there, I bought a SAXO 1.4i SX '96 'P' Reg about a month ago. The fuel consumption was fine driving it back to London on the M1 and also surprisingly good going to and from work in traffic for the first two weeks. However, recently I'm getting about 200 miles out of a full tank, this is compared to about 500 miles previously.
  • Corsa Acceleration Problem 9 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I usually have to hold the throttle down and just wait for the power to return! I am at a loss to figure out why this happens - it is as if the fuel injector is being starved of fuel for a moment and then suddenly the fuel arrives. Or perhaps starved of air for a moment? The ignition is fine - I replaced the plugs today. Can anyone help out?
  • Mis-fueling 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)

  • Price of fuel 17 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Diesel at the Shell filling station in Attleborough costs 73.9p per litre. The Shell FS in Bury St Edmunds (27 miles away) sells it at 78.9p. Profiteering...
  • Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 2006 TDCI - over fueling? 8 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Usually get white smoke upon starting.  And again, on acceleration i get the over-fueling.  Over fueling isnt consistent though.   Normally when the engine is warm, it drives really well.   I have spent money on service and repairs, and would welcome any advice on the over fueling and starting issues.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Air/Fuel Ration Sensor faulty, what can it lead to 18 Feb 2015 (Forum)
They asked me to keep the engine running and move it to neutral gear. During the journey to garage which took 45 mins or so, I could feel some jerks as fuel was still going inside the engine (engine being running). I wanted to ask as their was incorrect fuel mixture going into the vehicle during this time and when i earlier drove it, can it cause unburnt fuel to be left inside and would it have caused further damage like carbon deposits, damage to catalytic converter (near exhaust) etc which might not be visible now but can affect engine performance and failures at a later date.
  • Mazda 2 - Mazda 2 1.4 Diesel - Cutting out when cold 8 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I have an issue where I start the car first thing in the morning and it runs for about 2 seconds.  It then cuts out and will not start.  If I prime the fuel using the hand primer in the engine bay I can see air bubbles moving in the clear fuel line.  It will then start and run fine. I think my mazda has had some aftermarket fuel lines added including the hand primer which I do not think is standard (I did read online a lot were replaced under warranty).
  • Renault scenic dynamique 2004 - No fuel getting to the engine? 14 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Do you guys think it could be the fuel pump relay and if so where will I find it? Not very mechanically minded so easy instructions would be best! Ta

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 HDi P0230 Not starting. Injectors not firin 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys, Long story so here goes.... Bought a 306 HDi that had petrol put into it. The car was drained of the fuel and diesel refilled. Car ran but was a bit lumpy. THe car was traded in at a local garage and a lad bought it, 'drove' it home, parked it up. A friend bought it and decided to change the fuel filter and empty the fuel lines as he said he could smell petrol still.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 93-00 - TD poor mpg - not rise in fuel prices! 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm doing exactly the same journey every day, style of driving is the same, so what's the problem? I'm thinking it's either a dodgy fuel sender beause when I park up at night the gauge reads 1/4 tank say, and when I switch the ignition on in the morning it drops about 2-3 mm and doesn't rise up at all, or maybe a dodgy temp sensor? There are no leaks anywhere in the fuel system.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0tdci Won't start; flashing glow plug light 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Decided to change fuel filter thinking this was the cause. Got it going again, drove around the estate a few times but stalled again. Would'nt start so left overnight. Next morning would'nt start, battery getting low, called out AA who checked fuel to rail, ok good pressure and a slight pulse to glo plug electronic leads.
  • Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 1989 1.9 possible fuel filter problem 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Took it back to the garage; they changed the copper rings near the filter but it made no difference & told me I need a new fuel pump. Recently my radio will cut out - often when I'm going round a bend. I just wanted to ask for some opinions on whether it does seem like I need a new fuel pump before I start hunting for old Peugeot spare parts (new one £60!)
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.8 - Fuel leak & more 13 May 2008 (Forum)
I have a fuel leak coming from under the filler pipe leading to the fuel tank. Hard to see exactly where from but it looks like it's coming from some way up the pipe leading to the filler cap. It's not gushing (yet!)
  • VW TDI misfire solved! 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
t=24091 ) At first the suspect problem was the connector for the MAF unit, as the engine had cut to default mode once or twice and been restored to normal by fiddling with the connector. BUT, seeing bubbles in the fuel line made me think the misfiring had another cause, air in the fuel I could find no fue leaks and so was baffled. Then I thought "airlock in fuel tank? - no, surely it couldn't be that!" I've heard of blocked fuel tank vents bringing vehicles to a stop, but it seemed too simple.
  • Seat Leon Cupra - fuel? 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I recently bought a Leon Cupra 20VT. I have been running it on super unleaded. Is this necessary or would 'standard' unleaded suffice? Thanks
  • Fair Fuel UK/Panorama etc 27 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Those in the UK can watch it here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b016bycy/Panorama_The_Great_Fuel_Robbery/ Its obvious to me that the easiest way to destroy these criminals income and operations is to make fuel reasonably priced in the first place, then you wipe out their marketplace. We're now at a point where its not just 'fuel thieves' and low level criminals who are happy to turn a blind eye to where its come from, its now the normal man/woman in the street looking to get to work and back.
  • n/a - E85 ethanol versus neat petrol test. 21 Sep 2021 (Forum)
E85 is no longer widely available in the UK. As this test was carried out in the USA in 2009 the fuel price comparison is almost certainly not valid, but the consumption and environmental advantage conclusions stand. Two 667 mile round trips San Diego >Las Vegas and return. The same flex-fuel vehicle used for both tests.
