Toyota Hiace van carrying rear passenger 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I do not want to fall foul of the law and need documentary evidence that it is legal in the UK to carry a passenger in the rear of the van in this manner? And what about France please? Please can the team advise? Many thanks in advance. -
Last generation Honda Prelude headlights 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone know if the headlights on the last generation (1996-01) Prelude can be adjusted for French pattern left dipping, or do they have to be replaced? This isn't for a holiday in France, I want to import one, so 'beam benders' may not be the answer. I still find it necessary to bring cars over here from the UK because I'm appalled by the couldn't care less attitude of French dealers! -
Audi A4 TDi 90 - Yet Another New Gearbox 20 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me the warranty period on a new gearbox and if it is still in warranty he will have any issues by virtue of the fact that the work was done at an Audi dealer in France? He does tow a caravan but this does seem unbelievably bad luck. He is going to buy Japanese next time. -
Best Driveability in Europe? 12 May 2005 (Forum)
About to book a car rental in Europe for less than a week. Since it is less than a week, have enough time only for either France/Netherlands/Germany or whereabouts, maybe Switzerland on the way. Thing is Im not sure which place would qualify as the best with regard to factors like the roads/scenery/less speed cameras(Not that I intend to speed like a lunatic). -

Pedestrian in Paris 2 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Pedestrian priority at crossings without lights was largely ignored by motorists. Motorbikes use the pavements and the Police turn the other way. Are there any Backroomers from France who would like to comment? -
Strange happenings with an Omega 27 Jun 2003 (Forum)
When the car does start (whether after problems or not) it revs on its own and along with this comes a kind of growl, quite loud, which sounds like exhaust baffle or induction roar. Again, any ideas? Any help would be appreciated, as this car has got to do a 600 mile trip to France in a month, and we don't know where to start!! -
skoda base kit car? 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi everybody, We moved to France last summer, and have re-registered my wife's Skoda Favorit 1.3 lxie - because it is an amazing car with the endearing habit of passing its MOT every year without costing us any money. In time, she would like a LHD, and it seems a shame to scrap it, as it has less than 60,000 miles on the clock, and as I said, is very reliable. -

But my insurers are saying im not covered. I am 18, so that meets the minimum age requirements of france etc driving licence wise so i now only require the insurance right? According to my friend who knows about insurance, there should be automatic minimum EU cover as this is provided by law on all policies unless otherwise stated? -

Blatant advertising 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Having just read the 'Bond car' thread I am reminded of a film I saw on telly just before Xmas called 'Rhonin' (I think thats the right spelling). Set in France, it was basically just a series of good car chases, however I noticed that just about every make of French and German car appeared at some point, Citroen XM, ZX, Xantia, Peugeot 205, 306, 405, 605, Renault Clio, Laguna along with BMW's, Audi's and VW, all vehicles getting close up shots of their noses and grills complete with manufacturers badges. -

Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 157k - Sod's Law Strikes Again 23 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Having recently posted a 'positive' story about my car passing the MOT, reasonable cost for brakes, etc., and how I was looking forward to a trip to France, it had to happen, didn't it? Trip to France went well, 1100+ miles of mixed motoring @50mpg (some loaded down with Chateau Plonk) until ... Monday night, 50 miles from home, at western end of M4, had to stop because of serious overheating (red warning lights and gauge at max). -
Crosland Filters to Close 15 May 2014 (Forum)
The company, which makes 11 million filters a year for vehicle engines, is now Italian-owned. Production will be transferred to plants in South Wales, France and Italy. Mr Kelly described the closure as "a tragedy". He said there were a number of pressures on the industry which led to the decision. Engines and filters were made so precisely that they lasted for between 15,000 miles and 20,000 miles, instead of the historic 4,000 to 5,000 miles.
