Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 03 1.2 Misfiring 24 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The plugs and leads/coil pack have been replaced together with air filter etc. There are no fault codes on the ECU and the tdc sensor has been checked. Removing the Lambda sensor doesn't make any difference so it's probably not that. The compression is good on all cylinders and there doesn't appear to be any induction system leaks. -

Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 00 2.0 Upgrading an HDi from 90bhp to a 110 15 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have found several possibilities but they are only 90bhp and I need the extra power for towing etc. What are the main differences between the 90 and 110, eg intercooler & ecu remapping and what are the possibilities of a competent diy upgrade. I would consider using my 110hdi as a doner vehicle. Also, what year did peugeot introduce the FAP as I want a pre Fap model! -
Subaru Forester (1997 - 2002) - 00 2.0T- Removal of alternator S fuse with ign on. 24 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Car seems to be running ok and no CEL's but for my future general knowledge is there a capacitator or similar in the alternator which could cause a surge of current when removing/replacing the said fuse which could damage the ecu or other components particularly if the ignition is on? Tks -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 2004 1.6 TDCi Rear brake pad replacement 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I need to change the rear brake pads on my bro-in-law's C-Max but he was advised that ABS/ECU needs to be 'told' that new pads have been fitted. Have worked on most systems but I don't have data for the C-Max especially as it has electric handbrake. I thought that systems where a computer has to be plugged in just to change pads was a rumour - but now I'm not so sure. -
rover 100 fob 16 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The car is completely legit ,but the new owner wants a second fob in case the first one gets lost. The alarm/immobilser system is the Lucas 5AS ECU system, NOT the Valeo infra red one, the fob is the two-button type and the car is on a "P" plate. I'd appreciate any help/advice you can give. Thanks in advance Andy -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 99 DTI fuelling problem 22 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, Just bought a stolen recovered one of the above. Ignition was knackered so it has been replaced and chipped back to the ECU. Problem is i have no fuel being lifted from the tank. I also have no fault codes so i assume all parts are ok including the fuel pump. The vehicle has been sitting for 6 months....... So any ideas? -
VW Bora 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Additionally sometimes when pulling away it feels a little spluttery / hesitant. I guess this could be something simple like a sensor or something horrid like an ECU. Does anyone have an opinion on the price? Is it cheap but am i going to sopend as much fixing it as buying one without the "problems". Having said that it feels solid enough generally. Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received. -
New Ford Fiesta TCDI starting problems 16 May 2005 (Forum)
I have a query related to the new Fiesta TCDI , it has a wierd starting problem , it always starts from cold , however with the car hot , if it is parked for over 15 min it will not start , the engine just cranks for about 20 secs ( when the ECU times you out ), it will start up to the 15 min but gets less likely the nearer you get to 15 min. However , if you then leave it about 30 min more it will start . There are no indicator light problems and the car does not log a fault code . -
Golf IV/Rear Wipers/Screenwash 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
FYI: I've just suffered the problem in HJ's Car By Car Breakdown' for Golf IV's; the rear window wash wipe has leaked and caused the ecu to believe that the tailgate is open, thus causing the alarm to go off (most inconveniently at 4am!) VW dealer has commented that VW will not meet warranty claims if VAG screen cleaner not used, so be warned (I've had the car for 60k miles/18months (now 86k)and have used Halfords double concentrated throughout before this has occured). -
I want a simpler car 3 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My nightmare with the seemingly incurable ECU of my auto A6 continues. When I get it back, it's going. I took a risk with a "cheap" car that had 95k on it when I bought it, but that's life It'll be my last auto, but what car has the least amount of electronic engine management to go wrong, but is still a "modern" car? -
K11 Micra -- Handbrake warning light 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
This Micra does not have sophisticates "low brake level" indicators as far as I know. * Turning off and restarting often cures the problem -- an ECU issue? Any ideas on this? Thanks Bruce -
Mondeo Air Con 1 Jul 2002 (Forum)
The green light on the vent knob comes on when you push it in but when the guy was reading the fault file on his ECU reading unit it showed that the air con wasn't actually coming on. Does anyone know of a good air con place in West Yorkshire or Manchester who will not do the sucking of teeth, shaking of head routine and say it needs a new one. -
Rover 214si 7 Apr 2002 (Forum)
It goes from 1000revs up to 1500 then drops back to under a 1000 then up again and so on. Have had the engine set up on a tuner, this showed no problems. The ecu has been checked and is OK. Cylinder head gasket has been replaced. I'm told it has a new catalytic converter. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks -
Electrical problem 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Battery connections have been checked. Cannot identify any obvious culprit wher the sound seems to come from (near ECU?) Any ideas anyone ? -
Pre-registered Imports 19 Feb 2001 (Forum)
With insurance and an additional warranty the Trade-Sales price would be between £7199 and £7299. The salesman said that the ECUs of imports needed to be translated by the diagnostics machine, adding delays and extra costs to the servicing. The salesman also said that the value of imports would be thousands less than a UK-sourced Ka. -
Trouble with used car bought from dealer - help! 11 May 2018 (Forum)
This continued until I phoned the specialist and was told they couldn’t find out what was wrong with it either, but suspected the ECU, and that the dealer had taken the car to Sytner BMW. I phoned the dealer again on Wednesday 2nd who said the car was with Sytner, that they had found a fault with the ECU and were waiting on the part from Germany, and that he had no idea when this would arrive but would let me know when it was done. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 01 2.0 HDi Fault code P0230 Limp Mode 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
You think PSA could manage more than 77K without engine trouble. A normal diesel could ! At least design an ECU diagnosis system that can tell you the exact problem, or support DIY diagnosis without all this dealer analyser rubbish. Rant over. I have to get the bus to the supermarket. Thanks to all the people who have put useful postings on this site. -
Golf VR6 - Water Temperature 6 Dec 2003 (Forum)
ABS has also started playing up even after fitting new sensor to rear offside wheel. Any thoughts? A friend in the computer industry suggested that the ECU could have been affected by incorrect isolation of the alarm – power surge. ECU websites suggest inadequate earthing at key moments after the clutch and starter motor changes could be the cause.
