Nationwide AC - Servicing 29 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have looked at there website and looked over what they do for a 'major service' and for the price of £260 (with AA discount) they will do the following - Oil and Filter change Plugs Fuel filter air filter Replace brake fluid and bleed system Drain cooling and replace coolant Plus all the checks. My car is a 98 Mercedes c240 sport. Do you think thats a good price? Would a indy do a major service for that or a cheaper price? (i haven't bothered ringing MB as i am sure the price will be very expensive) -

Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.4 burning smell from heater vents 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I have a 2004 1.4 petrol fiesta that has recently been producing a burning smell from the heater vents. When I returned home I checked coolant levels and oil etc and everything absolutely fine. Also, the temperature gauge absolutely fine. Tried turning the heater up and set to maximum hot setting and the burning smell was very pronounced. -
Engine development testing - does it exist ? 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Are engines tested to destruction and if so is it to find weak points in an engine ? Are they tested without coolant / oil to see what breaks ? How do the car makers perform accelerated life testing (i.e put 1 million miles on an engine) ? Like I have previously said, this is a long shot but I have always wondered what testing was carried out. -
Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 00 1.9tdi Head gasket 3 Dec 2008 (Forum)
hi. a while a go the coolant warning light came on so i stopped to check the level and fill it up,but when i opened the cap it was thick with oil. i have since had the head gasket replaced and the head has been skimmed, all was fine for about 100 miles but then oil appeared in the header tank, since this has happened i have isolated the oil cooler to see if this stops the oil getting into the water, but it has since returned and have no clue as what the problem is........ -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 Faulty Engine Temperature Gauge 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
As we were waiting for pick up we had a look in the engine there seemed to be nothing unusual with coolant or fan..... Any ideas would be great. Thanks -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1999 1.0 Radiator fan not cutting in 4 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The cooling is working OK in normal use, but when the coolant temperature rises into the read on teh gauge, e.g. when stuck in traffic, the radiator fan does not come on. I have just brought the car. The previous owner obviously had an issue as the radiator thermostat plug was missing. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2001 1.6 cooling fan from cold 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
when i start my 51 reg 307 after 5-10 seconds the temp gauge goes to red hot & display reads engine coolant temp too high & stop, fan runs constantly, checked wires for brakes, new senders, relays, its been on computer & comes up with error code p118 or p180 cant remember which but it says cooling fault, contact gap too big. totally baffled any help would be apprietiated -
Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 02 1.9TD - Cooling 24 May 2008 (Forum)
I would have expected the cooling fans to come on but they don't. The fuse is ok. Where are the coolant temp sensor and the fan switch and how can I test them. I do not think that I have an engine problem as the gauge sinks back to normal too soon. Please can anyone help? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.25 Where does the temp gauge get its reading? 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Where does the temp gauge on the dash get it's reading from? I thought it was the coolant temp sensor under the coil pack. but i unplugged that and drove the car, but the gauge on the dash returned to where it was before i stopped the car to unpulg the sensor. For years, mine was, under normal conditions, in the centre. -
Nissan Serena (1993 - 2000) - '99 2 litre petrol; service info 18 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Has the engine on this model a belt driven cam and if so how often should it be changed? Need I use Nissan coolant for a change or will the universal type stuff do? The vehicle has done 55k and although the service book is stamped up it is not clear what other jobs have been done. The main dealer who stamped the book is no longer trading so I can't ask them. -
2001 Primera ABS 27 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have a 2001 old shape Primera which I had a major service on in Oct (coolant, brake fluid etc) at 67000m. Since then progressivley (it was a couple of weeks before I really noticed) I have had the ABS physically coming on all of the time when I have to brake, and, I can hear the pump working whilst I am driving and not braking - my rear pads are low but not at the metal / metal stage. -
VW V6 AAA engine 5 Dec 2006 (Forum)
just blown the coolant hose; cylinder head > throttle valve > heater exchange. replacement £50.00 - i didn't realise rubber was such a precious commodity?? at the heater exchange end a 'T' piece connects 3 x hoses. the hoses are 19mm diameter. the 'T' piece is 19mm but reduces to 5mm at the end. -
Condensation cause? 5 Dec 2006 (Forum)
There is no sign of water ingress in the car, the carpets are dry as is the boot, no damp smells, the climate / heating etc works fine, no coolant loss etc. I wonder if the aircon evap drain could be blocked, I guess this could cause such symtoms. Otherwise perhaps the polen filter is due a change, it was done about 18,000 miles ago. 2002 Mondeo TDCi Ghia X. -
Engine oil burning comeback 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I bought an Alfa147 1.6 Lusso from a 'reputable' car supermarket two months ago and in that time, over 1,000 miles, it has used 3 to 4 litres of oil. The garage could find no leak and no signs in the coolant, meaning its being burned through the engine. It is 3 years old and has done 65,000 but I think this is unreasonable and not general wear and tear. I am going back to the supermarket trying to get them to pay for repairs (maybe a new engine is required!). -
Mondeo water leak 22 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've got an '02 1.8 mondeo and it's leaking on my drive. I know where the coolant/water is coming from but I don't know why. looking from underneath the car, above the exhaust mounts at the front of the CAT are the two pipes taking the water to and from the interior of the car, and just below these two pipes is another pipe that doesn't go anywhere. -
BMW 523 - oil in cooling water 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
There is also a clattering noise on start-up which disappears after a few seconds. Now I discover that on unscrewing the coolant filler cap OIL comes out. My immediate thought is the cylinder head gasket, are there any other likely causes? If this is the problem, am I better off going to a BMW dealer, a non-franchised BMW specialist or an engine rebuilder, and does anyone have any recommendations in the Cambridge/Huntingon area? -
Incontinent Rover 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have a Rover 218SLDT 1995, 136,000 trouble-free miles, until now. Two questions: The metal pipes to the coolant expansion tank are beginning to rust and metal replacements are a ridiculous price of £56!! Any reason why the whole run shouldn't be rubber compound, as some stretches already are, so long as I don't trap it, let it catch etc? -
polo gearbox leak 9 May 2003 (Forum)
I noticed a small pool of liquid under the car on Monday, after some pretty heavy mileage down to Cornwall for the Bank Holiday. I checked engine oil, brake fluid and coolant which were all OK, so I assumed it must be the gearbox oil (though there was no obvious problem with the gearbox). It has been dripping all week and I took it into a local garage who tell me it was leaking at the gasket and seals and has to go off to be re-sealed (£320). -
Cooling System Fault 12 Sep 2002 (Forum)
the water temperature then goes back to normal temperature (90) straight away and i have heat as normal. i had froth in my expansion tank, but this seems to have stopped since i replaced the cap. I have replaced the thermostat and there are no coolant leaks. somebody suggested it might be a blockage to the heater matrix, does anybody have any ideas? I'm grateful for any ideas.
