Fuel Benefit - It's not always a Benefit 14 Jul 2016 (Forum)
As we do alot of work with companies supplying company cars to employees, the question of Fuel Benefit comes up alot. Often it is perceived as preferable for a company to supply the employee with a fully expenced car (i.e. all personal mileage paid for by the company too). Many are surprised to learn that unless the driver is doing (as a general rule of thumb) over 10,000 personal miles per annum (often it needs to be more), the employee is paying over the odds for their fuel by between 2x and 3x the pence per litre cost. -
Ford Focus MK2 2.0 TDCI 2010 Reg - Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI high pressure fuel pump change 3 Jul 2016 (Forum)
It sometimes comes on and off driving at low speeds. There is no loss of power. Main dealer plugged it in and diagnosed erratic fuel pressures. Says the fuel pump needs to be changed at a cost of £1800. I was wondering if it's worth getting a refurbished or second hand pump and installing it myself. How difficult is this job and any advice would be appreciated. -
2013 BMW 5 Series Touring SE 520d - Wheel alignment and fuel consumption 5 May 2016 (Forum)
I've just had a full new set of tyres fitted to my 2013 BMW 5 Series Touring at 29,000 miles, the garage also did a wheel alignment check, and some adjustment was made to the toe on all 4 wheels. My fuel consumption has now increased from around 53-54 mpg to consistently under 50. The new tyres fitted were exactly the same as the originals (Pirelli Cinturato P7s). The garage has rechecked the alignment and says everything is okay, but the fuel consumption has not improved. -
- Supermarket Fuel Telegraph Cars Section Today 2 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Writing in todays motoring section Alex Robbins says there is no empirical evidence to show that Supermarket fuel is inferior. But a local company that manufactures Spectroscopy equipment have told me that when used to check fuels, the supermarket diesel was found to have less additives. And therefore inferior. -
2001 VW Golf 1.4 - Does my fuel filter need changing? 21 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I know it's impossible to tell the condition from the inside, but from the state of it on the outside would you say this fuel filter hasn't been changed in a LONG time? Pic here... http://s17.postimg.org/ym71e2cf3/fuelfilter.jpg I've turned my attention to the fuel filter from my own research on Google. -

Chrysler Voyager (2001 - 2004) - 02 3.3 V6 Grand Voyager that won't start 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The detail is that there's plenty of petrol but the gauge is reading zero, the engine turns over and when fuel is squirted into the air intake it starts but then immediatly stops, the plugs are dry. Is it possible with modern engines that if the sender unit fails, it sends a signal to the fuel pump not to pump fuel 'cos it thinks that there isn't any and consequently no fuel, even when there is stuff in the tank isn't pumped hence the dry plugs. -

KIA Sportage - Water in Fuel Filter Light occaisonally comes on 17 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I drive a 2007 2.0 diesel Sportage. 5000 miles / 4 months ago the water in fuel filter light started coming on occaisionally. I took it to the dealer who drained the fuel filter (he said he could tell whether there was water in it or not). This didn't make any difference to the regularity in which the light comes on. -
Poor fuel consumption - 1.3 Polo 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
actually , i am a granny but my much loved 20 year old vw polo coupe 1300 is giving me very very low mpg- recent mot (feb) and full service and in last month- recent new fuel pump, second hand distibutor, second hand carb, new coil, new air and fuel filter- some one said that a test and possible adjustment to the carb may solve the problem- no obvious leaks anywhere- am worried about throwing away more money - but i do love this motor; is this carb test worthwhile? -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - (99-04) 2.0 HDi 110 - fuel filter renewal 11 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I went to change the fuel filter on my 406 hdi 2.0 110 and in the haynes book it says that there is a drain screw on the front of the filter housing but when I looked at mine it isn't there? There is a hole with a female thread there but no screw inside it? -
Saab 9-3 2.2 tid - fuel / engine problem 9 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I am experiencing problems with the above, all of a sudden the car has developed a fault (No fault lights are on the dashboard) when traveling along the car looses power then returns to normal, Under acceleration same problem, pulling off same problem, it lasts for seconds and is a continual problem, Feels like a fuel problem, i do have thought might be a sensor problem as it feels like it cuts the engine and instantly return to normal as when it is fuel starvation the process is usally longer than seconds, In netural the car revs upto 3000 rpm and then sounds like its miss firing but then if you try it againn it will be normal and go round to red line so very hit & miss -
Does running your tank on empty cause problems ? 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
As a teenager my tank was always run on dregs, fuel going in £5 (or less) at a time. These days I run from full to dregs to spare the pain of filling up. In 28 years of driving in 25 different cars I've never had a problem with dirt in fuel so is it time to consign this piece of "wisdom" to the bin ? -
'73 MG BGT - diagnose fuel gauge probs 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi folks Have a wonderful 1973 MGBGT - the fuel gauge has recently started dropping to "E" despite the tank being either full or partially empty. Since the dash & guage is easy to get at, I though I'd start there - assuming the fuel gauge is a simple volt meter, would anyone happen to know what voltage range the guage works off ? -
Top fuel dragsters- how fast? 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Anyone know how fast the top fuels can go if given a long enough straight, or are they designed with such single-minded purpose that they just fall apart if pushed past the 1/4 mile distance? Has anyone tried it? John -
Diesel Fuel Economy & Acetone 11 Jan 2007 (Forum)
(See previous topics) In September Roly93 mentioned adding 1ml of Acetone for each litre of diesel in a previous discussion thread. Sounds like a good, cheap fuel-saving tip! Please let me know more re Acetone....(would the engine be at any risk?) (I must add that I acheive >53mpg on any trips over 10 miles [after which my old cruiser is well warmed up] and 49mpg around town on rarer short trips so I'm not overly worried about fuel economy!) -
Peugeot 306 fuel problems 1 Jul 2006 (Forum)
On starting the car in a morning,it just turns over and over and over without fireing up. Priming the fuel system using the priming bulb and then starting the car, it fires up first attempt. If i leave the car for a couple of hours and try to start it, it turns over a few times then starts up. Leave it for any longer and i need to prime the fuel system again. -
have I damaged my fuel pump? 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)

Fast A2B car with good fuel range.Ideas? 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I travel to the Welsh borders a lot and fancy the idea of a Focus RS, Subaru Impreza, Lancer Evo type car. However, I am put off by reports that these type of cars have a limited fuel range. My round trip is 320 miles approx and having to fill up more than normal is a pain. Ideally, I would like to complete the journey without eaking out the remaining fuel after a good blast! -
Mercedes 230 E ( W123 ) fuel pump relay 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I have had a problem with my Mercedes today, the first ever, where it would not start, the fuel pump ( electric ) was not running, so I took a live feed from the battery to the pump, and it started without a problem, and continued to run fine and restarted, even after I removed the improvised feed.
