  • Samll Auto RunAround 22 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I need to get a small runaround (fiesta size) automatic car for my wife. Needs to be reliable (new baby), and I've only got £1000ish budget. I've discovered from this site that Fiesta and Clio Auto's are not reliable. Is there anything that is left out there!!!!
  • Fiat Punto 'Speedgear' 17 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I've seen a number of classified ads (on ebay) for these which describe them as 7 speed tiptronic manuals that can be used as automatics. I've not heard of any other car, auto or manual, with 7 speeds (unless you include reverse).

One for all the Citroen Xantia enthusiasts in the back room. What do you make of a diesel automatic (non turbo)? Nice 96N LX SD auto with about 60k on the clock going for 3k at a main dealer near me. Worth it? I realise there is a main delaer premium on price Thanks Marc
  • Any - Car for the Mrs. 30 Dec 2024 (Forum)
The Mrs takes her driving test tomorrow after years of me nagging for her t learn to drive. Shes 41 and is doing it in an automatic (no problem, my last 3 cars have been auto).  Im reluctant to put her on my insurance as I think my car is way to big and powerful for her at the minute being a new driver (assuming she passes).

  • VW Amarok - Amarok AutomaticHJ review 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
quote...."The automatic Amarok comes with an engine stop/start system as part of Volkswagen's fuel-saving BlueMotion Technology. A first for a pick-up and still pretty rare on many automatic passenger cars. It's a fairly intrusive system and quick to restart too.
  • Ford v Skoda (or others) - Which small/medium auto? 28 May 2012 (Forum)
About 8 years ago I got some excellent advice from you people here in the Back Room Technical forum about what small automatic car to buy. Having had a Clio autobox fail on my, I bought a Polo on your advice and it did sterling service. Now I'm looking to buy another small/medium size automatic (about 3 years old) and I'd really appreciate your views again on the reliability of auto gearboxes.

  • 1st time car buyer - should I buy this? 20 May 2007 (Forum)
For info, the dealer's OTR price for a brand new one is £12,940 and I've been told I won't get much discount on this as I want an automatic. He said the only thing I'm likely to get on a new one is free metallic paint. Should I go for the ex-demo car or pay the extra for a brand new one, or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.
  • Volvo 850 GLT 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Was looking at a 1996 automatic volvo 850 GLT. When i started it up the engine was running fine. The 'lamba' light on the dashboard was on. Does this mean it is time to replace the sensor or is the sensor faulty. have been told that after so many miles the light comes on to say service it or replace it.
  • Medium size auto advice 18 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I drive a 16 mile commute each morning into work through heavy traffic, takes between 45 minutes and one hour depending on if school term time congestion a problem. Considering changing to a modest automatic to take away some of the strain. There seems to be a lot of Astra (old shape) automatics available 2003/4 with the 1.6 8 valve engine. I suspect this may be a bit slow coupled with 4 speed auto transmission as it is rated around 75 to 80 hp with a medium size body to lug around.
