  • SEAT Leon TDI 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The service record indicates that the first service was done at 19,000 miles. Is this acceptable? HJ's Car-by-Car Breakdown talks of the eventual failure of the ECU on TDI 110 models. Was this problem fixed by a certain date eg before 2001?
  • sick bmw 535i 25 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Apparently there is no compression(RAC man). I said to him it might be that something minor has broken and that the ECU just shut everything down so to avoid any further damage. He is a home mechanic but is convinced his big bmw is long gone. If the timing chain were to snap on this engine, would the consequences be very evident, ie; engine in bits and seized?
  • Toyota hi ace ignition key programming. 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have just purchased a new set of ignition and door locks with ecu immobiliser relay and diesel pump cut off valve from my local toyota dealership and have fitted them but now the vehicle will not start! Toyota tell me that the ignition keys need to be programmed by they will not give me any info on how to do this despite the locks costing over £400!
  • misfiring astra 1.7dti & dead spot 18 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 53 reg astra 1.7 dti. It went into vauxhall in Sept/Oct as it had been misfiring, they reprogrammed the ecu but that didn't make any difference. Vauxhall replaced the cat converter as this had gone! (nothing to do with the misfiring, just incredibly noisy) it still misfired when we got the car back, not a lot but it was still there, its going back into vauxhall to be looked at again, has anyone else been experiencing this?
  • K-Series and Kit Cars 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I fancy a 1.6 (enough in something that weighs nothing) but am not sure which bits of the engines are compatible, eg. starter, ignition, ECU etc. Anyone done any 'transplants' who could advise? Or any fibreglass car owner advice would be appreciated too. Thanks Simon
  • 99T Mondeo 2.5 V6 pinking 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I've run a can of PowerBoost through it, which seemed to work, but it re-appeared again a few days later. I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECU memory. I am not going to waste my money taking it to a Ford dealer. It has only started about 5K ago. A full service at 120K had no effect. I would appreciate any further advice
  • New Vectra auto box problem 11 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Lost all transmission without any warning, whilst in traffic queue. Car recovered to Vauxhall dealer. After a few days they replaced the autobox ECU. Car initially ran fine but broke down while dealer test driving it. Still with dealer after 9 days. Vauxhall Technical HQ now considering replacement box. This is an unusual spec car but I would appreciate any comments, suggestions or details of similar auto box problems.
  • Astra 1.7TD - Faulty Fuel Pump? 9 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have problems when accelerating over 70mph, driving with a load, or with less than 1/4 tank of diesel. Car hesitates, looses power and goes into limp mode. Occasionally ECU light comes on but no fault codes are showing. Local dealer changed the MAF but problem is still there. I think it may be the fuel pump as my MPG is also getting worse. Usually a tank will do 530 but struggled to get 510 miles out of it this time with same driving conditions.
  • Black Boxes to monitor tuning mods 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It seems that without full engine monitoring, with owners removing their tuning boxes prior to their main dealer servicing, manufacturers are currently picking up the tab for expensive engine rebuilds under warranty. In future once black boxes are fitted, all ECU mods and tuning devices will be detectable and not only will the vehicles warranty be invalidated, but the true vehicle`s history will be made available to the used car buying public.
  • Faulty electronics - bulging caps? 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Sorry if this has been raised before, Im new here. Ive seen several references to "mysterious" failures in ECUs, eg in the Audi climate control thread. Some people have even referred to failed electrolytic capacitors. Has anyone here heard of the infamous "bulging caps" problem thats been the scourge of the computer industry for the last couple of years?
  • Volvo 850 not starting 22 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Strange thing is that if, after trying to start, the car is then left for a further half hour, it usually starts first time. No faults logged by ECU. Someone who has experienced this type of problem has suggested the "ignition amplifier". Anyone else able to confirm or rule this out, or have any other ideas?
  • Peugeot 206 Discs 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The goober at peugeot reckoned it was from excessive heat through commuter driving!!! (plus its still got that stupid power failure problem - emissions is it? ECU cure?) Any feedback greatly received R6RYM
  • Why should an old motor with MOT be worth Zilch ac 30 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I often use vehicles over ten years old. They go from A to B at 40mpg and have simple engines without ECU or catalyst. Yet on Parkers website they appear to be worth say £200 whether it is a 1990 LDV200 van or a 1983 Metro Auto. I can do my own servicing and do not get upset at the appearance of another scratch.
  • Rover 25 29 May 2001 (Forum)
Apparently I have been told that the engine in the Rover 25 has around 20hp less. Both engines look the same externally. Does anyone know what the difference is? ECU, Camshafts ? Can I uprate the power without my employer noticing? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated as I have to keep this car for three years and to be totally honest the acceleration on this car is pathetic.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira Won't Start - Help! 29 May 2013 (Forum)
They seem to think that the fuel pump is working (they checked the current and it pumped) They also disconnected the battery for an hour to see if the ECU needed resetting.  Non of these things have worked.
  • Rover - P6 3500 / 3500S 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'd like to make the car as economical as possible (my stock 3500S with 2 SU carbs did 29mpg on a really long motorway run) - would fitting EFI be worth doing? Can one fit an ECU? Would an ECU be worth having? I wonder about using an SD1 Vitesse engine with the EFI, but I'm not sure. Help! I'm not going down the LPG route, by the way.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - Can a ECU be decoded from VIN. 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Good evening sir, hope all is well. You have helped me out a lot with my car in the past and I thank you very much, remember I had the advance solenoid...
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 2003 - Intermittent Engine Managment Light 22 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I've driven Vauxhalls or Opel (long time in Germany) for the last 12 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had from any dealer. What else can I do to get the ECU checked without having to resort to Vauxhall???
  • Vauxhall corsa 1.2 twinport 2008 z12 xep - Poor performance 11 Apr 2021 (Forum)
After rebuilding the top end of the engine after a boiling and then head skim.the performance is very poor..pressure test reveals all cylinders within 5% about 180 psi.valve timing  checked ok.new plugs and coil pack.new camshaft sensor. Just does not respond well to throttle. Tick over is a bit rough. Could the ECU have restricted the engine when overheated? I have replaced the battery for a new one so sat overnight disconnected. Any further ideas welcome.thank you. Mike
