Mitsubishi i-car (2007 - ) - Mitsubishi i-car 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
For comparison, you can get an automatic Hyundai Getz or Kia Picanto with more or less the same spec for a bit under £8000 - and those come with a year's free insurance, 3 years servicing for £100 and a 5 year warranty. Of course, they cost a bit more to tax and run, but the economics are still on the side of the Korean cars, I think. The i-car would certainly make sense in London, since it is congestion charge exempt like the Smart. Has anyone else driven one of these? -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 x20xev Poltergeist in rev counter 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I haven't checked the blink codes yet, but I suspect it will just give cam and crank sensor malfunction, like it always does when the engine isn't turning over - no blink codes with engine running. My line of thinking is that it is likely that the reference source for the rpm display is likely to be the crank sensor, so if this sensor is going faulty ( hardly an unusual occurence on an X20XEV) this could give the fluctuating display. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 03 1.4 Judders when pulling away in first - noisy 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi All; Was wondering if you could help, I bought my little peugeot a year ago, and have only three weeks ago but it through its MOT and 70,000 mile service, I had quite a bit of work carried out on the car including replacing the oxygen sensor, and for the first couple of weeks it run perfectly... But then a couple of days ago I noticied it started to judder (almost like when you have pulled away in 2nd or 3rd) when pulling away and that the revs drop to practically nothing, the engine has also started to make a horrid noise, I have checked the cam belt and it dosen't look to have slipped and was replaced according to the history 18 months ago! -

Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 04 how to remove egr valve on 1.9tdi engine 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
(philips for 2 small screws near front of car which holds on air intake pipe. flat bladed screwdriver for main air pipe that goes from airbox to turbo). 12mm socket + short extension + ratchet to undo the 2 nuts for metal pipe that runs from egr valve to just above turbo. 6mm hex for the 2 hex bolts found directly underneath egr valve 5mm hex for the 3 hex bolts that hold egr valve to metal intake manifold flat bladed screwdriver for metal clip which holds hose on to other side of egr valve the pipe on actuator of egr just pulls off (but be careful as plastic and is very fragile, you have be warned) ps this by no means maybe the quickest or easiest way of removal but is roughly how i remember doing it. -
Peugeot 307 CC (2003 - 2008) - 2007 2.0 petrol - excessive engine noise? 26 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Is this right for a 307 cc engine? If anyone has a 1 year old one please advise, my friends and family have mentioned it should run smoothly and quietly. This seems to be so on a standard day and barely noticeable inside the cabin. Then I have also read lots of reviews that mention engine noise so I am in two minds what to believe. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Gazole - Yes or No? 17 May 2008 (Forum)
t use it, I have a VW Golf 2.0 TDI (2006) which I thought would have been setup to accept this kind of fuel. I?m sure other BR?s are running this type of engine so should I ignore the info on the flap or not? -
Austin (Rover) Montego 2.0 (1984 - 1995) - 92 1.9td Clonk cornering or going over dips/bumps 16 May 2008 (Forum)
I even put the bolt back in to see if I could get movement but couldn't. Once I changed the bolt I took the car on a test run on this particular road where the clonk always occoured more often, and the clonk no longer existed. Hope this helps somebody somewhere someday. -
SAAB 900 (1993 - 1998) - 1995 2.3 Enigne Fault Light 15 May 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone HELP me, I have just bought a Saab Convertible 900SE 2.3 and it drives a dream, on the way home the petrol light came on showing I was low on fuel, as I only had about 4-5 miles to go before I was home that is what I did and was going to fill up the next day, in the meantime before stopping the car it started missing very slightly, I was home so I stopped the car, later went out to move it and it would not start giving the impression that it was out of fuel, when it did start I parked it up and saw that the ENGINE FAULT LIGHT was on, now I am thinking could I have brought up some muck and therefore the sensor is showing a fault as it is to much of a coincedence as what happened above. The car is running fine but I have not driven it. What should I do? what could the problem be? and how do I get the light re-set? Can anyone give me some valid advice. {volume reduced in subject header} -
Used car suggestions 5-6k 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Whilst I dont do many miles (around 200 a week) I would like something comfortable that will handle the motorway well for the regular long distance trips to see relatives. Running costs come into the equation as well. Kind of split between two very different choices at the minute, a 1.8 petrol Vectra and a Celica (obviously not a 2004 for 6k) might be my last chance of something quick(ish) before SWMBO starts on about kids. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1995 2.0 dust in fuel tank 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I bought my daughter a 95 2lt 306 petrol here in Australia and shorlty after buying it my son took it to "grass" motokana which was more dust than grass. After about 20 minutes of competing in the dust the thing refused to run over idle, then died. A dead fuel pump and "mud and excrement " in the tank was diagnosed. $450 later we were on the way with a new pump, and thought it was just bad luck and dodgy petrol. Four months later my son was back at the Motokana with his sisters car again, (the full house MK11 escort I bought him is not the right machine for something like Motokana's). -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0 Oil and performance problems - HELP! 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My really urgent problem is that the car ran fine until I left the radio on while working on it for the MOT and the battery ran flat. I charged it the next day. It is now running like a bag of bolts. There is a distinct dip in power when starting off almost to the point of it stalling if you do not keep the revs up and it now sounds like my blinking diesel Vectra. There is no power when driving and it takes a long time to accelarate up to 55-60. -
Citroen BX (1983 - 1993) - 1987 Turbo Diesel - Flat battery 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
This is the second time though this year that we've had a flat battery, first was probably due to extreme cold and that we hadn't given the car a good run for a while. Unfortunately this time lights were left on (wasn't me!). Tried to jump start it today with jump leads using our VW Caravelle Diesel Turbo, but after many attempts it just wasn't charging. -

Rover 45 (1999 - 2005) - 03 1.8 Fuel Gauge Calibrations, what do they mean? 12 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Are these indications of empty and full, as when the gauge drops to the lower line or thereabouts the little yellow petrol pump light comes on (intermittently), but there is still a long way to go to the right of this line and I am afraid I will run out of fuel. Can anyone explain this to me. Have I still fuel in when the yellow pump light appears? Also, what if I fill the tank completely. Will it just reach the upper 'ten to' line, or will it go past there. -
Ford Maverick I (1993 - 1997) - Problem with a car i've just sold 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I obviously feel a bit bad because of the short time between selling the car and him experiencing problems, however it was an old car and only sold for £1000. The car runs perfectly fine, does not show any blue smoke etc. I have a receipt signed by both myself and the new owner for the car listed as "sold as seen", would I be in anyway liable for the problems the new owner is experiencing? -
Design your own car and engine a`backroom special` 10 Feb 2008 (Forum)
You know me by now, doesn`t matter if its a skip as long as it has the mechanical features I want. these are wind up windows no central locking big boot, small vehicle, 2 seats unpainted plastic bumpers best possible economy for largest `boot` space (bought a van not car to achieve all the above) common rail diesel camchain hydraulic tappets Galvanised no wet liners no linear clutch slave cylinder no duel flywheel heater fan and resisters accessible without removing dashboard non metallic paint popular vehicle towards end of production run. (so less build faults and parts available in breakers. Thats what i`m thinking in a new car showroom.... eccentric or what ;) So design your own car, with what it `has` to have and features that you could not tolerate. -
Best value used small car? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Has anyone any opinions on the best make, age and place to buy a small car to buy in terms of price and overall running costs. eg. petrol, insurance, tax, devaluation, reliability. I probably aim to travel only 6000 miles/yr The main factor is least Hazzle. I originally looked at Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz, these have a good reliability record and I have a Toyota garage nearby, unfortunately there are few genuine private sales out there and the dealers ask for top prices. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - Autobox experience and reliability 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I am aware of the suspension wear issues and possible electronic faults on this car and expect to pay more to run it than my current N reg Mondeo with 128k on the clock, I accept this but as I do quite a high mileage, at least 19000 a year, a 5mpg drop will cost and an autobox failure would not be ideal! Thanks in advance. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 95 Corsa radio 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
If a wrong code number has been entered the display will show 'SAFE' and, after the waiting time '9 _ _ _ _'. the correct code should now be entered. I've run the car for hours but SAFE remains on the screen. Any ideas? Jim
