  BCA reports that in November 2006, auction prices for the three-year-old, 60,000-mile 'fleet' cars averaged £6,524 - down just £57 on October’s figure, but up £162 against the same month last year. In 2005, the fall between October and November was a £150.

  Van drivers have a reputation for racking up more miles than most, but in Nigel Weaver’s case the last half a million have all been in the same vehicle. The 53-year old courier from Maidenhead, Berks, bought his Vauxhall Combo new from Burnham Garage in Slough in 2001, just as the model was making its debut. Seven years later, after averaging over 75,000 miles a year, Nigel’s Combo has just clocked up its first 500,000 miles, all on the original engine.

  The Privacy Phone is missing. The handbook clearly states this as being “provided” with the car. Initially the dealer said that I should not expect to find this in a 10-year old car, but their last statement says “the car was not advertised or sold with the benefit of a Privacy Phone being fitted” and that it was my responsibility to satisfy myself with the condition and specification of the car prior to taking delivery.

  This garage suggests the car suffers from condensation and this is quite normal. Am I being fobbed off? Can the dealer more local to me refuse to fix the car? I didn't expect to start so many trips in my ‘new’ car by needing to dry off the windscreen.  TW, via email There must be a leak admitting cold, damp air to the interior of the car.

  The first I’d seen with steel wheels. A 97P Mondeo V6 Ghia X looked very cheap at £275, but was, of course, 10 years old and could have had any number of expensive faults.   .  Blue Peter and Dancing on Ice star Andy Akinwolere has signed up the  Sucata Run this year (driving an old banger worth less than £350 from  Normandy to Portugal).   1962 E-Type Roadster ex-Nina Aga Khan Up For Auction Today 22 Nov 2016 (News)
  The cream E-Type Roadster disappeared and it was presumed lost for ever. However, by chance, an Englishman holidaying in Jamaica last year, was told of two old cars in storage on the island. He duly went to see them, finding a red E-Type coupe and the cream roadster. A deal was struck and the roadster was soon on its way back to the UK. It was only after he applied for a Heritage Certificate that he realised the car was no ordinary E-Type and had such a fascinating story to tell.

  Looking at it this way, the argument for keeping the test on pre-1960 cars seems about as strong as that for introducing the test on two year old cars. But - and this is a big one - is that you could argue that without the MoT test there could be almost 10,000 unroadworthy cars on the road and the big danger is that no one will know.

  There is probably no-one in the country who hasn’t heard of MG Rover’s demise, and there will be many people wondering how the second hand prices will hold up. A MG TF, possibly the MGR car with the best chance of holding its value, was sold for a slightly low £8,000. It was a 135bhp version with 16,500miles on a 2002/52 plate and in good condition. But Car Giant are selling one year old examples with half the mileage for only £1,500 more.
