Auction Prices Firmer; Few Bargains

Wed, 04 Apr 2001
Prices were firmer at auction today as Spring demand rises and the supply of part-exchanges and de-fleetings from the March registration change start to dry up. 30,000 less miles, an automatic rather than manual box and desirable Glacier Green metallic rather than Arctic Silver saw a 50,000 mile 97P BMW 523iSE sell for £12,600, a cool £2,600 more than the 80,000 mile manual 98R which went for just £10,000. Diesels did well with a 12,000 mile 2000W Focus Ghia TD selling for £9,975, a 25,000 mile 2000V Peugeot 406 HDI 110 LX Estate selling for £11,300; a 14,000 mile 2000W Renault Scenic RT DTI selling form £10,650; a 12.000 mile 2000W Astra 2.0DI 16v selling for £8,700 and even a 19,000 mile 2000W Citroen Xantia HDI 90 LX Estate selling for £9,575. Mileage did not knock diesels back too badly either with £8,000 paid to secure an 86,000 mile Sharan TDI 90 S 7 seater and a massive £7,875 paid for a 103,000 mile 98R Passat TDI 110 Sport Estate which kicked off at £5,400 (reg 'R478 RTY' in case it gets a haircut). Other high prices included £15,450 paid for a 28,000 mile 2000W E46 BMW 318iSE; £8,950 paid for a 90,000 mile 98R Audi A6 2.4SE Tiptronic; and all of £7,650 paid for an old shape 23,000 mile 98R Hyundai 2.0SE Coupe. Despite these high prices, someone did quite well to pick up an uncatalogued 16,000 mile 99T Peugeot 306 2.0 Convertible for £10,200 (£2k under trade book), while Daewoos problems ensured that £2,150 was enough to buy a 41,000 mile 97R Lanos 1.4 3-door.
