Rat run - near miss - fear v food 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It was long and fast, although I guess that`s a relative term when there`s a Punto van towering over you - the gleam of greased pipes and frames almost overhead. But not quite - NOT QUITE!! ------- made it - although perceived in the languar of retirement relaxation, amongst the lemmings of the morning rush hour, as perhaps a ferret - the poor mans whippet of these Northen climes. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.8 o/s indicator not working 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi I shall try and be as brief and succinct as poss! My o/s indicator at the back does not work at all. All other lights etc work on the car. Garage has told me I need new ECU as they can detect a signal going to the ECU but there does not appear to be any output telling the indicator to flash. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 06 1.4 Intermittent Brake Lights 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
However, a bloke in a local garage to work told me that there is a switch by the front passenger door somewhere that may have been knocked but as yet I have not had a chance to check this. As I mentioned they are only intermittently coming on. Any ideas please?. as it?s a bit dangerous considering she does the school run with the kids in the back and I reckon it?s only a matter of time before some bonehead drives into the back of her? Thanks Keith McCormack -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Advice on backing out of buying one 19 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm after some advice. 2 weeks ago we did a deal to buy an S-Max on a 56 plate. The car was at another site so we were not able to inspect it. We agreed a price and left a £250 deposit which we were told was refundable. The paperwork however says that it is not refundable. -
What`s your risk assessment on breakdown? 12 Apr 2008 (Forum)
A two point question regarding breakdowns. 1) When did you last breakdown (by the roadside) and how did you get out of it? 2) what`s your current plan to minimise risk the of being stranded by a breakdown? some comment, I guess I can`t have been alone in days gone by, scorning breakdown services and carrying a massive tool box, spare clutch cable, fuel pump and many other parts that were deemed `a risk`. -
MINI MINI Cooper and S R56 (2007 - ) - Door Mirrors stolen 15 Nov 2007 (Forum)
A colleague at work has recently had the door mirrors stolen from her Mini Cooper S (BMW want £300 parts only). When she informed the police it was the 11th case that weekend in the area so clearly someone was doing the rounds and no doubt these will appear on ebay or similar. They were removed suprisingly easily and they left no damage to the doors - they did a real good job. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - S-reg diesel - Getting harder to engage 2nd gear 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have a S-reg diesel estate 5 speed manual on 125,000 miles on original clutch. Over the last 500 miles it has been getting progressively harder to get into 2nd, particularily when coming down the box. Other gears engage OK. -

It´s got to be small, sporty, cheap, fun and a bit leftfield. Oh and Mrs B has to approve... Thoughts so far: Seicento Sporting Original Mini (when did they stop making them BTW?) Ford Puma Fiat Coupe Right chaps. -
Jeep Cherokee 4 litre S reg 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
A friends S reg Jeep Cherokee 4 litre has an intermittent fault with the rear passenger electric window. Sometimes it works and as you've guessed, sometimes it doesn't. We have checked for broken/loose cables where they pass through door into B pillar, and checked feed to switch and motor. -
Advice on Trade In Please 7 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have now discovered that I gave the garage the wrong info about my car - I told them it is was a Passat S but when I checked the V5 it turns out to be an SE. According to Parkers the difference in Trade In value is £260 (SE worth more than S). A stupid stupid mistake. What can I do? The deal is done and I collect the car on Friday. -
Help in identifying Postman Pat\'s van 6 Dec 2003 (Forum)
On her daily commute to Dorchester she saw a van of unusual appearance and knowing what a fine bunch her husband corresponds with on that internet thingy, set me the task of finding its origins. Best described as looking like Postman Pat\'s van, very upright and boxlike at the rear (absolutely vertical rear doors) with prominent wheelarches and, most puzzlingly, what appeared to be a tube/rollbar running from the front bumper, along the top edge of the wing and up the A pillar. -
wheel bearings ? 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It had been intermittent in the last few weeks but is now permanent after 10 minutes. If it is the wheel bearings, it is preferable to change both sets at the same time ? (o/s and n/s wheels). Is this noise consistent with the one of worn out wheel bearings ? Is it urgent and what sort of bill should I expect ? Thanks for your help, Catalyst -
New Tyres - Golf TDI Mk4 (S-98) 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Consequently, I plan to revert to my former (Astra) habit of using Michelin Mud and Snow tyres 12 months a year - although these were/are (?) not officially "all-year" tyres. Has anyone experience with Conti, Michelin or other M&S tyres on a Golf TDI Mk4, please ? -

2007 Ford S-Max 1.8TDCI 125 - Smokey Ford S-Max 1.8TDCI 125 24 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hi All Hoping someone might be able to help/has seen the same symptoms. I have a 2007 Ford S-Max 1.8TDCI 125 with 93K on the clock. I recently serviced the car; oil, oil filter and air filter. Before the service the car was really reluctant to rev out until it had warmed up fully, once warm, it drove without any hesitance. -
Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - 2004 Porsche 986 Boxster S 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Of course, there are also the unsensible frivolties of being able to attain such a car as the Porsche Boxster at this tender age. I've been offered a 2004 Porsche 986 Boxster S with 20k miles on the clock for £22k and 5k in exchange for my late 2007 Skoda Fabia, which has around 16k miles on the clock. I ask if this is a reasonable offer, and whether I should take the plunge. -
New car - old car? £7,000 down the drain? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It`s going up to an injection specialist tomorrow to see whether its injectors or pump giving a problem. It`s IDE and a rotary pump - so that may be better news than if it were common rail. Last night the gears became difficult to select and from the feel of it - it`s the linkage - not the box. -
Merc "Can't find anything wrong" problem 15 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have a 97 Mercedes E320 Avantgarde (sports suspension - basically hard springs & shocks) which has a sometimes nasty twitch from the rear end. The back will twitch to the left when hitting a pothole with the n/s wheels, and sometimes when hitting a different surface on the n/s wheels from the o/s. It doesn't do it with a bump or if both n/s & o/s wheels hit the same object (trough or bump). I have had it checked by a main Mercedes dealer, a small independent, and a middling-size general but very experienced garage, and none can find anything wrong, either with the suspension set-up (arms, bushes etc etc) or even can they reproduce the problem. -
Escort Auto Problems 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I\'ve recently bought a second hand Escort 16V 1.6 Auto Ghia (thankfully, it\'s the Zetec-E version, so the gearbox hopefully won\'t pack up on me). It\'s a \'96, done 39K, and been regularly serviced (stamped up roughly every 6-7K), and in very good cosmetic condition, having been previously owned by oldies down in Worthing. 1) The thing my girlfriend noticed right off the bat was the fact that there\'s a wheel bearing/fanbelt slipping sound between 20 and 35mph (1.5K - 2K revs). -
Hard ground 19 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Wonder where it`s mortal remains are? Perhaps a trace of fish bone at the bottom of a tip - or perhaps it`s been rotted in a garden, assimilated by a plant and travelled the world as gas. Funny how it`s fighting spirit lives on in the minds eye though - that flash of gold amidst the black, coal dust streaked nostrils of those hard men - spitting coal flegm and taking the un- coughable coal back into the hard ground in which they once toiled.
