I have reproduced it below in verbatim The council of the London borough of Ealing believes that a penalty charge is payable with respect to the vehicle registration mark XXXXX for the alleged contravention of Entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited in South Road ? Junction of St. Joseph?s Drive, UB1 on xxxxxx at xxxx. The alleged contravention is supported by recorded video footage. -
BMW 3 Series Touring 3 Jun 2007 (Forum)
For example, if I get a newer, high mileage example to reduce the cost, could I expect reasonable service from it for the above period, whilst at the same time driving a good quality and capable vehicle that has already suffered a great deal of its depreciation in somebody else?s hands. The image/status/prestige isn't that important but service and quality is, hence looking at what I think would be a 'hard wearing' car. -
Rapeseed oil in diesel 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Smoke seems to be down, and a cold start was much less 'fragrant' :^D I don't want to do it often without paying the tax (It's more due to the fact I like mucking about with this sort of thing than trying to extort ££££'s from Gordorn Brown). So I'd like to pay the tax so that I can safely keep dabbling and seeing what happens. Is this allowed, and what is the status now regarding 'biofuel'? I remember it has to have below a certain level of sulphur and above a certain level of esters, but I'm no chemist. -
Does Mk3 1.6 Golf have a pierberg carb? 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Ever since Mrs S's MR2 got rear ended she has been hankering after another convertible, so having a little time in hand on the way home today we stopped for a impluse look round the local cheap & cheerful cars sales outlet ( ex petrol station; 20/30 cars; £500 to £5k ) 1995 Mk3 convertible, 84k, 1.6 ( I think ) petrol. but it looks like it has a squashed carburettor between the air filter and the inlet manifold; is this the dreaded Pierberg contraption that I read so much about on the forum, or is it a harmless form of fuel injection? -
Lies, Damn Lies and Fuel computers 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, My last three cars have all had fuel computers and they have all been quite accurate. Although I haven't got a great deal of data to go on , I have just got a new 1.8 TDCi S-Max and it does appear to flatter your ego a bit. My last two fill ups it told me I was getting 51 and 49.8 MPG respectively - LIES. Below is a table of my actual consumption worked out brim to brim. -

Signum - good choice ? 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I am a great believer in buying a good spec "old model" prob c. 2+ years old when most (no - not all) of the initial depreciation has been taken taken by the previous owner(s). I have been considering a Signum automatic with Elite spec. and would appreciate any comments and experiences of this model from others on the Forum. The Signum has never had rave reviews and not liked by motoring journalists but to me it appears a very practical motor with a great spec. and good reliability which can be had for reasonable money. -
Obtaining missing service history? 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The car has a low number of previous owners and I can see from the limited amount of receipts it was ex-Network Q. I have a copy of February 2006's Car Mechanics which seems to suggest that some manufacturers will provide, either free or for a small fee, a copy of service printouts from their central database if the car was dealer serviced. Has anyone done something similar with their Vauxhall, and if so is it best to go to the local dealer's service manager, the supplying dealer, or Vauxhall themselves? -

Toll road price increase 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
This is now starting to get a bit expensive I think. I was coming down from Lancs to Oxfordshire and will use £40's of petrol for the trip, if I add the toll road into that then I spend £48 on the journey. So it's added 20% onto my bill (we'll ignore depreciation for this calculation, the car will still depreciate whether or not I use the toll road) Yesterday had to do the same journey so decided not to bother and although the M6 thro' Brum was busy and I had to queue for a bit, I decided it was worth saving the £4 to do this. -
Nightmare Altea 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have little faith that the dealer is suddenly going to be able to fix the fault so I feel like there is little choice other than replace the car and let it be someone else?s problem. Tim -
bmw warranty 17 May 2006 (Forum)
When I purchased the extended warranty 3 yrs ago there was nothing about excluding the suspension. I would appreciate your advice on this matter ? I don't want to pay many 100's of pounds to the dealer. -
Punto crunching into gear 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
No apparent leaks from the master cylinder. I haven?t yet checked the gearbox oil level, but thought I might change it anyway ? it?s meant to be done at 80,000. No oil leaks from the gearbox either. So the questions are, any ideas as to the cause and, if I change the oil, should I replace it with SAE80W as specified, or go for something thinner? -
Volvo S60 Handbrake problem 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Up until this the hand brake was very efficient, after the replacement it was spongy, and a week later after it's 24000 mile service where they stripped out, cleaned and adjusted backplate on O/S/R it is now a little better. My questions are: 1) could I have warpped the disc's by rocking the car as I did 2) did the garage see an opportunity to make money with doing more than was needed 3) if the garage are honest, what is my next step to recover the cost of the work from Volvo UK. -
Mondeo mk3 door mirror 1 Jan 2006 (Forum)
But will they work with the exsisting wiring? I have been told the wiring is the same through out all the mk3's so that shouldnt be a prob, and that i only need a brown relay for the fuse box? is this true? If anyone can help in telling what could be required i would be very gratefull. Thank you. Pete -
£8k to spend. What to buy? 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Having trawled through Autotrader and HJ's CBCD I've come up with a short list and would appreciate your feedback: Citroen C5 Estate 2.0i/2.2 HDi Ford Mondeo 2.0i/2.0 TDCi Zetec-S/Ghia X Honda Accord 2.0i SE Exec (old shape) MG ZT+ 1.8t 160 Saab 9-5 2.0t Vauxhall Omega 2.2i CD I've briefly run the Mondeo and Rover 75 in the past and liked them. The Mondeo is a strong contender but is there anything else worth considering? -

from one extreme to the other 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I loved the comfort of the LS400, but fancy something more driver oriented. Any experiences of owning 7 series(94-02), S class(91-99) or A8 (95-03)? Do LPG conversions work well with those cars? Would love to get a Jaguar XJ8, but I'm a big lad and I'm so cramped in those cars. I'm not fussed about mileage. I read somewhere that the average heart rate of a driver of a luxury car is about 8 beats a minute lower than that of a driver of a small engined small car. -
Possible NIP and Leaving the Country 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I slowed down on seeing the marked car. I wasn?t stopped but there was no sign of a second police vehicle. If I have been caught it?s a fair cop. However, I was on a short visit back to the UK while in the middle of a 6month overseas contract. I have primed my wife to look out for any NIP but what I need to know is what I / my wife can do in respect to my licence which I need physically to have with me should this happen.
