Outrage at plans for £4500 a year ‘modern classic tax’ in the capital 18 Jun 2018 (News)
That would bring the price of owning a classic car in the capital up to almost £4500 a year before the cost of fuel, tax and insurance. While the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) has campaigned hard to ensure owners of Vehicles of Historic Interest get dispensation under the new rules, any exemption will only apply to cars that are 40 years old or more - putting thousands of Eighties, Nineties and 21 st century classics at risk. -

Buying at Auction: BCA Offers Some Tips 27 Mar 2010 (News)
One-owner for reliability and value for money Depending on the budget, BCA advises buyers to look for one-owner, direct-entered cars from fleets and leasing companies. Typically around three-years-old, these cars will have been well-serviced during their working life and represent excellent value for money. Dealer part-exchange cars can also offer good value, with a range of older cars for those on a tighter budget. -

A Glacier Green 2001X 728i was a bit lumpy at 102k miles, but did not show them in its condition an looked like a very good buy at £9,600 provisional. -
Plenty of Good Buys at Auction Today 9 Jul 2003 (News)
It’s a funny time in the used car trade. Demand for convertibles is up, as usual, but punters are generally very wary of high insurance groups unless the car bearing them comes with a lot of status attached. Middle of the road stuff is flat one day, selling the next, so still being bought but with a degree of caution. -
Topless Appearance at Auction Today 2 Jul 2003 (News)
Not even for a fiver. Poor little thing. As for TwoJags 90G Sovereign 4.0 litre, it didn’t sell. The car had quite a chequered history having been an Irish import previously registered ‘TIW 5331’ and re-registered ‘G355AVL’ in 1996 as a ‘five door hatchback’. Its 86k miles were unwarranted. -
Status Stuff dear, but P/Xs Cheap at Auction Today 15 Jan 2003 (News)
A big batch of Rover 75s was quite instructive, too. They were all 2000W reg BMW Oxford built cars with black sills, and prices varied enormously according to colour, engine and spec. Dearest by a long way was a 40k mile Connoisseur diesel in Tahiti Blue which someone wanted so much they paid £9,800. -
The 1990s modern classics that are fast disappearing from Britain's roads 22 Dec 2017 (News)
There are several reasons, but one of the biggest is the 2009-10 scrappage scheme. Here the Government encouraged people to trade-in cars more than ten years old for £2000 off a new car – a discount that you could’ve got by haggling. In total, 392,227 future classics were taken off the road because of the scrappage scheme. -

A Grand Monday: Ford Scorpio Ultima 24 Jul 2017 (News)
s=carAndClassic&id=C887328" target="_blank" title="Ford Scorpio Ultima £995">All of which make a 38,000-mile from new survivor such as this a real rarity these days. Twenty-two years old, and having been owned for more than 20 years by its first (private) owner, this is a car that deserves to be preserved. On the downside, it's only a 2.0-litre (if it were a Cosworth-developed V6, you wouldn't be reading this as we'd have already bought it) and it has a few cosmetic defects, but on the plus side, it's in range-topping Ultima spec, with air-con, auto 'box, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and a premium sound system, though, oddly, no leather - it was a free of charge delete option on the Ultima. -

The last time Nick Garrick sat in the back of this 1972 Toyota Crown he was 12 years old and his grandparents, Percy and Ethel Cole, were in the front seats. Nick recalls that the Toyota was something of a spontaneous purchase for his grandfather, Percy. Dissatisfied with a similar model from a British manufacturer, Mr. -
A Grand Monday: Volvo 340 18 Jul 2016 (News)
Consequently, solid, unmolested 340s are now rare old beasts. This 1987 Volvo 340 1.7-litre , then, is a rarity. -
Skoda Fabia vRS (2010-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The five-speed manual in the original Octavia vRS seems prehistoric in comparison. The DSG is a sophisticated system but it’s never quite as fun or as involving as a good old manual. That said, the changes are so quick it means you can focus on the handling and steering without worrying about the gears too much. What is odd is that the similar aged SEAT Ibiza FR was available with the 2.0 TDI engine with 143PS and a six-speed manual. -

Busy Auction at Blackbushe Today 3 Dec 2003 (News)
But with a mere 5,000 miles under its wheels it was a bargain to whoever got it for £15,000; a cool £5,000 under list. It was a day to buy three year old 20k – 30k Omega 2.5 CDX autos. Four 2000X regers sold for between £6,100 and £6,600. A lot of motor for the money. Some surprising cars were way behind book, such as a 39k mile 2001X facelift Mercedes SLK 200K auto in silver, sold for £15,300, a 20k mile 52 reg B6 Audi A4 2.4 Avant Sport, sold for £14,700 (apparently they’re a bit juicy), and a new shape 19k mile 2001/51 Lotus Elise, gone for £14,950. -
New KIA Shuma II, from just £8,995 25 Feb 2002 (News)
KIA has relaunched its Shuma 5-door hatchback as the new look Shuma II with a new interior and with prices from just £8,995 (the same as Citroen's current price for the Xsara 1.4LX with a/c). The size of the cars is similar to that of the Mitsubishi Carisma, Skoda Octavia and old Vauxhall Vectra, so it's longer than a Focus, but smaller than a Mondeo. £8,995 buys the 1.6L, which has the sweeter of the two engines on offer. -
Five Grand Friday: Suzuki Swift Sport 28 Aug 2015 (News)
On a small car like this it's important to check for any parking dings on the bumpers or doors, but this Swift looks very tidy. Similarly have a good look at the alloys. With relatively big wheels for a small car, it's all too easy to kerb them. -
Top Car End of Year Clearance Today 9 Dec 2002 (News)
That was the last Top Car of the Year at Blackbushe. Next Top Car sale is Monday 6th January. But still hang on in there for the fleet and finance sales. Though some end of year new car discounts are making used cars look dear right now, short supply will push used prices back up again in the new year, so anything bought well this month is almost bound to be worth more next month.
