    The recreation is acknowledged as one of the ‘blue riband’ events for Europe’s booming historic rallying scene with close to 100 crews set to contest the event in a mouth-watering line-up of competition-tuned Ford Escort MKIs and MKIIs, Porsche 911s, Vauxhall Chevette HSRs, Lancia Stratos and Fulvias, Saab 96s and Mini Coopers as well as other favourite models of cars from the era.   And now Croft, the North East’s premier motor sport venue located just south of Darlington off the A167, can release more details about its much anticipated R.A.C Rally date (Sat 3 Dec).

  While a 10k mile 2002/52 2.0T petrol Privilege manual sold for £7,700. Contrast that with what Leaseplan’s 2002/51 reg MINI Coopers were making in the next door hall. They were all the same spec with Pepper pack and tlc service contracts, but the cheapest, a 49k miler, sold for £7,850; a 23k miler sold for £8,400 and the vendor seemed to want at least that for the others which had between 23k and 35k miles.

  BCA’s star car, a beautifully restored 1988F Cortina 1600E in a shade of red no 1600E was ever originally painted sold for the estimated £8,800. Another 60’s car, this time a 7,000 mile 1969H Mini Cooper 1275S, originally owned by an associate of a famous East End ‘firm’ bit to a less than estimated £10,300. A nice 1958 TR3A bid to £8k, a 1966 Healey 3000 to £17.5k, a 1964 slant-eye Silver Cloud Mulliner coupe to £19.5k and a 1960 VW Karmann Ghia to £3,650.

  Hidden away in the Wood & Pickett section is a 1981 Mini 95L pick-up, fitted with a fuel injected 1,275 engine. Built in the 1990s, it has only done 6,780 miles and is offered at no reserve. That could see it come for as little as £6,000, but if there’s a bidding war it could make £15,000.

  Massive Racing This Weekend at Croft 21 Jul 2011 (News)
  The iconic and much loved French cars will be in action three times over the weekend – in two short sprints counting towards their own championship plus, on the Saturday evening, a mini two-hour endurance race featuring driver-change pit stops.   One to watch will undoubtedly be ‘racing maestro’ Jeff Wilson. The 63-year-old from Newcastle-upon-Tyne , who has achieved countless race wins and titles during his lengthy motor sport career, is unbeaten so far this season in Northern Sports & Saloons with victories in each of the four races he has contested in his spectacular 170mph Lotus Elise (pictured).
