  • I'm buying car insurance for the first time. 21 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I've been with this company for 10+ years but I am now going to switch. It is the company that my parent chose for me when I first was learning how to drive. I have received a bunch of quotes for car insurance, which are all significantly lower. Can you give me tips on selecting one? I'm not sure which companies are trustworthy.

Hi, my daughters qashqui was driving perfectly till last night, she went to start it this morning and it started very roughly and white smoke came from the exhaust. Would anyone have any ideas what could be wrong before she contacts a garage.
  • Which? Confirms Hidden Costs of Running Diesel Cars 7 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Apart from the fuel savings, my '09 XF 3.0d cost £1k more than the petrol 3.0, and is now worth £4k more at trade-in. And it's a better drive!  A typical Which? headline grabber with little substance.  The real question is why diesel in the UK costs 15-20p more a litre than our European neighbours are paying, whereas petrol costs are about the same.

  • Any Beware - European Low emission zones 6 Jul 2019 (Forum)
For anyone thinking of driving in Europe, Where there is a possibility of being close to a Low emission zone, register just in case there is a traffic diversion in place. We went to Antwerp last week and although I had registered, I had no intention of entering, but traffic and and accident on Ring 1 scuppered my  hope of getting to our destination without entering.
  • 118d - Weird brake fault? 29 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So I'm hoping someone really kind could advise me on this, I have a 59 plate 118d which I was driving and started to smell a burning rubber smell it was the pad so i got a new caliper from a reputable BMW breaker. After having the caliper fitted my brakes are now soft to the floor unless pumped? Was told mechanic had manually bled the system 3 times and was determined there's no air in there?
  • What to buy?? 28 Jun 2019 (Forum)

  • KIA Ceed CRDI 2.0l Sport 2009 - Lack of performance after mandatory ecu upgrade 15 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Hi, after a main dealer ecu update the performance has dropped off alarmingly and the drive is very disappointing compared to previously.Max torque before was from 1800 to 2000 rpm, I don't know where it is now for there is no 'wow' acceleration factor. I would want the procedure reversed because this is not the car I bought anymore.
  • any - Car Search - Internet Sites 23 May 2019 (Forum)
Following on from a previous post of petrol vs diesel I am looking for a Mondeo 1.5T petrol - my gut says diesel could be expensive based on the type of driving I do. So, I have been looking through the usual websites: CarGurus, Parkers, Autotrader to find a suitable car. However, I have noticed that some dealerships do not appear on any of these searches.
  • Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSi 160 - Throttle Body 26 Feb 2019 (Forum)
My 59 plate Scirocco went into limp mode while driving a couple of weeks back. On diagnosis the throttle body needs replaced. After going into the garage and getting parts that end with the letter a, b and d none have been the right size. The bore diameter of the one currently in the car is 60mm but the depth is 72mm yet every one they’ve received from a supplier has had a depth of 85.
  • Crashed into by a car performing a 3 point turn 23 Feb 2019 (Forum)
My son was involved in a crash with a merc performing a 3 point turn today. He was driving along the road and there was a merc ahead, side ways across the road. There were cars parked on the sides of the road, blocking the view. He assumed the merc was pulling backwards into a driveway or a parking space.
  • Winter weather brings out the idiots 1 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Saw this on the news yesterday, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-47040584 Then this morning while driving through the town of Ellon i saw a car waiting to come out on to the main road with, i would say about 80% of the windscreen (and about 100% of the remaining glass) opaque due to frost and ice. Beggars belief that folk wont spend a few extra minutes warming up the car and clearing the glass, at least enough to see where you are going!.

  • Useless 101 22 Aug 2018 (Forum)
What is the point of 101 when they don't act on information? Perhaps it should be no surprise that there are so many uninsured vehicles driving about.
  • Toyota Aygo - Rolling Down Hill Even Though in Reverse Gear 19 Jun 2018 (Forum)

  • Sprinter 313 CDI - Speed Limiter 20 May 2018 (Forum)
I drive Sprinter vans at work which are restricted to 62 MPH. Even downhill on the motorway, the vans stick at bang on 62. Same uphill too. How does this type of limiter work? Is it some mechanical device within the gearbox?
