  • Replacement for Forester 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Just continuing my thoughts on replacing my Forester, I have been thinking about smallish vehicles with high perceived quality. I don't need nor want a large vehicle, even though I can afford to buy/run one. My needs are at least four doors and automatic. As my Forester has heater leathed seats, climate and cruise control I would want to replicate these as I find them all helpful. So I am thinking of....
  • Vauxhall Astra Immobiliser?? 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Checked the fuel pump - No power was going to the fuel pump I then bridged the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump ran OK (didn't try starting the car in case I damaged anything) From this I concluded (rightly or wrongly) that either the fuel pump relay is not working or the relay is not receiving a signal from the ecu to "switch on" the relay and allow power to run to the pump. I was wondering if this "switch on" signal to the relay is given by the ecu immobiliser, I have no mil lights or other warning lights coming up on the dashboard. I have tried programming the key using the vauxhall ignition..press key few times etc.

  • Ford Transit 100 T260 - lack of power 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sometimes it accelerates at lower speed through the rev range impressively and then the next minute it runs out of steam shortly after the turbo gives a bit of boost. Totally upredictable! It's just undergone a big service, changing oil, fuel, airfiler (clogged worse than I've ever seen one!) and this has made no different to performance :-(.
  • HELP !! Audi A4 V6 idle problem 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Then I used some injector cleaner for a couple of tank loads of fuel and had a long motorway blast which also proved fruitless. I know that there are loads of sensors that could effect the running of the car but before I start to change anything at great expense thought I'd try you guys incase anyone has had a similar problem and fixed it, look forward to your response with baited breath !!
  • xsara 2.0hdi estate brake problems 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
seems fault still on the drivers side . The garage said when caliper removed from passenger side for hoses fluid run freely out , but when removed from drivers side , hardly any fluid trickled out .After bleeding fluid coming out both sides as it should . Seeing as the brakes are still binding slightly on drivers side what can cause this .
  • Mercedes W202 footwell water leak. 28 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Can any one enlighten me as to the problem and how it might be fixed. I will really appreciate any advice since I am due to use the car again shortly for a long run in this seemingly never ending hot weather. NOTE The car stayed out for six nights while I was away (it is normally garaged), but only a 25 minute shower of rain occured during those few days. Dampness was totally absent before today.
  • Puma vs Civic vs 323F vs 406 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
So for £2,000 I found 1.4 Puma (98S), 1.5 Civic 3dr (97R), Mazda 323F 1.5 Gxi (98R) and 406 Coupe 2.0 (98S). Now the latter is a bit out there (running costs, ins, fuel), and has covered more miles than the rest (100,000 vs. 50,000 for the rest)...but the beauty and practicality draw me to it... what do other backroomer's think? Keep in mind, I could use space to move my stuff to/from uni, and I like driving.
  • bmw warranty 17 May 2006 (Forum)
I have a BMW 323 E46 which I took into the BMW dealer yesterday before the BMW extended warranty runs out. I bought the warranty when I purchased the car 3 years ago from the BM dealer. The dealer called yesterday stating that the car required a coolant and brake fluid change, these however were done only last year by the dealer !!.
  • Odd new turbo noise - Volvo S40 D 10 May 2006 (Forum)
It's only started in the last day and the performance doesn't appear to have altered much, although (and it may just be my imagination) the turbo doesn't seem to be following itself through on gear changes as much as it used to and the engine appears to run on for a fraction of a second longer after I flick the key off. What could it be? I'm almost certain it's something in the turbo area, but I'm not well versed on the workings of turbos, so I don't really know what to look for.
  • Mondeo TDCi Oil Level 2 May 2006 (Forum)
I've dipped it whilst stone cold and it's parked on the level. The handbook doesn't specify the best time to dip, should I only dip after the engine has been run after waiting for a couple of minutes? I've always had petrol cars previously and they've never over-read on the dipstick when dipped cold. Any other Mondeo TDCi owners got any ideas? I know there may be a few around the forum ;-)
  • What fits What? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The nearest Yamaha dealer is around 30 miles away so thought I would try a small independent motorcycle garage just down the road. The old guy who runs the place had a look at my damaged bearing and made a note of some numbers from it. He wandered into his store room and emerged with a freshly boxed bearing. It appeared that the bearing on my Yamaha was also used in a Honda motorbike, a Hoover washing machine, a BMW and a Atco grass mower.
  • VW Polo 1996 reg not starting 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I know it's not the battery, it's only replaced last few months (I also tried using a battery jump start to rule out that it'snot a battery problem). I have alos serviced the car last month, with the spark plugs replaced. The car runs beautifully yesterday, but it failed to start this morning suddenly? Can this happen? Can it be the distributor again? What can I check for? Or shall I just call the RAC again? Thanks for any advice.

My son unpluged the air flow meter and the man. light came on.(made the car run worse) Plugged it back in,light went out.Car back to 'normal'Next day light came on again-I flashed the codes and got Air flow meter malfunction and O2 sensor circuit malfunction-Would the O2 sensor be linked to the unplugging?
  • Bye Bye Rover ! 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The Chinese company has refused to commit to a long-term contract with the site's owners, property firm St Modwen and will only agree to extending its current contract, which runs out on February 22, for six months. A spokesman for St Modwen told the IoS that Nanjing wants more time to draw up its business plan for sports car production with the GB Sports Car Co before it signs.
  • ignition system current starvation 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a single cylinder four stroke motorscooter that has a weak spark resulting in poor/non starting. When it does start, it runs well. I have narrowed it down to a weak spark, which is orangey yellow in appearence. The bike has no kick start lever and cannot be bump started because it is automatic. It has electronic ignition ie. no contact breakers and I have checked everything else, like the coil, plug, HT lead, earths, etc etc but NOT the battery.
  • VW Golf Battery 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I did speak to a garage who deal with electrical problem with cars and they did mention the engine management system may be the problem. I am totally lost at what to do, my warranty runs out end March and this fault isnt going away. Can car computers be re-booted like personal computers? Any advise would be very much appreciated. Thanks Noel
  • Phantom traffic reports 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Yet both traffic reports had independently reported an accident had just occurred involving a lorry in the contraflow, and that people had been ringing in about it. The funny thing was that the traffic that morning was running through the roadworks some 15 MPh slower than usual - coincidence ? Maybe phantom traffic reports are a new initiative to slow us all down at roadworks - anybody else come across this scheme ?
  • Parking lights- what happened to them? 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Maybe the market has disappeared because nobody seems to pay much attention now to the rules on parking and lights - i.e. you MUST park facing the 'right' way and use parking lights unless in a 30 (or lower) speed limit and at least 10m from a junction (HC rules 222-224) If I have to leave my car on the road overnight I will turn it round if necessary to face the right way - I take the possibly over-cautious view that if anybody does run into it through their own incompetence, I don't want to give them an excuse to blame me. Has anybody actually beeen taken to task over these regulations?
