  • FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 1994 1.1 Flat spot & poor acceleration 2 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I don,t have a scanner(well actually I have an Autel VAG305 for VW) but when checked by a local mechanic recently no fault codes & fuel pressure was steady at tickover & full throttle. ECU is IAW 6F 58 no immobiliser ecu - very early '94 model not fitted. Sorry it's a bit long winded but I tried to describe all symptoms & what has been tried to cure problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1999 1.4 erratic high speed idle 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I found the over-revving thread which you contributed to, checked my PSP switch and found a broken wire. Fixed that, reset ecu and hey presto problem solved... or is it? The idle speed when stationary is now spot on at around 875 rpm however it still increases very slightly to around 1000 rpm or fractionally over when coasting out of gear.

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 HDi fuel problem? 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Sometimes it is ok for a few days, other times I can't clear it at all. I have tried taking the battery off to reset the ECU, but no joy. I suspect it is either an ECU problem or something to do with the fuel supply? When it does do it and I switch off the engine appears to run on for a few seconds, could this be a clue?

  • Peugeot 205 Gentry 1.9 GTi (Auto) 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I wanted to know if there is some other way I could eek out more power from my car without having to replace the engine or throw money at it since the only limiting factor to my mind might be the ECU. So my question is: * Can I simply 'swap out' my ECU for one from a manual 1.9 GTi and expect my car to have increase performance? * Is there a limiter or something in my car that I could remove so that the engine could run to its fuller potential?
  • Std quoted power outputs and tuning. 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
My car has done 83k though is in good order, can anyone say from experience whether I am likely to encounter any mileage related problems if I were to go down the chipping route. Lastly, with regard to the TDCi's Ford periodically introduce revised ECU settings, I am not sure if the chip/box will override these standard settings or work togther with them, i.e. would it be a good idea to have the latest ECU update before getting a chip/tuning box fitted or would it not make any difference?
  • Possible group buy for remaps in N.I. 11 Jul 2004 (Forum)
As far as our discussions went with regard to the VAG TDi 110 engine, he says there is usually no physical evidence (such as re-soldering chips) that the work has been done. The only possible trace is if the ECU has to be removed, a retaining clip may have to be bent back, and then bent into place again when the ECU is replaced. If you want to be a part of the group buy, or if you have any specific questions, post a reply here and I'll try to pass them on.
  • Mondeo Noises 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It can't be the timing or fuelling (I hope) as the cars engine management constantly adjusts these things on its own. I am starting to think that perhaps it should make this noise as part of the ECU program, to somehow control economy or emissions. My only other idea is that it could be the fuel injectors or fuel pressure. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Anyone else had this problem?
  • Mazda MX5 (1998-2005) - 99 1.8 Intermittant starting problem defies analys 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
They had the computers on its diagnostic port and diagnostic oscilloscope on various sensors and reckon they saw normal waveforms. They believed it is the ECU but were unable to test it. For 4 hours of failed diagnostic work I got charged £230. Ouch! My local Mazda dealer offered little hope here, saying they could not test the ECU, and replacement for a test is difficult as the ECU is linked to the immobiliser and they had an MX-5 that had been in there for 7 weeks with an ECU problem that they couldn't solve!
  • VW Golf MK5 - NO POWER 10 Dec 2020 (Forum)
hi, I have a MK5 Golf 1.6 fsi (BLF) that has no power. it starts and runs fine but when you accelerate it is like the handbrake is on. I have scanned the ECU and come back with a P000A fault "A" camshaft position slow response ( bank1 ). I have replaced the timing chain and tensioner, camshaft position sensor, coils, spark plugs, oil and filters, and whilst the sump was off I cleaned out the oil pickup and checked the oil pump, all to no avail.
  • Car People: What On-Board Diagnostic (ODB) app/har 2 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I'm currently helping a guy who used a generic reader to diagnose a fault and he was given the code "HDI SID807 BR2" I explained that this isn't a fault code, but the part number for his ECU. We then progressed to the code P1A9C.  A quick Google told him that it related to the accumulator battery and stop-start system - two devices not even fitted to his car.
  • ford focus - ford focus 1.6 zetec petrol 2006 stuttering when c 19 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Hi my engine management light came on yesterday and my car has been stuttering when cold as soon as it's warm it goes away.the guy I bought it off has had lots of work done, renewed wires around ecu and one of his receipts says if problem comes back start with the lambda sensor.I've also read online about faulty icv.any ideas?
  • Ford Fiesta Zetec 1999 - High engine idle speed. VSS? 15 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Have experimented on a steep hill, bringing car to a halt [idle drops to 800 once stopped].....I then let the car roll forwards, and almost immedaitely the idle speed starts to rise to around 1100-1200 revs, dropping again as soon as the car is brought to a halt! Is this a faulty vehicle speed sensor, telling fibs to the ECU?
  • Honda FR-V - Honda FR-V poor acceleration 28 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Although it has 150bhp it really struggles to accelerate with any real power. Had it to a local garage and they've put the code reader on it and all the sensors are fine. The ECU light is not on. My father in law serviced it at the weekend so we are really stumped. The guy at the garage is really baffled by it so any thoughts would be really appreciated. Many thanks Richard
  • 97 Astra - overheating 13 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Wife has a 97 Astra, for the past couple of years its been cutting out when in heavy traffic when the temp gets 100 and wont restart for about 5 minutes then providing there are no more traffic delays it runs fine again. Just wondering its an ecu issue as the management light comes up before the engine cuts-out, have flushed the rad and car dos'nt run hot normally, have taken it to the local garage but their laptop dos'nt show any problems, any Ideas guys ?

  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.7 DTI Misfire when cold 1 Jan 2013 (Forum)
There are no fault codes, and according to live data the fuel delivery rate increases as it misses (basically I think the ECU is trying to compensate). When hot it's fine. P.S. could this have anything to do with the rev holding/rising to 1500rpm problem? Thanks.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 - Erratic fuel and temperature gauges 22 Jul 2012 (Forum)
At the same time the temperature gauge moves to a (more realistic) position. Is this an electrical problem, eg water in the ECU? I'd very much appreciate help. The car is operating normally - so far.
  • Vauxhall Meriva B - Bought a fairly new car from Salvage - warranty? 28 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I think if it goes on the ramp it is possible that they will notice its had an accident - it works fine just need to get the ECU reprogrammed and it's got a problem with error codes coming up - was wondering if its possible to use the warranty - it's less than a year old.
