  • Does fuel economy improve in winter ? 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Just wondering if fuel economy improves in colder weather or gets worse in winter if the same journeys are made. For me I noticed with petrol engine cars the fuel economy goes down in colder weather. Does this also apply with diesel engine cars or does this improve (air density etc) ?

  • American Diesel 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Is the quality of diesel in the USA still terrible? Or is the 'diesel boom' leading to better quality? I ask because VW diesels are the most popular there for cars (I think) so if they can run to hundreds of thousands of miles on what they sell there, our highly refined diesel should mean a very low stressed fuel system.

  • Passat b7 2.0tdi - Fuel filter replacement 7 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hi, Just did a fuel filter replacement a 2.0tdi. After searching some posts on the matter, i've heard that incorect air bleed of the fuel line could damage/ crack the hpfp. Most people say to unscrew the 5 bolts, remove old filter, clean housing and ad new filter after the housing is filled with clean diesel and avoid puting diesel through the center hole of the filter.

  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1995 1.5 Diesel engine problems - tud5 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I replaced the stop solonoid about 50 miles ago, but I'm not sure if a fault with that could cause these symptoms. More likely, I had not long filled up with a full tank of diesel (I definitely put the right fuel in!) before the problem started. Would contanimated fuel cause these problems? How would I check it? If so, can I get away with just draining the tank or would I have to empty all the lines too?

  • Mercedes C220 Diesel Pump 21 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Another thing is the engine runs on for 3-4 seconds after turning the ignition off. Took the car to local garage that specialises in MB and he put his test box on, the message : " FUEL INJECTION SHUT OFF VALVE" came up. The question is should I get the Fuel Injection Valve replaced or should I get a new diesel pump?
  • Mercedes ML250 - Help....Fuel System Needs Replacing? 14 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The car has been in to the main dealer 4 times, they have tried various things but failed to find the problem. They have just rang to say there are iron-filings in the fuel, this is caused by the some part of the fuel system (pump?) breaking up and must have been due to a mis-fuel (i.e. I’ve put petrol in a diesel engine) and a lack of lubrication. They say this is the cause of the stalling and the Mercedes warranty is obviously therefore invalid.
