  • Mitsubishi Carisma 4g92 - Oil 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi all A technical question with regard to spec of oil for the above car. On my last oil change I used ACEA A3/B4 AFI SL CF -  is this  okay ? The car has covered 107 000 miles about runs well - on tick over it sounds as sweet as a nut !! If I lift the oil filler cap the oil still looks very clean, even thought it was changed June 2012 Many Thanks Mark 193

  • Moving overseas....is it a ruse? 4 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I've seen an awful lot of car adverts on Autotrader/ebay etc where the owner claims to be moving overseas hence the sale of the car.. Is this just a fabrication/cover for the real reason for selling or do people think it is really true?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Possible smell of engine oil ? 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
When I lift the bonnet up on my car (which is a petrol) after I have used it, I think that I can smell engine oil in the hot air that rises from the top of the engine etc. Do you think that most cars have this sort of smell under the bonnet when they are hot and how would I tell if the rocker cover was leaking ?
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 2001 1.9 TDI making a quacking noise 22 Jul 2008 (Forum)
There is a quacking type noise coming from a part of the engine that sits under the left hand side of the plastic cover. I think this part has a diafram inside and when the pipe is taken off, the noise stops. It doesn't seem to affect the running of the car and only seems to make the noise when the weather is warm and the car has been running for a while.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1996 1.2 How to clear oil filler mayo? 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Daughter's new car - a hand-me down from Granny, has mayo under the filler cap and in the rocker cover. Not surprising for a car that only went a couple of miles twice a week. How best to clear the gunk? - I'm guess that changing the oil won't shift it?
  • CCTV camera footage - can you get access? 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Imagine you return to your car and found it has been vandalised. Maybe a smashed window or scratches. You notice a CCTV camera in the area. Can you get the footage covering the damage being done to the car? Or is it only available to the police?

I know this has been covered before, but can't find the thread on the forum search. Just received a ticket from a private parking control company for parking on a retail park car park but left the car for half hour when I went elsewhere.

  • Watchdog & XC90 fires 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Watchdog covered 4 x Volvo XC 90s (diesel) that had gone on fire. The owners's complaints centred around: The fact that the cars were 100% destroyed and could have endangered life. The fact that Volvo UK were not interested in investigating the cause with a view to possibly preventing further fires.
  • Warranty - read the small print 21 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I bought a warranty for my car to take over from where the manufacturer's one ran out. The items covered were pretty comprehensive and the price reasonable. It was only later, on studying the policy document in fine detail, that I came across the statement (in small print and buried quite a few pages in) to the effect that the car had to be serviced every 6,000 miles or six months, whichever came first.
  • Hands at 10 - 2 or 9 - 3 27 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The cover story in yesterday's Motoring Telegraph contains the following comment: In a car with airbags, the steering wheel should be held in the 9 - 3 position. If held at 10 - 2 and the airbag deploys, it could send your knuckles flying into your face at over 200 mph.
  • Disgusting scum 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
In the local news up here in the NE. Two teenagers in a stolen car ploughed into a pensioner waiting at a bus stop, killing him. Both occupants of the car said eachother was driving, with no witnesses to confirm who the driver was both get off scott free. Both scumbags shown on TV giving V signs to awaiting cameras outside of court after the verdict (whilst covering their faces to avoid ID) British justice.

  • Van tyres are tough! 25 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I read previous comments about how delicate car tyres are and how driving over curbs can ruin them. Realised for years I have been driving my van tyres over high curbs and accross rubbish covered building areas with no problems despite having economy brand tyres.
  • Seat Leon 1.6 24 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Going to order a Leon 1.6 tomorrow as my company car. Looked around at some of the alternatives for the price and none really meet my needs -6ft 5 and size 13 shoes! - smaller cars really aren't big enough to cover 17,000 per annum in comfort. Just thought I'd check with you guys that there wasn't anything 'better' that I should consider.
