  • Lumpy, rusting Micra 22 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Secondly, it is jerky in traffic in first and second gear, being hard to drive slowly as if it is either on or off. It reminded me of my old Mini which was like this - is this a common fault and due to the fuel injection programming, as I have heard? Is there any way around this?
  • Foglights and xenons 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Mind you, most cars do look better with some extra glassware on the front (not those 'orrible bonnet spotlights on the MINI though). And if you're a real plonker you can leave the switch on so that whenever you turn your lights on you have your fogs on too, showing the world you're a hard man that really means business and dazzling oncomers (with your lights' brilliance, not yours).
  • Safest Car on the Road 6 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Reading the mail this morning and it turns out that car your least likely to have a fatal accident in and with the lowest risk of having a any injury or any kind is a Land Rover Defender???!! The most unsafe car apparently is a mini which wasn't a suprise though. The research was done by the department for transport examining about 180,000 crashes. I have just mentioned this because it has been stated in previous threads that 4x4s are more unsafe than normal cars yet 7 out of 10 cars which were found to be the safest were 4x4s.
  • the most INTERESTING sub-group 10 car? 8 Jan 2003 (Forum)
A few examples I thought of were as follows: Ford Puma 1.4/1.7 BMW 316i Sport Compact (1998/9) New MINI One/Cooper possibly New Ford Fiesta 1.4 A/C Zetec 3dr VW Lupo GTI 1.6/1.4 Sport Audi A3 1.6 Sport Renault Megane coupe or Clio? Basically I wouldnt mind something a bit exclusive and that does 0-60mph in around 10 seconds or less Any ideas?
  • Bloody Indicate!!! 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Does anybody actually bother to use their indicators nowadays?! Picture what happened to me the other day. Approaching a mini roundabout intending to go straight ahead, hence no need to indicate, meanwhile another car travelling towards me is about to hit the rounabout and is not indicating, hence I presume he is also going straight over.
  • Search for small car 2 Jun 2001 (Forum)
She likes both performance and economy, of course, and she's comfortable only in something in the super-mini bracket (a Golf is too large). Oh, yes, it needs to accommodate a set of golf clubs easily. She'll be after something 3--5 years old on a budget of c. 5k, I guess. All suggestions welcome.
  • Mini Sony Nav-U70T satnav review 13 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I DID go to my room and think about what I've done, but now I've done that I'll let you know what it's like, as I couldn't find much in the way of reviews or other user reports, it being a new unit. So this is by way of a two day mini-first impression review, in case anyone is considering one. We preferred it to the Tom Tom unit. The screen was clearer somehow, and it's a nice looker. It probably doesn't have quite so many features as TomTom but to my mind that's an advantage.
  • MINI Cooper - Motability insurance - I was denied 18 May 2016 (Forum)
Hey, Recently we were offered a new car on the motability scheme (my mother is ill). I and my sister were going to be the drivers. My sister often...
  • Motoring & memory - how about you? 9 May 2009 (Forum)
I was perusing a Van magazine in Smiths and came across an article on a 60`s Mini Van. Now, memory would have the Mini Van as being quite a reasonable vehicle, at the time - and the 60`s DID seem like `modern times` didn`t they? At the time that is. But looking at a photo of the van now internally and there are thin little seats, everything pared to a functual basic.
  • New job, new car 6 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I will be starting a new job in a few months time, and instead of commuting 10 miles south on the M5, I will be travelling 2 miles up the road. I would like my 2011 Mini convertible to have a bit of a rest and become a second car for days off and holidays. So I am pondering a car for my short commute and local pottering. My budget is £6k. Something electric might be suitable as I have a big drive and can easily charge at home.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.4 Zetec - front suspension 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I know some cars have failed springs but thought it only made them sag a few inches. This looks like the old Mini hydralastic failure when the whole car drops down.
  • What sort of car do you drive? 15 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I'll start the ball rolling: 2009 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI estate SWMBO - 2009 Mini Cooper convertible And I'm lucky enough to have had a small windfall a couple of years ago and so have a 2001 BMW Z3 2.2 as a fun car. I live near Reading and I'm training manager for a large firm of accountants (so boring on two counts, trainer and accountant....).
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W204 (2007 -) - Lane Changing indicators 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
From new , my lane changing indicator function would only work say 9 times out of 10. It is supposed to flash the indicators 3 times (a bit like a BMW or Mini) and is vital on the Motorway. Well it didn't work as advertised so the switch gear was changed but with no improvement you can guess the Mercedes Benz response... "that's the way it is you have to live with it" Sure enough I had shown the same fault in a Brand New Car in the Showroom so I guess it's one problem that will cost MB money to fix.
  • Parkinson's & 3 year licence 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
By the way, new rules now dictate that although I can continue to drive, I am not permitted to drive mini buses nor anything above 3.5 tons.
  • 1600E,Spitfire et al - yesterdays heros surpassed 15 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I spent a few years in my youth with an 850cc Mini (a detuned van) and had basic cars for years. I had friends however who had a Spitfire and a Cortina 1600E. These were considered real performance cars by my mates at the time and it did certainly seem so.
  • New Car This Summer - Ideas 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I dont mind something a bit older (but not too much) and with a few more miles (Fiesta has 32000) as I wont be putting that much on. Budget Fiesta (£4500) + £2000ish. Curreent thoughts would be 52/03 Mini One with some extra kit. Any further thoughts?
  • Weekend driving 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Eeeeh when I were a lad - I used to hear people constantly going on about Sunday drivers I'm not sure if the phenomena still exists anymore or if it does...
  • Small horse van required 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Any suggestions for vans suitable for conversion, ready converted vehicles, or conversion companys would be welcomed. And before anyone suggests it, yes I know I can fit a "small horse" in a Mini van! ---------------------------------- Colin-E ----------------------------------
  • Automatic/Semi-automatic? 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi All Does anyone know how the DVLA categorises the semi-automatic vehicles now being sold? I'm thinking specifically of the Toyota Yaris MMT but there seem to be lots of new super minis where they dont offer a fully automatic version. Why do I need to know? I have an Automatic license. Its a long story but I cant face the trauma of retaking my driving test so please dont suggest it :) I'm not sure which of the new cars I'm legally allowed to drive.
  • BMW LL04 Now released (OIL) 11 Feb 2005 (Forum)
oil fulfils also the requirements for gasoline engines and is compatible with the existing ?Longlife-01? and ?Longlife-98? specification. ?Longlife-04? is also applicable in all MINI engines, except for engines demanding ?Longlife 01 FE?. I hope this is of interest and I'll keep you posted on availability for UK market. Cheers, Simon
