  • Road tax query 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It will be sold "on consignment" by a garage for me, and the log book will still be in my name until someone actually parts with the lolly. It will be stored off a road (and test drives taken with trade plates). Do I need to declare SORN, or as the car is not in my possession, just leave it? I'm not all that keen on an automated £80 fine.... Orson, using Mrs Orson's log in!
  • Best route into central London 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It's near Waterloo, and I'm travelling from Leamington Spa. As it's a bit late in the day for cheap rail, I was planning to drive most of the way and then park up and tube in the rest of the way. So, what in your opinion is the best place to stop/park and ride? My interview's at 14:30, so hopefully I'll be finished by rush hour (or just in time for it!).
  • Punctures and low profile tyres 14 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Well I've had two since Christmas. In both cases they have been caused by metal debris on the road. I am not driving any differently so the only explanations are: 1. I have been very unlucky. 2. The low profile tyres on my car are more susceptible to punctures. Have other people experienced this?
  • Passat tiptronic and towing 7 Mar 2006 (Forum)
As my leg will be in pot for the next few weeks after damaging my achilles, I have traded my manual Passat for a 2004 PD 130 Highline with tiptronic. The car has done 34,000 miles, many of which have been done towing a caravan. It drives well and has been properly serviced but I am a little worried that there may be problems in store from gearbox/brakes/engine. Any suggestions as to what I should look out for?
  • Older Drivers 17 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Living as i do in Bournemouth we have probably more elder rivers than other places (I am one-mid 70's). I do think we should be made to take a simple test to ensure we are still able to drive effectively. Filling in the form to say we are fit in the licence application is really not enough. How many of us has read the Highway Code since we passed our test(1952 i my case).

  • Insurance cost 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
On top of that, for new PO customers, there is a £50 cashback bonus. This means that for this year, my insurance will cost £38 I might be an old codger driving a (nice) old Volvo with a full no claims bonus, but if you're a cherry, the PO is more than willing to pick you.
  • Toyota Camry 2.0 gli 1990 petrol 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My 2.0L 16v injection Toyota Camry, was working absolutely fine until this afternoon on a drive to blackpool, the oil light came on and the car stopped running completely, I checked the oil and there's plenty in there, the anti-freeze is fine as are all lubricants in the engine so I'm at a complete loss why it won't even turn over.
  • Omega Tyres 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I've previously used cheapo tyres & each time as the wear rate indicator starts to show the dreaded tramlining becomes more prominent until eventually its to dangerous to drive. I've read all the threads but I can't see that anyone has found a satifactory tyre that is quite & does'nt tram, apart from the NCT 5's. Anyone got any comments?
  • Has anyone used ldlines? 5 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Now that P&O have pulled out of Portsmouth to Le Havre, I was wondering what the ldlines operator were like with their one service a day. Otherwise I was thinking of driving over to Dover and going on Sea France or even the tunnel.
  • Snowchains 31 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I'm off on a skiing trip to France at the end of Jan and will be taking my car for the first time. I drive a 2004 Alhambra TDi. Can anyone recommend the best snowchans to use and where I might get them? I don't want to spend a fortune and in fact will be saying goodbye to the car within a fortnight of the trip so renting may be an option.
  • peugeot 306 electrical problem 17 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Recently as i was driving along my stereo suddenly cut off(which wont come back on) and the central locking stopped working. I thought must be electrical problem, however the horn, lights and electric windows still work. For the first time when i turn engine on and off both indicators flash once or twice which never happened before.
  • Peugeot 306 1.4 (1998) 10 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The only clue is that the rev counter dies when the idle speed starts to vary. She now has the car back but it is no fun to drive!!
  • What car to buy for 5.5K ? 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I'd be very grateful for some advice about what car to buy with a budget of £5500. I'm driving approx 20,000 motorway miles per year, so fuel economy and safety are my main requirements. Any suggestions for what to buy ? Am very tempted by the Smart Fortwo, but don't know whether it would be much fun on the motorway ????.

Generally it drives perfect with no misfire or lack of performance, but as soon as you slow down to idle speed just below 1000rpm it stalls. It starts up every time but cuts out at idle. Any ideas on the source of the problem and were to look, many thanks.

  • Middle Lane Hoggers 24 Oct 2005 (Forum)
How do you deal with people hogging the middle lane? I was driving down the M23 on Sunday morning and was amazed at the driver of a red Ford Escort Estate. He sat in the middle lane for at least 10 miles whilst people overtook him and then moved over from outside lane to inside lane to "show" him where he should be.
  • gold focus saloons 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Not other colours, just gold. Three today alone! There are two for sale around here (Essex), and I saw another one driving along the A127. I'm beginning to be a little concerned that there is some kind of conspiracy at work, probably led by Adam... Alex (looking over my shoulder for gold focus saloons...) -- Dr Alex Mears Seat Leon Cupra If you are in a hole stop digging...unless you are a miner.
