Traffic police cuts linked to road death 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
One notable statistic is that the number of dedicated traffic officers in 2001-02 was just under 6,500 but 8,900 ten years before. (Not added to the speeding or speed camera threads because it touches on issues wider than that.) -
new road tax disc style 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Is this just a 'smart' way of reducing theft thereof or are there more sinister 'big brother' monitoring issues? Would a roadside camera be able to read the bar code? If yes, would I be commiting an offence if I obscured just the bar code when the disc is attached to the windscreen? Perhaps I am just being paranoid. -
Disgusting scum 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Both occupants of the car said eachother was driving, with no witnesses to confirm who the driver was both get off scott free. Both scumbags shown on TV giving V signs to awaiting cameras outside of court after the verdict (whilst covering their faces to avoid ID) British justice. Blair hang your head in shame (tough on crime......etc.....). I give up. -
Fixed Penalties for Parents 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Newsreader said it would be based on the fixed penalty system that targets motorists. What next, speed cameras in the corridors to stop children from running in them ;-) rather than the Mr Bronson monstor bawling at the little darlings "you boy, do not run in the corridor." As always, tackle the problem with penalties rather than education. -
Makes you smile 10 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Homer and his family were on safari in Africa and Marge and the kids were shouting with excitement at all the animals strolling across the savannah with a huge setting sun behind them. And what did Homer do? He got his camera out and took a picture of the jeeps speedo-the mileometer had just clocked up 10000 exactly and he thought that was much better!! Made me laugh :0) -
No more traffic police????? 22 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Just saw a post on the UK Speedtraps Forum from SS which says that, according to a report in Motorcycle News this week ( Page 6) Notts are to scrap their Traffic Police Division and rely solely on speed cameras. Can this crazy idea be true? No doubt all will become clear in the fullness. If this is correct, then it shows that they are not interested in road safety and taking dangerous and drunken drivers off the road. -
Any - Bit of a delicate subject 25 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Tricky to type this tbh, being over sixty now recently done my annual bowel cancer test thing , came back and it appears they've found something, in hospital Monday for the camera up the posterior, not looking forward to it tbh, light diet and no alcohol from tonight, I know its a delicate subject but has anyone been though similar? Is it really as uncomfortable as I imagine? -
Dash cam wiring 2 May 2025 (Forum)
I have not yet decided which cam to buy but I would like to know that I don't have to hide miles of wire when I do make my mind up. I only want a forward facing camera and quite like the look of Viofo 119 2 Thanks in advance -
60MPH on the motorways 28 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Highways are looking at trialling 60mph zones on urban areas of the motorway system with a view to reducing pollution and improving the health of people affected by gases being emitted by cars and HGVs Here in Wales there are already 2 areas of the M4 subjected too average speed cameras set at 50mph. How much this reduces pollution is any ones guess but from my observation it causes more bunching and braking of traffic especially as they hit the zones. These zones once started will be with us forever. -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 21-07-2018 Part 2 3 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I had the temerity to return to the store on the same day, but outside of the no return within 4 hours. camera pcked up 1st entry and 2nd departure. Luckily I had also purchased something elsewhere using the car. -
VW Touran - Contempt? 28 Jul 2012 (Forum)
My vehicle has been caught in a mobile speed camera a few hundred yards from my home (49 in 40 alledgedly) however we genuingly cannot confirm if it was my wife or I that was driving we were moving equipment from home into my new office and must have made 20+ trips between us on this road. -
SD Cards 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Last weekend was our daughters 16th .My wife bought her a sealed pack of SD cards for her digital camera from a supermarket. Last night I transferred all the photos she had taken onto our computer. The first half dozen photos were of scenery in a mountain range , not professionally taken, and a shot of a person in the last picture. -
Motoring pictorial quiz - find supporting evidence 15 Apr 2009 (Forum)
http://www.oilrag.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pic1.jpg (Image valid for 1 week and sorry not to re-size it. I`m learning on the Eee pc 701SD and this was taken with a camera, not the usual G600 phone that I usually use for producing a lower size image for the Web) Regards -
Good Use for Google Earth Streets 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
When it came up, with turn by turn directions, on the left of the screen, many of the turns called for had a camera symbol beside them, between the route instruction and distance stated. Clicking on this symbol gives a Street View of the turn, as seen by the driver of a car going along the route. Useful for route planning but not while driving! -
Using an inverter. 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Charging things from the inverter when going along, and using low-powered accessories (150W max.) is fine - however, I noticed that the toothbrush charger - the sort that you plug in and the brush "sits" on - gets pretty hot - much hotter than when using "normal" mains electricity at home. Why does this get so (relatively) hot? Is there a danger of using other chargers (camera, telephone...) from an inverter? -
Rectangular painted marks on the road ? 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have a dim and distant recollection that they were sonething to do with providing a static measurement 'place' for calculating motoring speeds but, if this is the case, why are they are still in evidence in the day of the mobile speed camera vans. Can anybody assist please ? Ian -
Uninsured drivers 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
If they insure and then cancel surely this should be flagged up and investigated. As we have all the cameras checking for valid car tax why can't it be linked in to the insurance as well? I really don't understand why this is so hard for the authorities to implement. Andyfr -
Do the speed warning signs bother you? 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This may rapidly degenerate in to the Speed Cameras thread but do the 'flashy flicker' (showing my age there) LCD signs saying 'Warning X Speed Limit Slow Down' bother you at all? First time I activated one I nearly soiled my underpants but now they are just another part of the driving landscape and I ignore them except for the occasional though of what a waste of money. -
Australian Speeding Tickets 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Just got back from a holiday in Oz and 2 speeding tickets have now arrived from Queensland police. One from a mobile camera and the other from a Gatso. Neither picture they have sent shows who is driving and there were 2 authorised drivers in the hire car. How do I stand if I ignore these? I don't intend to visit Oz again but I don't know what action they may take in UK if I don't pay. -
personal regs spacing 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I know DVLA make money on selling but it appears lack of traffic police means they can get away with murder. ALSO really dirty rear plates (presumably to avoid speed cameras identification). Is this a police matter THANKS
