  • Bye Bye Micra - trade to dealer? 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It will soon be all change in the S household. It's time to move on my wife's 99T Micra and I was wondering what price I could expect if sold it privately and what attitude/price I could expect from a dealer if traded for a newer machine - possibly a Pug 406 coupe from main dealer.
  • I Have a Question Volume 64 4 Feb 2005 (Forum)
If I concentrate, I can hear the pump humming (don't recognise the tune), but SWMBO says she hears it all the time and its driving her, and she me, crazy. Hope someone can give me some new ideas to identify problem(s).
  • Another Renault Clio starting problem 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have been reading the earlier articles about Coolant Temperature Sensors getting corroded and causing faulty readings. But I'm not totally sure whether this is the same problem. When cold my clio (which is a 1998 S-reg 1.6 RXE) starts fine, but, if I drive somewhere then leave it for half an hour or so, when I come to restart, the engine starts, but idles at very low revs, almost stalling, and very shaky. It happened again today, and I let it run for about 5 minutes, didn't seem to get much better, but managed to drive back to work, at first it seems very reluctant to accelerate at it's usual rate, and then it suddenly kicked into action.
  • UK drivers paying too much for parts 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
If it was done on parts with a much higher replacement frequency then, I know, the disparity would be a lot less. Higher volume parts, such as filters and brake parts are where all the sales revenue is so that?s where all the pricing effort goes in matching the competition. Meaningful parts price research is based upon these basics: Selection of high volume models Selection of high replacement frequency parts Prices obtained from a representative selection of outlets for an equivalent quality and content part Good to read but you are hardly shopping round for an air conditioning compressor each year are you?
  • Peugeot 106 ticking noises 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm not bothered about a bit of extra noise as apparently the TU series engines weren't the quietest of things when first made anyway. Also, any pointers of what else to watch out for on 106's in general? Thanks in advance Ben
  • Fitting Intercooler to Pug 306 HDi 90 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)

  • Tarrant & Bentley - London ITV 5 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The bentley went up on the 500 metres of the Weybridge bank (its very hard to stand on it at the top its that steep) Then via Woking to Farnham where they enacted the first traffic prosecution (happened in Farnham apparently) Man fined for driving at 9mph exceeding the then 4mph (2mph in towns) speed limit. Ending up in Basingstoke where they decried the 1960's destruction of a quaint market town for the concrete hell that is modern Booringstoke. Next week its London to Oxford.

  • Honda-wobbly brake calliper 23 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The rear n/s brake calliper can move up and down by about 3mm or so. It rummbles quite a lot over poor road surfaces.Ie. practically all B class roads in this country! It is a single piston type. The play seems to be where the two sliding pins enter their respective sockets on the caliper bracket.
  • 5 Series BMW No Start 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My S reg. 5 Series BMW Touring has an intermittent - could be 2/3 times a week - no start problem. I switch on the ignition and all the panel lights up as normal. Turn the key to the start position and absolutely nothing happens - no clicks, no whirring noises, no dimming of lights.

  • Beware of the Hun in the Sun 9 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Now we are once again in the season of mists, mellow fruitfulness and low sun it has echoes for today?s motorists. My trip to work involves emerging from a very minor road onto a less minor road at the top of a blind summit. There are ample warning signs and SLOW's in the less minor road. View to left (east) this morning straight into sun.
  • Ferrarri; 2nd-hand 2+ 2 for retirement 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I'd be very grateful for your views on anything relevant to this. For example, are they priced lower because the market doesn't like oldish ( 1970's - 1980') 2+2s Ferraris ?
  • Bodykit - spin-off thread 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Over the years motor manufacturers have been guilty of producing their own dubious styling mods on high-performance versions of their ordinary models - in effect the factory-built Kev-car. Think of those high double aerofoils on the back of some 80's fast Fords - was it the Sierra XR4i or the Mk1 Cosworth Sierra? What about the Rover Streetwise? Even Porsche have made some outlandish additions to some of their 911-based models. OK, these were genuine fast cars, but a 160mph dog's dinner is just as ugly when it's parked as a 95mph dog's dinner.
  • Chipped 156 JTD 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Many grins have been had, especially when the twonk in a fiesta van in the inside lane tried to pull out into the side of me earlier this evening. The Bora up my backside made braking a poor option and the o/s was the usual camel train so I just booted it (75 in 5th). In the time it took for the twonk to complete his ill-advised manouvere, I had pulled clear, leaving a rather dazed Bora driver and a totally oblivious van driver.
  • Windscreen scratches - 2002 Polo 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
We have noticed that our windscreen has thousands of fine scratches where the wiper blades go. We\'d never noticed that on our previous car, although on the new car it\'s only noticeable with oblique lighting (street lights at night or low sun). Could it just be because the screen is less upright than on the old car, or have we got a problem? For information: The car is a 2002 Polo, the windscreen has been replaced twice (once because of the scratching, but with no admission of liability, and once because of vandalism).
  • MINI Adventure. Tyre press.warning light 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Friend of mine has a 51 Reg MINI Cooper. Went back to BMW due to a grinding noise on front wheels at low speed. Having looked in HJ\'s C-by-C breakdown I find it should have been re-called for front suspension. Mechanic claims to know nowt. Looks it up on computer and sure enough it should have been. Goes back in a week later due to parts not in garage.
  • Have A Brake Problem! Please Help 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have a shadow 1 (1972) with a brake problem that I am unable to solve. Can anybody give me any advice please? I replaced the two n/s/r flexi brake pipes closest to the calliper. Unfortunately there was a fluid leak o/night which emptied both reservoirs. On bleeding the system fluid was drained on both rears until no air was evident, however the brake pedal travels to the floor still.

Whinge away in that thread if you like, but please refrain from starting new ones.
  • leaking 205 22 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My girlfriends car (1991 peugeot 205 grd with the vacuum operated sunroof) has started to leak into the footwells and the metal depression where the rear seats sit (i.e. making the rear seats completely s**den). The water seems to be leaking into both footwells pretty much evenly. In addition to this after leaving the car for some time and then driving it again, the handle which operatesthe sunroof mechinism starts to drip water all over the people in the front seat. i've checked the sunroof channels using a watering can and they seem to be draining to the right place (just behind the front wheels and just behind the back wheels). des anyone have any ideas/tips for trying to locatethis very annoying leak. i cant find any obvious reason as to where the water is coming from.
