Jaguar XJS 3.6 - ? Head Gasket failure 17 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hello All. I have a 1991 XJ-S coupe auto. Got it 8 mths ago and run it occasionally. It had previously been laid up for just under a year, but fired up and ran fine. I have restored the interior (was very damp due to leaking screen and door seals). -
To diesel or not to diesel, that is the question 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Is there a petrol car of around 150bhp which anyone can recommend? I would like to see economy in the mid to late 40's if I can -

Audi, Land Rover, BMW etc make designers redundant 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
The dashboard will be nicked from another model in the range to reduce costs Finally, to simplyfy model designations each model will go as Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large or Extra, Extra Large or S/M/L/XL,XXL for short. Sadly, imagination and creativity has gone. BL was so good at making all their cars look totally different apart from the Micholetti Triumphs, which pre-dated today's Russian doll design language. -

BMW 320d - Seized brake calliper 13 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The n/s front brake calliper recently seized. The first and only symptoms were juddering at 60-70 when I immediately slowed down to a smooth 30-40. I drove about 10 miles home like this and a further slow 10 miles a few days later to a garage for repair. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo/Vectra 2005 - petrol or diesel? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The old faithful s-reg Mondeo petrol estate is still running like a swiss watch, but the rust and tyre situation probably means that funds to nurse it through the Mot would be better spent elsewhere. we are usually short runs (10 miles return) with occasional big trips, but like the comfort of a car Mondeo/Vectra sized - hatchback slightly preferable for the supermarket car park. :-) . -
Credit unions or wonga 24 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Reading the above ,they are going into liquidation at the rate of one a month because of bad debt .These poor oppressed individuals who are so badly treated by the likes of wonga ,won't repay their debts even when it's at a low rate .From premises that are subsidised by local authorities . In a previous post ,I asked would you lend your money to wonga,s customer . As a credit union goes into liquidation ,the depositors are guaranteed by the taxpayer up to £85,000 . The end result is that as a taxpayer your not lending your money ,your giving it away . -
Mercedes W124 - Gearbox swap from manual to auto 11 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Does anyone have experience of swapping a manual gearbox with an auto box on a W124? I love W124's and am considering buying an Indian import, but do not like manual boxes. The car would see me to the end of my days, so re-sale is not a problem. I had a 1994 W124 1994, in 2000 and replaced it with an E Class V6 240 estate in 2007 and regretted it from Day One. -
Ford Mondeo 2002 Zetec TDDI - Drive Shaft or Gear Problem 21 Jul 2013 (Forum)
The noise is still there but it is not as loud as it was this morning. I went to the mechanics and they suggest it O/S Drive Shaft problem and CV boot and they have quote me 200 pounds to get the work done. I think it can be the gear because its only making noise when i am changing the gear. Car doesnt make any other noise on the corners or regular driving. -
MAZDA 323F - MAZDA 323F SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL 15 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Basically the car sounds like a Diesel, although the car still drives ok, the water and temp are fine, the oil is still at the right level etc...however i hace been told it may be the type of oil in the car that is the problem, I am going to change the oil this weekend and see if it makes any difference, but thought I would ask on here first just in case anyone knows of any known issues or similar issues with mazda's or 323's? Thanks Nick -
Ford Focus v Volvo S40 - which to choose? 3 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Having agonised over a new (2nd hand new that is) car for a few months I have to make a choice this week betrween a 59 plate Focus 1.8 TDci and a 58 plate Volvo S40 2.0D S. I like the way they both drive, the Focus probably having the edge in terms of excitement (let's face it you'd never call a Volvo exciting would you?) but the S40 feels like a solid motor that you could run forever. -
Landrover Td5 - 35 in a 30 on Maybray Kingway A3204 Southampton. 26 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I had never driven on that road before, and I am SO p***ed off as all the subliminal signs, (built like a motorway) plus the fact that all the single built up roads to that spot are posted as 40's, I feel like going in front of the beak, and trying to see if he/she would see reason. I saw the camera and was dawdling, and was v surprised when it flashed, but even more so to get a NIP for 35. -
Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi 2002 - Head light Correcion Unit 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
When i tried to adjust the beam with the button/scroller nothing happened. I popped the bonnet and the Valeo PA6.6-GF30 unit in the n/s headlight which controls the under/down direction of the light, was buzzing. I have now got a replacement unit and was wondering how I remove the faulty unit and replace it with the new one? I have tried to remove the one in situ by turning the unit clockwise hoping it would pop out but the unit still seems to be attached to something as when I gentle pull it it stays in place and seems to be connected to the back of the lights. -

Points on your license 29 Jul 2011 (Forum)
This, from my local area: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-14338331 There are over 400 people in Lancs and S. Cumbria driving around with points on their licenses exceeding the maximum 12 supposedly allowed. This isn't just where I live; there's about 600 people in Manchester alone in the same situation. -
All - Open Windows Cost More Than Air-con 11 Jul 2011 (Forum)
They can recharge your air con for only £49 so you don't have to fritter away the £££s by driving with your windows down. I've seen a couple of tests in car and driver that suggest that driving withthe window ajar has no noticeable effect-even at 60mph+, whereas the air compressor pump does have a noticeable effect. -
How many miles can you squeeze from 1 tank? 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
How much is left in the tank at this stage I have no idea. I have to say I am a little dissapointed with this, as my old S-reg 1.8 Mondeo would easily do 550 miles, often with some town driving included, so I always thought I could squeeze 600 out of it, but never quite managed it! How much can you get? -
Ford Everest - Using a Solar Trickle Charger in the OBD Socket 25 May 2011 (Forum)

My questions are: 1) is it a good idea to use a solar trickle charger that plugs into the OBD socket?
