Mondeo diesel TDCi auto power loss 24 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The correspondence on starting problems on Mondeo and Focus brought a comment on diesel knock at 2,000 rpm. That problem hit my Mondeo at 700 miles and the dealer has run a diagnostic check and found the earth error (corrected). They also loaded the latest Mondeo software module. No improvement. Dealer is getting the car again this Wednesday. The real problem is the loss of power. -
Thanks to all on the A390 East Cornwall 19 Feb 2005 (Forum)
So, unloading and loading is a bit of a lottery with traffic etc. I have to pull up on the other side of the road opposite the property and run the gauntlet of light controlled traffic. I have to say I am amazed at the patience shown by the drivers. Drivers of goods vehicles of all shapes and sizes are the most helpful but car drivers without exception on this job have been courtious. -
Lady owner.............so what?!!! 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Every time I read a classified car advert and I come across the phrase 'lady owner' I just immediately lose interest and skip along to the next ad. My mind fills with things such as the school run, kids with their mucky feet all over the seats, doors getting flung open against other cars/fences/walls etc by careless brats, spilt drinks and food, scuffed wheels and other damage from parking attempts, under bonnet fluid levels that have never seen the light of day etc, etc. -
Honda Accord tyre noise 26 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Noise levels in and around town were much improved but not at higher speeds. Not sure to revert to the standard 15 inch alloys with 195/65 R15 or try to find a tyre they will run quieter on the 17 inch alloys than the current Bridgestones. I have heard that Continental tyres are very quiet albeit soft and wear out quicker. At the moment I am leaning towards going for the 15 inch tyres and although this would lose some grip should give me a quietr ride over the 17 inch wheel size. -
The Mobile Phone thread, volume III 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I feel like stopping and asking the person behind why I am the lucky person to be selected to be followed by an idiot like him/her who is in danger of running into my car - but I'd probably get slotted ! Any thoughts ? Leedsdriver -
£5k Mondeo from auction 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Looking at buying a Mk3 Mondeo from auction. Budget is approximately £5k and the car purchased will be run until the end of its useful life, so residual value and resale prospects are a complete non-issue. Not shy to high mileage if the Mk3 is as a solid as the Mk2. Ideally I am after a Ghia X, either a 2.0 or a 2.5 V6, no preference. -
Computer related questions. Volume 37 10 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi I'm currently running Windows 95 on my backup PC. This is constructed from an old AMD-K6 166MHz. Unfortunately this system is very unstable. I've had to add a PCI IDE card to support a larger HDD and this conflicts with the BIOS which wants to rip it of all it's IRQ resources. -
Fiesta 1.8 Diesel (Bad Starting) 28 Dec 2004 (Forum)
because mine does not move at all, even when starting from cold. When I do get it started, if i hold the revs at say 2500, it sometimes just stops running. Is this indicative of an air leak? Regards -
01Y Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SE+ 21 Dec 2004 (Forum)
(Probably one for Aprilia) As you probably know, I run a 95N Nissam QX 3.0 SE with 140k miles. I know mine has emission problem so will need fixing for MoT next May, plus I am seeing surface rust appearing on the underside. My major worry is reliability and safety, but I also want great performance. -
Vectra C rear brakes 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
When I brake and gently come to a standstill the rear wheels make that noise similar to a dinghy being pulled along wet sand! but the brake action is positive and there is no squealing. What puzzles me is why they would run down so quickly. Most of my miles are motorway - daily 100 mile round trip involving very little braking. The rear brakes are not binding (The car always averages the quoted 32.3 - 32.5 mpg and the rear wheels never get hot). -
Audi A4 or Ford Mondeo 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I am looking for a galvanised body and ‘rock solid’ durability and don’t want any rust issues whatsoever. Is the Audi able to deliver this? Do the general running costs and extra parts costs make it a bad option? I am only looking to spend between £2,000 and £4,000 is the A4 a worthwhile consideration in this price range. Any opinions or prior experiences would be much appreciated. -
Ripped off...perhaps. 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Total cost - including labour etc, over 300 pounds. Now, I collected the car last night and it was running fine until I got up this morning, went to start the engine, and lo and behold the problem seemed to still be there. It would not start. What im wondering is, when I go back to collect the car on monday, what if the problem hadn't been overfuelling in the first place and Ive spent all that money on nothing. -
How long can it be left? (any car) 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It'll probably be left for about a week at a time. So the question is, how long could it be left without a run? And what are the problems if its left too long? The chances are that when it does get used, it'll be for journeys of about 20 minutes, mainly by dual carriageway. When I used it to go to college, it was used once a week, and didn't have much trouble. -
'2nd Car' insurance 21 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I have phoned a few other insurance companies and all say the same - some have quoted even higher. When we first started running two cars in 1994, this did not happen. I am pretty sure that we were offered a '2nd car insurance policy' with the same NCD as our existing car. Can anyone suggest the cheapest way to insure our '2nd car' - a £600 1991 Volvo 940 GL estate? -
Replacement for Britain's worst car! 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Also I am fed up of paying over the odds for small cars (for example 'N' reg Fiestas always seem to be about £500 more expensive than an 'N' reg Mondeo. Money is an issue still so I am looking for something that wont be horrendous to keep running. Any ideas? -
Tyre query - Passat 11 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The 1999 Passat TDI Sport runs 205/60/R15 tyres, which seems to be a funny old size - not especially common and a bit pricey. My question is this: is the '60' measurement fixed based on the wheel being used? I.e. could I conceivably use tyres of a different 'profile' measurement? -
Suspension of Insurance Policy??? 10 Oct 2004 (Forum)
When I bought my new van I tried to get cover transferred from my old vehicle to the new one, but the policy would not cover vans less than 2 years old. Hence with 3 months left to run on the old policy I have left it on the old vehicle and have now forked out for a new policy on the new vehicle. The old van goes on Saturday and I want to approach the insurers about suspending the remainder of the policy so it can be used up at a later date, when my van is more than two years old perhaps. -
Children are the new cyclists? 4 Oct 2004 (Forum)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,175-1256235,00.html Some study has suggested that drivers should have to pay for any collision involving children regardless of fault. Isn't this going to lead to more stupid kids playing chicken, getting run over and suing drivers rather than just getting a good slap for being so stupid? Talk about reverse evolution! I was taught to never, ever, ever step into the road without looking first. What are they teaching kids today? -
Classic-car insurance 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Specialist Car Division (big ad in MB Club mag this month) 01277 206911 Norton Insurance: Heritage classic car cover 0121 246 6060 Peter Best (affilated to the MB Club) 01376 573033 AON 01384 552789 Classic policies are often limited to 5000 miles annually, but AON's underwriter offered to ignore that limit when I talked to them the other day -- I've been enjoying my Capri so much that I've run out of miles (it has been with Specialist Car Division, as have my other cars, because it has proved to be a very competitive source). I also see that Norton's scale goes to 7500 and beyond. If anyone knows of other sources, I'd like to know, as the Capri policy needs renewing at the end of the month. -
2002 - Punto 1.2 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Would it be covered by a)the cars warranty, b)the parts warranty on the fitted pads, c)I have to pay for it and if so is it expensive? Or could it be a lubricant probelm? Also, on the service my rear bushes were running dry (a common probelm I believe) they regreased them under warranty, but the problem has come back. The noise comes a goes (especially when it is wet, the noise stops) but when it is dry it reappears.
