  • Peugeot 406 1998 TD over revving 22 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My 1998 Peugeot 406 TD has begun to over rev on start up although it seems to resolve when the engine has been running. It will also rev up when, for example, stopped at traffic lights or when stopped with the engine running in a queue of traffic. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a cure. I have an MOT (Northern Ireland style) on the 01/09/2005.

  • Best Off Road for £6000 4 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I need a (relatively) cheap & reliable off roader (most urban but light occasional off road use), no towing required. To save on running cost I am thinking of getting a diesel (2.0 to 3.0 engine). I have been put off Ford Maverick (too thirsty) & Freelander (running costs). Can anyone suggest any good ones? Cheers & happy New Year to all Old Bill

  • Air conditioning in Oct '97 Ford Mondeo 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My Dad has an Oct '97 Ford Mondeo 1.8, and every time he switches the air conditioning on, the car appears to "judder" and runs very unevenly. As soon as it is switched off, it reverts back to running smoothly. It's been checked out by a Ford dealer, who says "surging" is normal when the air conditioning is switched on and off.

  • Vauxhall Ecotec 19 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I posted a topic a while ago re running on of 1.8 16v Ecotec engine. Much time has been spent since trying to sort this to no avail. I have found that the injectors continue to pulse when the engine is turning, even after the ignition has been turned off, but the running on can be stopped by disconnecting the crank sensor.
  • VAG TDi turbo problem 24 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My 112000 mile A4 (1Z engine) has developed an intermittently running turbo. It sounds normal when it runs, it nearly always works at first but at some point it packs up and doesn't start again during that journey. It may have gone 2 miles or 100 before it stops giving boost.
  • perpetual motion car. 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
i am working on a car that is driven by perpetual motion, the only problem is that the does a top speed of 37 mph, i cant get the car to go any slower (37 - mph in a 30 zone means alot of speed tickets), i also cant get it to brake (the engine is always doing 37mph), the good thing is that it costs nothing to run the car. the other thing is a car run by air power. what do people think???
  • Granada Scorpio 21 May 2001 (Forum)
Hi HJ, The cleaning out of the throttle body has solved the surging problem and she is running better than ever. I am amazed that the main dealer did not know to do this. New prob. With the ignition on the window washers deliver a powerful jet of water. When the engine is running the water pressure only just about manages to hit the screen.

  • Expensive Mercedes? 24 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Apart from that it's been the usual tyres, brakes, servicing and usual mot things, wipers, bushes etc. I can't say Mercs have been more expensive to run than the other cars I have had and apart from the clk 320 petrol which drank like a camel but was great to drive they have been very economical. The clk went 5 years ago for the slk and is still running around on a w plate.
  • Running older vehicles, 8 - 12 years old 29 Aug 2018 (Forum)
No prizes for guessing whats failing on my current car.  Does anyone have any experience of running any of these vehicles?  I am quite keen on the RAV, what should I be expecting in the terms of repair bills?
  • VW Golf 1.6td se DSG 2013 - Cold Start issues 21 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Even the stop-start refuses to disengage the cold start, yet when I manually with key turn off and on it cuts out the cold start. This I observed when it is around 3c or lower.  otherwise, car runs fine, 55mpg on a run, no misfires or hesitations of any sort.  Does the cold start activate the DPF? Car runs on a diet of ASDA, Sainsbury's, BP, Shell and ESSO. OIl is changed every 7-8k, using VW Quantum: 5w30 Long Life.
