  • Car options/prices across Europe 19 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Frightening differences, it might be the first time I've been convinced about the advisability of importing your own car. Mark. p.s. if there is a lump of garbage in the middle of this, it was my failed attempt at an active link.
  • Insane? 6 Dec 2001 (Forum)
We are both spending just over 20 grand this month, me on a very modest 2 bedroom house, him on a BMW 3 series (imported from Germany via the internet). Fair enough, his BMW will look good and turn heads and my new house won't, but in five years time my house will hopefully be worth what I paid for it and his BMW will be worth 5 grand-ish.
  • Second hand CRX 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I've got a friend who's looking to spend ~£5k on a second hand car. She wants something sporty, but doesn't fancy taking a chance with a shabbered (import) MX-5. She's saying she quite likes the Honda CRX (new version) and there's a good few to be found at £4-5k. Does anyone else have any suggestions for alternative options, or experiences with the car?
  • Prices! 8 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Being a suspicious sort of guy (i.e. cynical) I want to know more. Has anyone bought through this type of firm? What are pros and cons? Are they grey imports? What about UK specifications, warranties and servicing? Any advice will be appreciated!
  • Struggling on which used car to buy next 28 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I can't make up my mind what to choose next. I have £5K, will take mileage up to 100K. Things I like about the CXP that are important to me and influence the next car I buy are: - The low windows in the back means my children get a good view out and motion sickness has all but disappeared - very important as they used to hurl everywhere
  • Nissan Cube - Help me choose the right Cube 3 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Okay guys give me some feedback on this, please. I live in Japan so these cars would be import only over there. I have narrowed my search to two cars, both Cubes. This is the first one. It has pretty badly stained back seats and a large worn-through patch on the carpet in the back (you can see a bit in the pictures).

Re Premium fuels. “Particularly important with a Gasoline Direct Injected engine because instead of being injected over the inlet valves the fuel is injected directly so the inlet valves miss the detergent effect of the fuel and can become coated in carbon.”
  • Any - Top 10 Most reliable hatcbacks....are you sure? 11 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Thats not how I would judge reliability. Breakdowns over a year or per 10k miles are surely better measures. Cost of repair is important but its its not in itself a measure of reliability.
  • Spares availability - Warranty Claims 19 Feb 2018 (Forum)
The activator system which pumps up the bench seizes air leaks fluid and has been returned to the manufacturer by the local factor three times. Tried the importers technical department and they were not forthcoming about warranty period or even the length of time they need to keep parts under EC law. They claim 12 months and that's them covered and we have exceeded this by 12 months.
  • Used car advice 10 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I'm looking for something with great economy as I cover around 24k per year, some style and a strong engine as I enjoy driving enthusiastically. The number of seats isn't too important, but I would prefer something with a decent boot. Ideally, I'd like to spend £6-7k, but a little more could be feasible if needed. What's out there? Thanks in advance.

  • ANY - Suggestions But comfort 1st 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
It's that time coming around again, I would like in my next car, Comfort 1st 2nd and 3rd qualities, petrol, preferably manual but not against a proper auto, not a "low" driving position, under manufacturers warranty, approx 1 year old, mid range and not too small. french/italian/vag need not apply. no dsg type thingys either. Comfort is the priority. engine size not important but no small turbos, no funny sized wheels. mileage not high enough to justify diesel, and day to day usage minimal. (swmbo is within 5 min walking distance of work now)
  • Confusing appearance with quality. 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I do appreciate that it's a pity, that both good form and function don't always go together, but which is more important - initial showroom appeal or a long lasting quality build? It would be nice to have both, but I know which I would choose, and maybe the tester would also if they were spending their own money!
  • Honda Jazz - Next generation Honda Jazz - no European build 4 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Can't imagine that with the unfavourable exchange rate between the Yen and European currencies, that they will be importing from Japan. So presumably that will leave China, Thailand, Indonesia and India as likely sources for the 2014 European Jazz.  Will they also be bringing in the next generation Brio as a city car to sit beneath the Jazz?
  • VW Golf 1.9 TDI PD 2002 - ENGINE Steam Cleaning 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi All!   My car has an Oil Leak problem, it seems is not very important but I would like to fix it.   i took the car to a garage and they told me and suggested me to Steam Clean the Engine as it was greasy and difficult to locate the leak.   But I have read on forums people not recommending it as could result to damage any electrical component.
  • Replacement small car 12 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I want to replace it for a lower mileage car with very good fuel economy (I currently get >50mpg on the motorway), reliable engine with low maintenance costs. Petrol or diesel, doesn't matter, but the fuel economy is important. Any ideas? Thanks,
  • Self-drive classic car hire in Manc / Cheshire? 22 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Daughter's school 'prom' happens in July (a dreadful US import).  However, I thought I'd see about hiring a self-drive classic a day or two, to chauffeur her & a couple of friends to the event and have some fun myself.   The car would ideally be something from the 60s / early 70s, with 4 seats and a V8  (Bristol, Jensen, Rolls / Bentley, 60s American etc)   I've found a couple of firms on the web, just wondering if anyone has any direct experience or recommendations for companies in the Manchester / Cheshire area?

  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Your Views on The CRV 4 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have been out on a test drive and it seems OK, just wondered how non biased people see the CRV as a long term vehicle. I do about 400miles per week so economy is an important factor. I was very disapointed with the Accord Tourer diesel only got 40ish per gallon, so was wondering what I can actually expect from the CRV. Any help much appreciated Roger
