Volkswagen Passat GTE - Best way to keep track of admin and renewal dates - advancespace

Hi all,
I’m curious how people here keep on top of all the car admin—MOT, tax, insurance renewals, servicing dates, and so on.

Do you rely on paper reminders, digital calendars, spreadsheets, or use any particular app?
I’ve found it surprisingly easy to miss important dates, and I’m looking for any tips or reliable systems that actually work.

What does everyone find works best? Any advice or routines that help you avoid missing key dates?

MOT?, signed up for reminders via txt (1st, if memory serves, is a month before).

Tax?, standing order.

Insurance?, they will get in touch before renewal date with price so you can either stay put or shop around.

Servicing?, most modern cars will tell you when they need servicing. Otherwise I suppose most (with a 3+ year old car) will have the service done annually at the same time as the MOT (which you can get txt reminders for).

For MOT and VED (car tax), set up a Driver and Vehicle Account on the GOV.UK website.

Insurance reminders will arrive via e-mail anyway a month before renewal. It is suggested that the best time to shop around is 3 weeks before renewal.

My car displays when a service due, but if you're relying on dates (e.g. annually) it's up to you how you deal with it.

Nowadays I put every event (family birthdays, one-off events) on a digital calendar as part of my Hotmail/Outlook e-mail service and as many as I know at the beginning of the year go on to a home-made (but very professional-looking) calendar which hangs in the kitchen. Everything is also written in my faithful Filofax.

I suggest the issue isn't just about how you organise your car admin, but how you organise your life.
