• Volvo C30 (2006 - 2009) - 08 2.4 electric power steering-loss of assistance 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
  I wondered has anyone come across this before and are my thoughts correct? My wife has bought a new Volvo C30 with the D5 engine. I have noticed a groaning fromn the power steering, esp when nearing full lock. Last night, the steering went dead, with total loss of assistance when parking. Restarting the car brought the assistance back.

  Hello, I am considering the small estate from Volvo. The V50 and have looked at the company's website which shows a feature of being able to fold the front passenger seat flat to create a continuous flat load bay floor. Is this really true, as I have also read that to fold the back seats down it is necessary to lift up the bench seat and remove the headrests, so I dont see how the load bay can be flat all the way to the front.

  Also the engine management light was on, but was reset.. the fault code was lambda control, but fault erased and light now out. The car has covered 91k mls. I also believe volvo intercoolers were prone to pin holes and corrosion on the diesel models, but does anyone know if this also affected petrol intercoolers as well. Thanks James slt

  My D5 engine is smoking profusely under light engine loads. Been into the Volvo garage. New Turbo hoses have been fitted, the EGR plenum has been cleaned and no fault codes have logged. The road test reported no smoke! Driving home gently at 1500 to 1800rpm and then accelerating produces steady smoke and then a billow as the car accelerates.

  I hear that this got rid of the delay through the engine/transmission that can sometimes develop under harsh acceleration. I asked Volvo if this problem could be overcome by a reprogramme (as I have read this somewhere) and they told me no, I need to buy the newer car. Is it true, or are they just trying to make me spend more money on a newr model?

  I have a 1997 r reg volvo v70 xc the coolant system pressurises after a few miles of driving, and it over heated, i took it to the garage where they said the head gasket had gone, there is no oil in the water nor any water in the oil, they said they didnt know why it was pressurising but the head gasket was gone.

  Grateful for any help anyone can offer - I know it's difficult without seeing the car: Volvo V40 1999, 2.0i, 96000 miles. Clutch has gradually become heavy, is now creaking and I suspect it's on its last legs. However, is showing no real signs of slipping. I've tried lubricating the pedal bearings, yet it still creaks and gorans so I fear it could be the cluctch mechanism or whole unit.

  Hiya I'm currently looking after a '95 Volvo 850Glt-the 2.5 20V saloon-not T5. And would you adam & eve it, but the radio has had a hissy fit. Fine on AM, LW, cassete but FM sometime fine & then it drops to almost inaudible (can just hear voices at max vol).

  I'm fed up with the patchy performance and poor cold starting of my Volvo 360, so I'm planning to convert the LE-Jetronic system into Megasquirt, which is a DIY-FI system that you build and solder yourself. I'm not doing it for performance reasons, but I SUPPOSE it counts as a mod, so I should declare it to my insurance.

  Before committing myself, please can I ask any fellow Back Roomers with real experience of the Volvo S60 in both T5 and 2.4T guises to share their opinion. I have long been a fan of the T5 engine, and a recent drive on deserted Swedish roads (albeit in a V70) has confirmed what an effortless powerhouse it is.

  I had my Volvo 850 conveted over a year ago at by an agent for Autogas 2000 Thirsk but the fuel consumption has never been as good as promised.before conversion i was getting a steady 30 mpg but afterwards it dropped to about 16mpg although I had been told to expect about 26mpg.

  I have a 1991 Volvo 480 Turbo, Looking into why when I remove my petrol cap I hear a long hiss. Has anyone had any probs with the tank vent system, the vapours are pulled from the top of the tank and passed through a charcoal filter and then burnt by the engine via the inlet manifold.
