  • Tyre Wear 1 May 2005 (Forum)
Not complaining, merely commenting! That said years ago a pal scrubbed out a set of front cross ply tyres on a Mini-van in 1,500 miles - driven vigorously on minor roads in Pembrokeshire. Does anyone get high mileage these days?
  • Selling an old car 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Desperately need to sell our 1983 mini, but heard so many horror stories recently about private sales going wrong I'm really worried. Been several cases recently where sellers have given their address to potential buyers, only to find they dont turn up at the arranged time .... but turn up at a later date to just take the car (or any other sitting on the drive for that matter).
  • Pregnancy & Air bags 2 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Does anyone have an idea of the best way round this, or if it really is the risk that it appears. -- Lee MINI adventure in progress
  • '93 Polo Crunchy Gears 2 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, For the first time the other day, the car decided to crunch its gears (no it was not me). Coming up to a mini roundabout, I had decided I was going to stop. So, just befor the car comes to rest, I selected 1st but it was as if I had not depressed the clutch, so I mangaed to select first but not after a good crunch and grind (wince).
  • Cute picanto 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Impressed, particulary with price, spec and headroom. One of the few small cars i can fit into. Against - tiny boot which rivals the mini, also no spare tyre! She tends to keep cars for 6 years, and while she aint in a rush to sell her current car, she does need something a little more reliable. Just wondering anyone elses opinion on what they have seen?
  • What's in a name 14 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The same could be said about the Fiat Uno/Punto, Cavalier/Vectra and many others. We then have models named after previously successful models eg Mini, Rover 75 etc. Obviously the decision to change, retain or re-introduce the model name is a marketing decision; but are the motoring public gullible enough to buy, or not, simply by the name on the boot?
  • What Fun for £20K? 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It'll probably need to be new unless there's a particularly tempting reason for going second-hand. In the running at the moment is the Mini Cooper S. A possibility is the Mazda RX-8 (though some reports say the rear seating is too small). I'm going to suggest also the Saab 9-3 2.0 Aero HOT as I've just seen it for under £20k on this website.
  • Free-revving engines 19 May 2003 (Forum)
Are Vauxhall engines generally classed as free-revving for example, or what about the engines in the new MINIs? I drive a Cooper S (not allowed to rev it yet though, only done 1000 miles!)! Honda engines seem to be generally classed as free-revving…..but what does it mean? Thanks everyone, Andrew.
  • Self drive car transporter - help! 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Despite Volvoman's thread, I don't want to drive illegally. I have managed to source a very, very cheap Mini in London. A friend wants to restore the car in Wales. Unfortunately it has no MoT and only a week's tax, so it needs to be moved quickly, and not under its own power. I think, on balance, I'd prefer to drive a 3.5 tonne Transit than tow a trailer, although as my car has a tow hitch, I could do either, assuming my standard car licence is valid.
  • No such thing as a bad new car? 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have had a go in a couple recently that I would categorise as having design flaws bad enough to ruin the car. 206cc - The roof is a costly failure waiting to happen. I have even seen one that has never been in an accident that has a twisted roof. Mini with CVT transmision (Note: I am knocking the CVT version only) It's jerky, has little standing start acceleration, can be really thristy (under 20 mpg) and must be the only automatic that feels like it's going to stall!
  • Fiesta 1.25Ghia 4 £2.5k. Can it be done? 27 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The 1.25 Ghia Fiesta appeals on a number of levels, not least because it has a sporty ride, offers reasonable economy and there are quite a lot out there, so relatively affordable. The only time there will be a passenger it's likely to be mini-No Dosh, who, being all of 3 years old, takes little room. Anyone got any views on this strategy and will £2.5k get a good un?
  • Kia Carens / Citroen Picasso 22 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Hello and festive greetings. Views sought on this one:- HJ carried a recent feature on the KIA Carens Mini MPV. There have also been odd bits and pieces about the Picasso in the backroom. You can buy a UK supplied diesel HDI SX Picaso from Carfile for about £11,000. You can pay about the same for a similar spec.
  • Brand Loyalty 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Am I some kind of brand 'tart' or did this guy not know what he was talking about? The actual score of the 25 cars we have owned is: Mini 2 Triumph 1 Fiat 4 Vauxhall 8 Audi 2 BMW 1 Subaru 1 Citroen 1 Volvo 2 Renault 2 Peugeot 1 So all you profilers out there, what does that say about me?
  • Citroen C5 Estate recalls - now UK? 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
And before anybody says I'm mad to buy one I've had approx 17 "new" cars in 23 years of driveing from many manufacturers from VW to Isuzu and many subject to recalls. Ask the 40,000 BMW Mini owners who are now subject to a gearbox recall or my friend who has a Mercedes ML270 that had a complete new gearbox after 500 miles. Simon JL
  • Trackers 21 Jul 2001 (Forum)
My comment tagged onto the end of a MINI thread got over looked so.. Has anyone got some first hand experience of the performance of the different Tracker type systems and the companies back up. My dad has one fitted but, touch wood, hasn't needed to use it.

  • Company Car choice 14 Dec 2015 (Forum)
My options are pre-selected by company and the best for me are: 116d ED Plus 3dr, Mercedes A180d SE, MINI Cooper 5 dr D (Chili+Media) or VW Golf 1.0 Bluemotion petrol 3dr. The latter two are better equipped and can be optioned up a bit more in my allowance and the BM/MB are cheaper to tax, but I can only add heated seats.
  • Goodwood Festival of Speed 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
There was a line of beautiful vintage Bugattis, an Aston Martin Bulldog and a strange collection of mini specials. Rally cars being driven on their special forest stage included an Audi Quatro, mini, MkII Escort, Lancia Stratos and Skoda Estelle. There was almost too much to take in but the display by the Eurofighter Typhoon produced some lovely noises and appeared to defy the laws of physics.
  • Bargain of the day 6 Jan 2025 (Forum)
SWMBO has reclaimed her car (Leo the Leaf) because it has isofix in the front passenger seat and mini swmbo likes to be beside mum whilst being chauffeured around, so I am now back to using the C class for commuting purposes and I’m really missing the Leaf for its simplicity and running costs and I’ve been looking at used examples where many a bargain lurks.
  • Hifi, wifi, sci-fi 27 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I hope someone familiar with the 21st century can help me out. I have an ipod touch, not the latest, with my music library on it. I have an Arcam solo mini hifi. I can drive the hifi from the ipod using a cable from the headphone socket to an aux port on the hifi. Sound qulaity is first rate. I want to do this wirelessly. How? I think i can buy a bluetooth dongle, plug it in to an aux port on the hifi, then enable bluetooth on the ipod, connect to the dongle, run the music app on the ipod, and bob's you uncle.
