Vat - Vat Qualifying vehicles, an expensive option? 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Buy a new car, get the 14.89% (or whatever it is) off the purchase price. Sell in 2 yrs without having to charge vat 2. Buy a s/h 6 month old demo car, save say 3k ish, and then sell 2yrs later without adding vat 3. Buy a s/h 6 month old car that is non qualifying and sell 2yrs later. Choices 1 &2 look best, probably 2, as someone else would of suffered some of the depreciation. -
Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - 2000 Boxster S? Would you buy?? 15 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I've found my dream car although having one or two doubts after reading about engine problems. Here are the details: 2000 Boxster S 2 owners - first was an older couple who had it from new and the current owner had it bought for her by an ex-boyfriend (who is a Porsche owner himself) from a Porsche dealership. As a suprise he also had it resprayed metallic silver/pink (via Porsche - they dealt with it all) and she's given the Porsche dealership her permission to let me have access to all her details if need be. -
What price Freedom? m/homes,caravans, hotels, boat 23 May 2009 (Forum)
A caravan then? there`s room here, the tiny Freedom caravan is only 750kg and would easily be pulled by the 200nm of the van. That said - nearly £9,000 for the Freedom would buy at least 100 nights in hotels. That`s around 10 years worth of hotel rooms, given that most of our holiday effort is visiting family in the far east. -
Pug 205GTi 1.6 - Low tickover & cut out. 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Now most of you are probably thinking it?s the idle valve, but there?s something else to add to the mix, at night, when the headlights are on, or I?ve got the wipers on, it?s simply a struggle to keep her going at all as the revs just are far too low. -

Yaris D4D vs Golf TDI 130 12 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Yes I know this topic sounds like an unlikely head to head, but I have a decision to make. I own a Golf TDI 130 5 door bought new in January 2002 from Motorhouse 2000, it\'s an EU import. I bought the Golf over the Christmas hols in a hurry after I rejected my new MINI Cooper, following legal advice. But that\'s another story! The early BMW Mini\'s were not good news... -
Musings on Sat Nav/phones + Google/Nokia maps. 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Google needs no expanation, it`s so well known, but it`s mapping needs data downloads as you drive along and one wonders at this point whether it`s seemingly class leading solution is not ahead of the infrastructure of the UK cellular networks capacity - or perhaps even pockets - requiring data plans (.Also seemingly not on S60 here) It`s perhaps less well known that mobile phone company Nokia, bought Sat Nav software manufacturer - Navteq a while back and was offering it on some of their phones free - but charging for voice guidance. -

UK pea on China`s drum - Car Manufacture 7 May 2010 (Forum)
That was my impression on meeting business minded relatives on a recent visit. Perhaps we had it coming, with our old Empire and it`s arrogant feather hatted minions, forcing people in their own country to bow to the `superiority` of an imported genteel England into Shanghai. Or was it demanding black pudding and jellied eals instead of accepting and savoring local cuisine?. -
Simple late 90's small car engines - advice needed 13 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I believe the FIAT FIRE engines are very good but ewith my budget £700-£1000 the car is likely to be well tatty by now. I love the 1.25 Ford Zetec S but I am right in the fact these need careful servicing? Something which will be hard to find on the used market. Then there i s the VAG engines, seem to be a bit ove rated from the cars I have seen so far. -
Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - Aftermarket HID headlights 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone have experience of Philips +80's? I have the sport suspension pack & am worried about premature lamp failure due to combination of hard ride, hot bulb & thin filament. -
Mercedes C200 2003 - Misfire problems 18 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Friend?s car (75k miles) is suffering an intermittent fault. Brought to idle a few miles after a cold start it misfires badly. EML sometimes illuminates. Misfire won?t clear until car is switched of and restarted, after which the problem will not occur for the rest of the day. -
how to get a refund due to dodgy car 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
A little over 7 days since I got my 2002 S80. Handling seems a bit soggy, and ride crashes a fair bit, but figured it?s done 80k, that?s the way it drives. Anyway, took it down some country lanes in Essex to office today and had to slow right down. Car nearly lost grip on back end at 35mph round a bend. Furthermore, driving at JUST 40mph down country lanes leads to a feeling of the front bobbing up and down, and you do not feel that the car is planted to the road at all. -

Speedo broken/poor performance/h. gasket 20 Apr 2003 (Forum)
His right foot is heavy but not made of lead. Finally I was a passenger in said Mondeo the other day when my friend\'s friend\'s (!) Punto blew its head gasket. He drives like a fool, stereotypical boy racer. He blasts it from cold and uses cheap oil. However the gasket blew at 80 on the motorway shortly after he had been nudging 100. -
E class Merc W211 vs BMW 5 E39 / E60 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
In last weeks Sunday Times, Jeremy Clarkson says of the new E class: "..... I guess that?s why the BMW 5-series, now in its sixth and final year on sale, is still the car to beat. There?s a sense, as you turn the wheel, that you really are part of some unholy Darth Vader-style appliance between man and machine. ...... ...... -
My 1st month, 3300 miles, with an S-Max 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
t come across a steep hill. Ride and Handling Simply a revelation!!! For a big car, this really dances. OK, it?s FWD rather than RWD but this is one entertaining car. It would be good even if it was a saloon, the fact it?s an MPV ? that?s a neat trick Ford have pulled off. It you like to have fun in the twisties, I?
