They now reckon that there are bits floating round in the fuel system and say its gonna cost another £2500!!!!!!!! Already spent £2000Anyone get any ideas of what to do as i havent really got much money left? -

Celica v 406 Coupe 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
His main concerns are "character" (something he feels both my Focus mk2 TDCi, and his Almera lack), and running costs - he doesn't want to lose too much in depreciation over the next couple of years, and would probably favour the cheaper day-to-day costs of the HDi, but would it be much more likely to prove less reliable/more expensive in parts/servicing etc than the Toyota? -
Rover 600 Diesel Turbocharger problem?? 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a 1998 Rover 600 2 litre turbo diesel which has done 62000 miles.Lately, when I'm on a long run, the engine management warning light has been coming on but goes out when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal.I found that lifting my foot off the pedal for a second will turn off the light so I do it immediately the light comes on.Usually this works first time but sometimes I have to repeat it a few times. -
Passat 99 TDI - flood water damage 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Kindly garage owner informed me that the engine was hydraulically locked and potentially an expensive job to put right for which I can claim on my insurance. Imagine my shock when I was called this morning to say that the car started and has been run for a short distance. He's advised me to have the oil and filter changed pronto (as it's emulsified) and also the air filter. Given the nature of these VAG PD engines with their very fine engineering tolerances, I'm thinking of cancelling the insurance claim, getting it "clean" and chopping it in for something else asap. -

Air filter and plugs OK. Had HGF last year and severe overheating (my wife thought it was making a funny noise, but kept on driving!). It got so hot the plastic timing belt cover melted. -
Astra steering wheel vibrations 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi folks, I run an X reg Astra 1.8 16V and i'm getting some nasty vibration through the steering wheel. The wheel shudders left to right. This problem's been around for a while and i initially suspected that one of the front wheels was out of balance but i've had them balenced and the problem remains. -
Peugeot 306 TD cooling problems 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have tried bleeding the cooling system but has no effect, the radiator stays cold and after 5 mins or so of running the engine, it drops in revs a little bit and diesel leaks slowly out the top of the injector over the engine, very small amount, but sounds to be struggling. Could it be the water pump that has finally gone and giving the engine a hard time to turn over ? -
Nissan Primera 2.2dCi cruise control 25 May 2007 (Forum)
It sets eventually, but I might have travelled ten miles by the time it does. I had thought it was a faulty switch, but once it is running I can use the same button to slow the car down. That seems to work every single time, without fail. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with speed or gear, I have tried it when in 4th, 5th and 6th at speeds varying from 30 to 70mph. -
Seicento update 19 May 2007 (Forum)
Also had coolant changed, just as a precaution. Only real fault so far is that the OS front indicator keeps running fast when I first turn it on, then after a few seconds, it goes back to normal speed - Im assuming a loose connection somewhere? Havent had time to investigate yet. Other than that, its proving reliable - in 3 weeks time it will be doing Northampton to Truro, a real test. -
peugeot 406 110 16 May 2007 (Forum)
The gauge usualy rests half way but can swing down quite suddenly then back up again to center.Sometimes it will go down to zero and stay for a few seconds, This can be accompanied by the "engine coolant to hot" warning and the "stop" light flashing on and off I am sure the engine is not over hot as it usualy happens about ten minutes from a cold start but runs for a lot longer with the needle at half way most of the time. There is another minor isue. The rev counter normaly sits at 0.8 at tickover but sometimes goes up to 1.0 for a few secs then settles down to 0.8 again.this seems to be at or around the same time as the temp gauge swinging around I would be most grateful for any help on this.If it is just a dicky temp gauge or similar then it can swing all it likes - I hope nothing serious as I am skint Thanks Mike -
Buying advice needed, please. 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I've agreed to buy a secondhand car from a private seller and have given him a cheque for £500 deposit. I'll run an HPI check on the car, but he told me he has £21k outstanding finance on it. This is the first time I've bought when there is o/s finance, and would welcome advice on how to proceed. I'm not at all keen simply to pay him the balance - what guarantee do I have that he will use it to pay off the finance instead of vanishing with my money? -
Focus TDCi economy... 12 May 2007 (Forum)
I've wondered if it's my driving style: I'm driving it so that I change gears whenever it's above 2,000rpm, except possibly first where it reaches 3,000 (often too soon). could it be that the engine isn't run-in enough yet, having not quite reached 15,000 miles yet? Or is there possibly something wrong? Whatever it is, is undermining the car as a package, and coupled with the lack of character it's making me question whether it was worth the "upgrade". -
Problem after fitting new endura engine 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Ok new here in need of help, ok here goes. i recently bought a fiesta endura 1300 r reg efi with faulty engine, bottom end was knackered i just bought a ka engine the same with only 25,000 miles was mint changed old inlet manifold etc and wiring from old engine fitted all to the new ka engine the drop it in, now the prob, its start first time but keeps reving real high, i have cleaned the idle valve throttle housing etc but still no joy, i notice that if i disconect the pipe that runs to the air filter at the throttle body end it rev's right but try to stall, so it seems to rev high once the air filter is conneted i have been through all the wiring etc and can't find a logical reason for the engine to just rev up on its own.. -
Dry valeting? 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
However, I never seem to be looking out of the window at the right time, or so it seems, as I never see any significant amounts of water running away from said vehicles and was therefore wondering how these dirty cars are changed into gleaming black cars apparently with a showroom finish. Again, I am not in the position to be able to examine these cars closely, to see whether there are a lot of fine surface scratches caused by, what appears to be, cleaning methods using very little (if any water). -
Mondeo clutch costs advice 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I've just had my 2000 1.8 petrol Mondeo serviced and MOT'd and the only major issue that came up was that the clutch is 'on its last legs' (suspect failure may have something to do with members of the armed forces rescuing me from a snow covered mountain by somehow driving it uphill in 3rd gear in Feb!). I need some fast advice because the 1 year warranty that came with it runs out in 12 days, and in the booklet it says that clutch parts but not labour ARE covered. Now I've been quoted by Nationwide Autocentre £380 to put a new one in, what I need to know is how much of that is likely to be parts and how much is labour, as I suspect my own local mechanic can do it for less but wouldn't be able to go through the warranty company and hence no money back. -
Mini 1000 Battery draining 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Bought new battery, fine. Few days later, went to start car and the battery was dead. Jump started, let run, drove for a mile or two, switched off, went to restart battery dead again. The ignition light comes on wen you turn the key and once the car has been (jump) started there is no ignition light on to indicate a charging problem. -
320cd / 330cd convertible questions.... 7 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I know it has 18" wheels, are these a big problem when travelling at speed ? Should I replace any worn tyres with normal rather than run flats ? And how long roughly do tyres last ? Do BMW diesel engines sound as rough as other manufacturers engines (not been on a test drive) ? Any other information would be great, have been reading many threads over the last hour, but not my questions have been covered. -
possible sale of TD engine and Turbo 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
(L reg '93) I was thinking about seeing if I could buy it back from the insurers as I want a few bits of the car, but seriously thinking about trying to sell the TURBO DIESEL engine as the engine has only done just short of 57,000 miles (as FORD FACTORY EXCHANGE) and the turbocharger was replaced at the same time, and it runs like dream....(intended to keep for many years yet!) I have all the FORD receipts to prove this. Can anyone advise me on what a sensible price might be to - 1. buy it back 2. sell the engine and turbo Does any body know of anyone who might be interested if I can get it back.
