  • Suzuki Vitara - Replacement bulbs cost 12 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I got the car used when it had only 550 miles on it, and now it’s just over 35,000 miles, which is about 11,000 to 12,000 miles a year. I use my car every day for long drives, and I’ve never been rough with the headlights. I reckon there have been times when I parked up to take calls or grab food at drive-thrus & eat when parked up, and the daytime running lights might have been on without me realising.
  • Help can’t decide on family car 16 Feb 2025 (Forum)
Don’t mind about look or drivability of car! Drive a manual and assumed best to stick with this as less to go wrong? Priorities are safety, reliability and space. Thought a Berlingo type van based MPV would suit us well but got spooked by the Ecoboost / wet belt engine stuff.
  • Dangerous driving dispute? 21 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I was so shook up I found a residential estate and sat there for an hour just crying.    I'm now freaking out that he's going to charge me for dangerous driving, and I'll get a court summons through, or something from my insurance to say he's claimed against me. Will it still stand if I have a police log stating I was being harassed?
  • Keep Mother sweet 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Other than a few scuff marks under the driver door handle where previous elderly owners rings had clumsily scratched the paint the wee car is immaculate. As much as I do often recommend the Honda Jazz as a used purchase I didn’t like driving her Mk II. I found it dull to pilot and thought the ride was overly firm, especially considering it was utterly joyless to drive. I’ve now had cause to borrow it for a day while old Terrance the Toyota is in for new rear brake pipes for his Mot.
  • 2 Fines for Continuous Offence 18 May 2023 (Forum)
Btw the car was not my main car - I had bought it for my son's use who told me it had become unfit to drive due to sudden dangerous issues with the gearbox whilst driving
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 - Mercedes E class brake issues 1 Jan 2021 (Forum)
i am obviously disagreeing with the dealership as i previously mentioned i do mostly motorway miles and absolutely do not drive the car hard so i do not have to brake hard in turn. The dealership took my car in a few weeks back and the head technician took my car for a drive and said he didnt experience any shuddering in the steering wheel under braking but did advise i had a warped front driver side disc.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Buying Advice 18 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Or should I go with the reviews and avoid the petrols? We will not be high mileage users, although will be doing some reasonably long drives to see family and on holiday etc. 3. Finally, advice on the practicalities of buying would be appreciated. With COVID, obviously dealerships have shut before I have had the chance to test drive or buy.
  • Fuel Saving Driving Techniques 31 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Switching between the cumulative average mpg and the instantaneous mpg settings of the Trip Computer will indicate how successful your 'fuel saving' technique is and whether you need to be more gentle or less so with your throttle opening adjustments. Admittedly, adoption of this driving style on main roads will irritate lorry drivers who like to cruise at a constant 56 to 62 mph uphill and down dale, but on dual carriageways or motorways they will usually have plenty of opportunity to overtake you.
  • Clio mk1 - Clio mk1 overheating - advice please? 26 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I just bought a 1991 clio, 55k and all the stamping of book, almost a barn find TBH. Seems to drive fine. Then.... The temp started climbing higher and higher until the red light came on. Heater in car was stone cold prior to this. Opened bonnet and there wasn't any water at the bottom of the reservoir.
  • Ford Focus - 1.8 duratec- gearbox issues - differential pin 16 Apr 2016 (Forum)
This is something I found out to my cost 2 months after buying a secondhand example with 44k miles on the clock and in otherwise immaculate condition. While driving home one day, it suddenly refused to go into gear and, after pulling over to the side of the road, I could see oil pouring all over the place. The diff pin had gone and taken with it both gearbox and clutch.
  • Ford SportKA SE 1.6 (2004) - Temperature light keeps coming on, but not overhea 24 Mar 2016 (Forum)
They took a look at forums and tried to figure it out. A valve was replaced and we've been driving it to and from work (about 45 minutes), the temperature light keeps coming on. During one journey, the temperature light came on and off about 8 times. No bubbling and no steam. The coolant level seems to be full too.
  • Vauxhall Astra, Volkswagen Golf - Help me decide - Astra of Golf 13 Nov 2015 (Forum)
From my experience, they both drive very similarly...and while there are qualities about the VW that I prefer, I have been put off by a lot of negative comments regarding timing chain issues.  Which is something I am yet to see about the Vauxhall.
  • Focus/Astra n/a 1.6 Petrol: Really useless? 11 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have been finding my driving is quite susceptible to my moods (bad mood = faster and more aggressive) so maybe somethng that can't go too fast would be good!! ;-) Had a 186 BHP BMW 320D once, never got anywhere close to it's capabilities, just once at 125mph on the Autobahn........
  • Mini Cooper D (59 plate PSA Engine) - Mini Cooper D - DPF issues.. s 17 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Worked a treat..MPG back up to the mid 60's 6. one month later the dpf light is back..and came on during a motorway drive My Weekly driving patterns are : - 1-5  local <5mile journeys per week - 1-2 >30Mile journeys per week on the motorways, typically 20-30mins My garage is reluctant to put a new DPF as he thinks there is something else stopping the regeneration from completing.. and is going to be looking at it.. but meanwhilst i thought i check with you guys is there is any known issues with this model??
  • Mitsubishi Colt 3-door - Can't get past 2000rpm, but only sometimes !?!?!? 12 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I remembered what I did last time for the temporary fix, so I turned the engine off, left it a few minutes, turned it back on and sure enough it was fine again, could drive fine but this time the engine light has stayed on. So I repeated the above process a couple of times, and then the engine light went off.     So now the car is driving fine again with no engine light on.
  • Rover 25 - Used car bought with no warranty offered at sale. 23 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The dealer said it didn't come with a warranty due to the price of the vehicle, it is also a Y-reg but I can't remember if that made a difference and as I had bought my previous cars with no warranty I thought nothing of it but was surprised when I didn't have to pay for the MOT that came with the vehicle. On 20th of August as I was driving home from doing the weekly shop I noticed that when i pressed the accelerator I heard a rattle and the speedo went down instead of up if I changed gear, so I found myself driving on a national limit road at 30-40mph in 3rd gear.
  • Ford focus hatchback - 1.6 Petrol auto 07 - Are the CVT/DSG autos any good now??? 31 Jan 2014 (Forum)
If i did get one of these 'next gen' autos i'd save up a bit more cash & buy the newest that i could and take out an aftermarket warranty that covered the gearbox. Another option would be for her to do her manual driving test and switch to a manual BUT she spends all day driving round the city so that would be a real pain, if we could stick with an automatic that would be best. I'm asking now & not in 3 years because if we need to switch to a manual in 3 years then we may as well do it now rather than get another auto.
  • ford focus 1.6 5d 02 plate 68k miles - bristol Dealership and Warranty problem 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
As if i am a fool and will just accept this as normal driving. i made them drive up hill from still and they also experienced the problem but again tried to play it down. I have already lost faith that they will even want to do the right thing and fix it after already seeing them try and con me by trying to mask the possible flat spot by over reving it.
  • BMW 3 Series Compact E36 316se M42 engine - loosing / using water and strange cooling heating 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
When sat at idle the temp gauge drops off to just above the blue zone and the heater blows luke warm at best. Once water ran low: As expected the heater blows cold in all driving conditions. The temp gauge sits between first marker and half but eventual drops off to as you run out of water. General The car drives great, no loss of power, strange noises or other indications other than water loss.
  • Peugeot 307 2. 0 HDI Xsi 136 - PEUGEOT 307 HDI HOT STALLING? 25 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Around an hour later the car started fine with no problems and I took it for another test drive. Again 10 minutes into a journey the car stalled when revs dropped. However when you bumped the car it started fine and drove fine. I drove a 50mile motorway trip to try and run any remains of poor fuel through and had a wyns fuel cleaner in it.
