  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 Estates - Electrical problem with fuel pump 4 May 2010 (Forum)
The engine cranks over ok but no start. At other times there is current and the car starts first time and runs perfectly. I've done the following checks and actions: 1 When it fails there is no current to the pump live terminal - the earth is ok. 2 Changed the green fuel pump relay - problem persists 3 Took out and cleaned the following relay terminals - OVP, fuel pump and the black relay which is marked KD.
  • Vauxhall - supagard 8 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi, We had our new car supagarded 2.5 months ago and one panel is really dirty - the rain, dirt runs off everywhere else except this one panel which is very dirty. Also when it was first done I think this panel felt 'different' to the rest. Supagard say 'does it face into the wind'!!!!!! They say some-one may get back to us or not in the next 2 days if they deem it to be a warranty problem.
  • Skoda Superb - VW Passat 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Now I am sure that the car is really good, but underneath it all is the platform, engines, and running gear, dashboard, seats etc, from a current b6 VW Passat. this was obvious with the last Generation Superb, and whilst slightly better disguised, has to still be the case today. When you check out the pricing, there is hardly any difference between the two vehicles, if you compare like for like, engines, specifications and equipment.
  • Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - 06 2.5 Warning light for engine management system 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
We are reluctanct to keep coughing up with £150 each time and a bit concerned about the consequences of ignoring the warning. Otherwise car running like a dream. Anybody out there with any similar experience and possible cure?
  • Audi A8 (1994 - 2003) - 97 4.2 S8 Missing 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I was talking to an Audi technician the other day who said it may be down to having the petrol tank at a low level, as this car had a factory induced missfire if the level of petrol was too low. I have never ever heard of this one before, but as I normally run the car on LPG and deliberatly keep the petrol level low (less weight to lug around) it may have some legs. Anyway I topped the car right up on Friday and so far no missing, but it can go for weeks with not missing anyway, but that could be because I had topped it up!!
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 01 2.0 Engine cuts out on changing from 3rd to 2nd 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
There are no warning lights at all - its like the key has been turned off. It usually restarts sometimes partially, but after the 3rd attempt it runs OK. Occasionally after a brief stop we have problems restarting the motor again it starts and then stops after a couple of revs - are the two problems linked?? We're in danger of being rammed from behind by someone who doesn't know we've 'stalled'.
  • V12 engines - beyond the common motorist? 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Leaving fuel costs aside because no one expects a V12 to sip petrol, are the Mercedes/BMW/Jaguar V12s really so much more expensive to run at 10-15 years or more old than a big European or Japanese V8 of the same vintage? The horror effect among acquaintances of admiring a well-engineered `90s Mercedes 600 is much greater than that of lusting after a Bentley Mulsanne valued by the trade at much more.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 almost stalls when idle,foot on clutch = ok 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Problems started when the engine overheated due to the cracked pipe. It overheated whilst i was parked up (engine still running) sitting outside a shop after a 50mile motorway drive and then a short drive from motorway to the shop. We got the car towed home after it began to stall, i turned off the engine after noticing steam coming from under the bonnet.
  • Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 98 2.0 immobiliser 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)

  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 03 2.5tdiPetrol in diesel - not started 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Luckily she did NOT start the car....... however inorder to push the car out of way the ignition had to be put on to free up the steering wheel and put the car in N (it is an automatic) I HOPE and pray that a full tanke drain should do the trick.. because the car had not actually run out of fuel am I right in assuming that techincally no Petrol should have made it to the Injector pump?.. of course the electronic lift pump would have kicked in but fingers crossed. Recovery took the car to a local garage who will drain the trank and change the fuel filter, (I guess that is the moment of truth.....)
  • Synth oil solution - cold cranking & seized engine 23 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The engine ran freely at the correct mix and was fine for the next 9 yrs until the rest of the machine fell apart. 2) Punto 1.9D. running on Shell Rimula 15w40 - at -6c recently was at it`s limit for cranking the engine over fast enough to start. Performed an emergency oil change to Mobil 1 0w40 the next day. Cold cranking at -6c was much faster - as fast as with a warm engine on the previous oil.
  • BMW 7-Series E65/E66 (2002 - 2009) - BMW 2004 Diesels 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
is in the petrol's favour by a tiny margin. Does anyone have experience of the BMW 3 litre diesel M57TUD30 engine circa 2004? How does it run? What does it drive like? How does it behave coupled to an autobox? I'd be buying one with about 60,000 miles on the clock, i think this is hopefully too soon to worry about aged injectors, knackered diesel pump or dpf renewal etc. are there any other big ticket items i should be aware of?
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 HDi 110 Starting problem 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have a starting issue from cold and hot, it takes 10-15 attempts before firing from cold and 2-3 from a warm engine, it started around autum last year and has got worse, understandably, durring the cold spell. The engine turns over well and runs well once started, my local garage not Pug but respected diagnosed a faulty heating circuit relay and renewed it but it made no difference, having read some of the posts here am i right in saying that the glow plugs are used post start unless it is 0 degrees C.
  • Volkswagen Polo II (1991 - 1994) - 92 1.05 water in rear passenger footwell 24 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi I have found the source of the rain water leak into the rear passenger nearside footwell,it is getting in down past the passenger window into the door and then exiting from both the water drain holes in the bottom edge of the door and also between the inner door skin and the door trim (under the storage pocket at the door base). The later is the problem as the water sits on the rubber door seal and then runs over onto the carpet and then into the footwell.Has anyone removed a polo door trim to look inside the door and can tell me if their is some kind of deflector in the door to shed any water out to the drain holes or anything to stop the water exiting insde as apposed to through the drain holes in the boottom of the door.It could be that the drain holes are partially blocked and just causing an over spill. help appreciated before I remove the door skin next weekend.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 98 3.0 Alarm gone mad? Indicators flickering 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The only thing I've found that cures it is either disconnecting and reconnecting the battery (which stops it temporarily) or pulling fuse 15 behind the immobiliser keypad (the one for the alarm). Any thoughts? and / or Is there any detrimental effect from running the car with this fuse out? Seems to kill the seat position memory too but that's about it. Cheers Justin

Ive seen the mangled wreckages of two tractors on the roads of north yorkshire now where cars have run into the backs of you,my theory is as i saw it today in poor conditions is that your tyres all 10 feet tall of them are like battleship grey ships on the high seas ie they blend in with the terra firma for all and sundry please turn your little side light switches to on im sure global warming wont be affected by 4 watts of power used i thank you...........
  • NMR indicates may be discrepancy 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Obviously one interpretation of this is that it has been clocked, are there other possible explanations ? How does the NMR work , any sensible precautions I should take ? I'm not the paranoid type who runs away from any deal at the first sign of potential problem. We are taking about two 8 year old cars here after all. Thanks David
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W202 (1993 - 2000) - 98 2.4 Autobox locked in first gear? 20 Nov 2009 (Forum)
So far when it's happened, switching car off then restarting cures problem, and pulling away more gently. Independent garage has run Merc diagnostics which come back all clear, any ideas? Would just a fluid flush do the trick - he's looking at over £1,500 just for a recon box so if there's a specialist in South East please let me know!
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 50 [Read Only] 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The truth is the fines they generate are blinding Labour to the proven merits of other better ways to keep our roads safe: like education, like vehicle activated signs, like traffic police." ... Tories would abolish the partnerships that currently run speed cameras, and make their use more transparent. "That means publishing the information that's now kept secret on each speed camera's record on safety and on fines, so local communities can judge for themselves whether a camera should stay or whether it should go," Villiers said."
