Hi Friends
I made an expensive mistake of buying a mazda 6 from Ebay few months back. Mazda 6, 2004 plate, manual, turbo diesel 1998 cc. The car has now run about 93000miles (I drove about 4500miles) now the engine has siezed.
1. Any Advice or contact information on where to get a new engine would be big favour.
2. Please do advice if you thing refurbished Engine lasts or should i just scrap my car.
3. IF you know any garage or company that can buy my car (Everything except engine works, A/c heater, rear defogger stereo, 6 cd changer very good interiors) please let me know.
Thanks in advance
Regards
K

Why did this engine seize, lost water and overheated, no oil, what. How much did you pay for it, an engine from a scrap yards will be the best price but the largest risk. A factory engine would cost you four grand or so and then labour. This could be one expensive car. Regards Peter

My son had a major engine problem with his Mitsubushi L200(terrible pickups expensive and unreliable). Needed a new/replacement engine. He couldnt afford to replace it and sold the truck as is on EBAY in 2 days, and with a small loan bought a younger Ford pickup (much better pickup... so far).
You could try that, all depends on how quickly you need to get wheels.
Or
Look for diesel engine suppliers- there is a lot about, but it will cost at least £3000.00 and probably more.
The main Mitsubushi dealer was about 15% more expensive than an independent supplied and had a better warranty.
good luck
maybe buy a small petrol engine next time?

I would sell it for salvage. There is probably a similar car somwhere that has been in a smash. Plenty of people in the trade will be able to swap the engine to yours bit by bit in quiet periods.

Thank you for your replies Peter D, sandy56, Hamsafar .
Firstly, I have not purchased an engine yet. But would like to know where could i buy it from and how much would it cost to get a new/refurbished engine for Mazda 6 diesel.
Secondly, Any clue how much is a engineless mazda worth...what could i expect if i sell this car?
Thirdly, The car broke down...not sure why. First garage said, it could be one of many reasons and the did not want to dig into it. I have delivered it another company now in Halifax, called Feather Diesel. They have promised to provide me a complete report in a day or two about the car and cause for breakdown etc.
The only thing i know is the car's oil light came on and off occasionally, engine temperature was normal, nothing unusual on it. The turbo used to make a noise lately. I showed it to a Mazda main dealer garage (Perry's Huddersfield) they said it sufficient engine oil was present in the car, it should be ok to drive. Adviced me to change the engine oil switch later. They did advice i have the turbo looked at. I was driving the car to Newcastle thats where it got the turbo refitted few months back (by previous owner)And car just broke down on the motor way.
Best Regards

Read the other threads here concerning this diesel engine - then get rid of the car and buy something else.

A new engine will cost many times what the car is worth. If the car is at Feather diesel then let them have look and advise you.

Could you have damaged it when you overfilled it back a few months back?
Recently the engine oil lights came on i added too much engine oil almost upto half way mark on dip stick

Hello Friends
Thanks rtj70 and other users for your suggestions.
i had feather deisel inspect my car, they said the engine cannot be repaired. It can only be replaced. I have almost made up my mind to get rid of this car as i cannot afford the expensive repair.
On the point about me adding extra engine oil by mistake ...that was a few month ago and after that incident, I got the car inspected by feather diesel, halifax and Perrys mazda dealer in Huddersfield and they both said car is alright for future use.
To be honest I feel i have been unlucky with this car. Now i know the value of warranty offered by companies/dealers. So my advice is to buy cars with warranty even if it is a 6month or 1 year warranty.
If you guys know someone who could give me a decent price for a otherwise good mazda 6 except for the blown engine please leme know.
Cheers
K

Warranty companies often try and get out of paying anyway. If you had so much trouble with this one why get another Mazda 6? Certain cars just seem to bring bad luck to people.
My mate had two Fiestas had no trouble at all with them, I had two and they are useless. For that reason I decided not to buy a third even though they are good cars as a cheap banger.
PS You have my sympathy must be a real pain.

Up to now you've still not told us what has ACTUALLY failed. If the engine had the correct amount of oil in the sump then its unlikely to have seized up the bores or crankshaft as they get continuously splashe/immersed in oil. A seized engine is a very abiguious statement and to say 'it can't be repaired - only replaced' sounds like the repairer is looking for the easy way out. Gererally when an engine is starved of oil due to, say, oil pump failure then the top end usually siezes up first. This means that most times the rest of the engine is generally ok once the oil pump is replaced. I think you need a bit more clarification than 'it's unrepairable' - why? What's ACTUALLY failed.

There are a few sellers also on ebay who will collect and replace engines on Mazda 6's, but it depends onhow much you are willing to spend. Here's one here:
mazda 6 diesel 2002>2005 engine fitted Item number: 300304829747

Hope this helps.

Hello Friends.
Thanks for your replies on my thread. Robin you are right I did not mention what is wrong with the engine. However, it has become almost impossible for me to find that out. I have taken my car to two seperate garages (got them towed there) and they both mentioned that the engine has sized up and cannot be repaired. Both were good garages One authorised Boch garage called Jesmond in New Castle and the other Garage is FeatherDiesel, diesel engine experts in halifax. (These guys actually did a good job few months back on my car and fixed the engine stalling when idling problem.)
The second garage even charged me for an hours labour and all they said was it would cost you more to get any more details about whats wrong with the engine and eventually after spending that extra money our advice would still be replace the engine no one can fix this.
Hence this is all I knw about the car and the engine's problem. Its been a nightmare. This car. Just sheer waste of money :(
Thank you all for replying on this thread. I finally sold my car to a garage for 600GBP. IT had all the goodies inside nice clean car just a useless engine and turbo. In my short 3-4month experience as an owner of Mazda 6, i spent a lot of time being towed from one place to the other and got this general feeling that local mechanics/main Dealer mechanics both did not know how to fix this car.
example: Perry's Mazda Dealer garage...I took the car to them told them this car does not start and check engine light is on. They checked engine error codes and told me replace the EGR valve. I did as advised, job was done by Perrys for 400GBP. In less than a month car would not start. Then Perry's were too busy so told me to get the car's Fuel pump repaired by Feather Diesel, Halfiax. Which i did and it again costed me about 350GBP approx.
Check engine light kept coming on even after this and ech time error codes were for EGR valve. Local mechanics kept shying away from doing much on this car said it was Japnese car and they were more used to the Fords and Vaxhaulls etc.
Anyway based on my experience I would only recommend don't buy mazda's and when you buy a secondhand car, buy a car which has atleast 6months warranty left on it so that you can judge if the car is worth keeping, before end of warranty expires.
Good Day!!
