  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.8 Hesitating/Stumbling Zetec TDCI now fixed! 10 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I think mpg is now better but not overly concerned as drivability is now as it should be! and the fix... Ford dealer checked the chassis plate and found that the final drive ratio of our car is 4.06. They checked the engine management system and found that this was set for a final drive ratio of 3.41. They corrected the setting and all is ok now. It appears that if you book car in for hesitating they follow one set of procedures, if you book in for poor mpg they follow another set...
  • Shopping centre car park - legal advice 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Basicaly people are charged £1 for the first hour to use the car park, but now they are charging people just for driving through. Before the preicent was built cica 1970 (Ted will probably know the exact date) it was a local road with houses on both side, that road is now the car park road. We are convinced something must be ilegal here.

  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 2.5 parked up overnight and wont start now 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I have a vauxhall vectra 2.5 v6 SRI. On driving home yesterday i noticed the EM light come on the dashboard. It stayed on for approximately 60 seconds during which the car felt lumpy and unresponsive. This cleared up, the light went off and the car drove home just fine .
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe (2009 - ) - You're the one that I want?... 30 Jun 2009 (Forum)
So, having now read HJ's full Road Test and in possession of a min-brochure and the promise of a 2/3-hour solo test-drive I never imagined that I would be 'diverted away' from my desire to own a 3.0 Diesel S XF, but I believe that I'm about to be?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.8 Super high idle from a cold start 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Once its at 1500 rpm it idles and drives fine without any problems at all. It is only at the initial cold start up phase where the idle is worryingly high as if the car is going to explode on me while I am in the car.. :( I didn't get an engine error engine lights come on either.
  • SAAB 9-3 (2002 - 2007) - 05 1.9TID 150BHP 73 with Clutch Problems 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Needed to put my foot under it sometimes to lift it back up but once lifted it would stay in its initial resting position. What caused me to raise the issue with the dealer in the first instance was when driving along on the test drive and coming back down through the gears there was a shudder in the clutch pedal. After doing nearly 200 miles yesterday I have ended up with the problem described above with the pedal not coming back to resting position and also the issue of the shudder when coming down through the gears.
  • Dealer sinks to new low 27 May 2009 (Forum)
The Citroen dealer had then rang the lady again (the day after the service) at home to request that she book the car in for pads as it was a safety item, and that the car could be dangerous to drive. Needless to say the independent had taken the wheels off, checked the pads, discs, road tested the car and found absolutely nothing wrong. Pads having plenty of life left. The woman was really jumpy and nervous about driving the car (she had a baby with her as well) and the independent garage guy had to spend quite a lot of time reassuring her that the car really was safe.
  • Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - Hyundai i10 or Suzuki Splash? 17 May 2009 (Forum)
Just wondering if anyone has had experience of one or more of these cars. It's basically just for my daughter and me (she's still at schol) for me to drive by myself for shopping and local errands and to pick up said daughter from friends' houses when it's late, that kind of thing. So mainly for use in London although I'd like to be able to drive us to visit family in Hertfordshire and Norwich or even take short holidays now and again.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 2.5 Reducing tyre wear - are tyres getting soft 10 May 2009 (Forum)
My Passat is a 2.5 V6 Tdi auto. I've owned it for 5 years and my driving (distances, driving style, mix of town/m-way, etc...) has not changed during this time. The tyre size it takes is a 225/45x17 91 Y. At 49k, I fitted Michelin SPS2's to the front. At 55k, these were switched to the rear and two new SPS2's were fitted to the front.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 91 2.0 irratic idle 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have just got myself a 190e 2.0 1991 on a 'H' plate, its got around 65,000 on it and is a real cracker.......apart from the fact she idles about 15-18,000 rpm whilst in park and neutral then drops to 1000ish when you put her in drive. Its pot luck as to wether or not she stalls or the idle fluctuates between 500 to 1800 rpm. Sometimes she drives ok but always idles really roughly. I have changed the dizzy cap and rota arm and was told the previous owner had the fuel distributer and fuel filter changed all to no avail.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 16v - throttle cable problem 10 Apr 2009 (Forum)
If I tighten it any more the car refuses to start if I rev it as it start it starts ok but the revs die and then it stalls. On the position I have it now its a lot nicer to drive and the car starts ok. I am slightly worried about the clip though which is used to adjust the throttle it is very cheap and I am worried it may snap while driving due to fatigue from adjustment (I will buy a new one and keep it in the car in just in case).
  • Toyota RAV 4 (2000 - 2006) - To change it or keep it? 22 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking at it thinking whether getting rid for a cheap runabout would make any sense. To be honest my wife does not like driving particularly and would not have a car at all if she didn't have the horse, so make/model/fashion status does not matter particularly (I bought her the Rav from a dealer mate on a whim to replace her previous motor which was one foot from the grave).
  • Replacing my Volvo S80 18 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I?ve been driving for nearly 34 years now and have never had a car for as long as the last 4 years that I?ve been driving a January 2002 Volvo S80 2.4 (140) SE manual, but I?d now like to decide what to replace it with.
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - wrong tyres same axel 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Dilema: should I push the envelope and insist they replace both tyres. on the basis that i have effectively been driving an illegal car for the past 12 months unbeknown to me, and as their MOT passing station effectively passed a car that is uninsureable in the event of a crash. Now I am knowingly driving this car in this position...
  • Insurance for learner as named driver 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I drive a Merc CLK, my wife is second named driver on I had a prang in another car in May 07, which wiped out a bit of NCD, at last renewal i was granted 4 years NCD My wife drives a Mitsubishi Grandis, with me as second name driver on it, she has 9 years NCD We do reasonably well at shopping around each year for our car insurance, tend to get good deals, and tend to get cashback via Quidco, as opposed to simply renewing existing policy.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 1996 1.9 Engine Management Warning light 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
An auto electrician who endeavoured to look at possible error reports, informed me that the car was made before they started putting what I think of as a hard drive in 406s (forgive me for not knowing the right term). So, his software couldn't help. I know the glow plugs need replacing. Could this be anything to do with it? The last job done on it was to do with the imobiliser key pad a few hundred miles ago. ?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.6 quick to heat up 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)

  • Toyota Corolla and Verso (2002 - 2007) - 06 2.2D Clunking noise 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The Verso T3 I have owned from new (Jan 06) it's a 2.2 diesel, and has 15.600 miles on the clock, and has about 6 weeks to the end of it's warrenty, and goes for the last warrenty service Dec 1st During the last couple of months, a "Clunk" has developed, either in the engine or the drivetrain, at least, the clunk seems to be coming from the front of the car. When parked overnight, or for an hour or so,the clunk occures after driving a few yards from rest, and it only happens once per "driving time" and does not happen when parked for short periods ie traffic lights etc. Front seat passengers when asked to listen, agree that the noise is mechanical, and "comes from the front".
  • Reporting speeding bus to bus co. 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
He also went through a 30 section in a village at atleast 40 odd given the rate he was leaving me behind, but since I would have to break the limit to keep up, I hung back and caught him up later on in the bends. How dangerous is driving a big bus like that in such conditions? I was told the driver would likely get a slap on the wrist and be reminded of the limits for buses unless he had already been reported or caught before. What are the grip levels like?
