  • Alfa 156 motor control system failure 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
On 6 occasions in the last year the information read out on the dash displays 'motor control system failure - go to dealer' and the rev limiter cuts in at 3000 revs. The ECU has been replaced as has the throttle potentiometer and various electrical connections, but it still happens, intermittently. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TR
  • Speed limiters for young drivers? 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I just briefly read in a magazine about a company who can fit 'speed governors' to a young motorists car by parents who want to prevent their youngsters going too fast. Basically they re-map the ECU so preventing the youngsters vehicle from going over 70mph without restricting the performance elsewhere thus making the young driver not realise it's been tampered with. Will it ever take on? -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it!
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - car broke just after warranty expired 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Ten days after the warranty expired the car has developed a fault, in fact it will not start suspected ecu or fuel pump problem. Are there any rights that I have although the 30 days warranty has expired to get the dealer to repair the car?
  • Audi A4 Hunting?? 29 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The engine settles to a smooth idle after about 5 seconds. Anyone got any ideas?? I wonder if the ECU was affected by the dead flat battery or whether it could be just the throttle body that needs cleaning. Cheers, Chris
  • MK4 Golf Running rich/hig emissions 19 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My mechanic replaced the lambda probe, cat converter, cleaned out throttle body and replaced engine manifold to no avail (and £900 later). Now he reckons its the ECU. Could this be the problem? Advice urgently required!!!!!! Thanks
  • Citroen C8 16 Sep 2005 (Forum)
HJ (in his car by car breakdown) mentions problems with water ingress into airbag ECU. Ours went in for recall but was not fixed correctly. As a result the car has had to go back in (the electrics started to play up big time) and our dealer cannot give us a delivery date for the required parts.
  • Loss of drive - 98 Mondeo 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I'm having problem with the accerlation on my Mondeo and even after replacing the complete exhaust (including the Cat), Distributor, Plugs & Leads did not fix the problem (thanks a lot). Just been to another garage today and they said no fault on the ECU but it "might" be the Throttle Sensor. Any advice before I fork out more money. Thanks in advance.
  • Astra engine misfire 7 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Took the car to a local vauxhall garage (not main dealer)they have changed a coil and one spark plug checked for air leaks tried to reset the fault on the ECU but the engine light comes back on with the misfire on a test drive now they are checking the timing. Can anyone suggest a reason for the misfire? and should I pay the full amount of the bill for checks done if they cant cure the problem?
  • Stalling Golf 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Mk III Golf P Plate 1.6 engine. Is the Temp Gauge driven directly form the sensor or is it driven from the ECU. A strange fault where the engine appears not to warm up and between 6 to 9 minutes into the journey the engine will just stall once, it will willingly restart and not fail again on that journey. On other trips the gauge quickly rises to a normal temp and never stall/cuts out.
  • Fiesta manual steering conversion 1 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Rather than throw a shedload of money at it I would consider dropping in a manual rack and ditching the pump. Other than sorting the wiring to the ECU switch and fitting an aux belt from standard non assisted car, is there anything else that would need to be done. (No jokes about spinach please!!!) I thinking perhaps if different length track rods etc?
  • VW Sharan- Rev Limiter 17 May 2004 (Forum)
Just purchased a 99 (v) VW Sharan 2.0. The rev limiter seems to be cutting in at just 4500 rpm..any ideas..I was guessing this may be an ECU controlled figure that can be changed ? Also have manifold blowing noise and a little oil leaking from sump..any advice on these 2 welcome if you have experience but i am guessing i just need to take it to my local mechanic to find out the damage !!
  • Timing advance kits... 29 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi I have seen loads of these for sale on eBay. What I can gather is that its a resistor that replaces your IAT sensor fooling the ECU that the air coming in is much colder... therefore advancing your timing. Do these "mods" really provide significant[1] power advantages? Can you expect any premature engine wear/damage? They claim no change in your fuel consumption - but I find this hard to believe.
  • Mk.3 Mondeo....towbars 2 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I need to fit one soon to mine, but I've been told by two Ford dealers to fit a Ford towbar and electrics and not to let "others" fit it as there is a good chance the car's electrics and ECU will be damaged. Sounds a bit extreme to me. I know Ford will say this to get the job and the cash, but I don't want the warranty invalidating due to someone making a mess of the electrics. Any experiences guys?
  • Vauxhall Ecotec 2 11 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Doesn't seem related to long/short journeys. Local dealer has diagnosed that it is running rich and that ECU is faulty (other sensors check out OK) so had it changed. Of course there is no difference. Any ideas out there on what this could be? And how can a car with electronic injection run on, surely it all goes dead when you turn off the ignition?

The first time the car wouldn't re-start, even for the RAC and didn't show any fault codes. The last time the car started to shudder badly then cut out. Is this an ECU fault? All help would be appreciated.

  • Ford Focus 1.6LXTDCI - Location of DPF Tank on 55 Plate Focus 16 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I am about to refil the DPF fluid on my ford focus myself, I'll worry about resetting the ECU later. I have searched extensively on T'internet for some photos showing the exact location of the tank and the exact position of the pipes I need to disconect and reconnect, as this would help with the pre planning phase of this work.
