Who would feel comfortable trusting this automatic braking device? http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,69960-0.html I'm amazed it will be going on sale in the US, as the potential product liability issues would be considerable.

  • Automatic petrol car in £7000 16 Oct 2022 (Forum)
    Hi fellas, Looking for a used automatic petrol car for family use under £7000. Since my wife will be mostly using it within city from home to office, want something which is: 1) Reliable, doesn't break down often 2) Cheap to run and maintain 3) Cheap to tax + insure for a first time UK driver 4) Doesn't depreciate in value massively as we plan to keep it for atleast 3-5 years before possibly selling it and get a new car So after a month long research and hunt, I've narrowed down my search to the following options: 1) Vauxhall Astra  2010 (10 reg) 1.6 16v Elite ( 28,150 miles ) = £6,680 2) Vauxhall Astra  2012 (61 reg)  1.6 SRI ( 33,603 miles ) = £6,990 3) Vauxhall Astra  2013 (63 reg)  1.6 SRI ( 56,956 miles ) = £6,985 4) Vauxhall Corsa  2010 (10 reg)  1.4i 16v Exclusiv ( 44,000  miles ) = £5,495 5) KIA Venga 2 2011 (11 reg) 1.6 ( 32,000  miles ) = £5,995 6) KIA Venga 2 2011 (11 reg) 1.6 ( 18,000 miles ) = £6,295 7) Ford Fiesta 2011 (61 reg) 1.4 Zetec ( 53,345 miles ) = £6,695 8) Ford Fiesta 2012 (61 reg) 1.4 Titanium ( 54,084 miles ) = £6,690 I'm leaning towards either option 1 or option 5 due to them having low mileage and price.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 05 1.6 Auto transmission failure 1 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Before this we had a 1.8 manual C-Max with no problems at all. We part-exchanged it for the diesel automatic after eighteen months (from the same Ford dealer, at considerable cost) only because my wife had a frozen left shoulder and we needed a car with automatic transmission and electronic handbrake.

  • Astra 1.4i automatic 94 starter problem 11 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi I brought a Astra 1.4i automatic about six weeks ago. Any how I noticed that every time I turned the car to the right or right hand down and accelerated I would get a metal on metal sound from the engine. This problem got worse until I got the rattle when driving straight with or with out power. when I next started the car I got the same noise as the engine turned over until it started the noise continued in the back ground as drove home only getting worse if I turned to the right but not to the left.
  • Focus C-MAX TDCI CVT? 19 May 2004 (Forum)
One of the variants listed is the "1.6 16V Duratorq TDCi, Durashift CVT" -- see http://www.fordconnection.com//FordEuropeMultimedia/GBR_EN/002/cmax_specs.html A diesel with a CVT sounds to me like a very nice idea -- diesel economy, and a smooth automatic, without much of a dent on performance. Comparing the "Fuel performance and emissions" figures of the automatic against data for the the manual, it looks resonably efficient: * Fuel consumption up 16% (5.7 l/100km v 4.9) * Top speed barely changed (112mph v 115) * 0-62mph barely changed (11.6 sec v 11.3) * 31-62 mph much better (7.9sec v 12.1) -- probably because the manual is done in 4th gear, rather than starting in third * Emissions up 17%, from (129gm/km to 151) That all suggests that the CVT should be little more expensive to run than the manual, and offer better real-world performance, while still being much more economical than a petrol automatic However, none of the reviews I have read suggest than any of the journalists had driven one of these.
  • Astra automatic gearbox problem 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Just stumbled on this site - fabulous source of information! Anyway, I recently picked up an L-reg Astra 1.6 Automatic from my Gran, who can\'t drive any more. :( Well, I just wanted to ask someone who might have experience with Astra autos - from a cold start it changes gears at much higher revs than usual, about 3000 RPMs to move out of first.

No - not my day to day clothing. Yet again a very old topic has reappeared.  Is there no software facility to automatically convert a , say, two yr old thread to 'read only'?   Or do HJers enjoy such resurrections?
