205 GTI 29 Dec 2000 (Forum)
My 205 GTI runs really eratically on tickover, I understand that this is caused by the fly wheel which on the 1.6's is actually too small, and this worsens as the car ages, Peugeot corrected this problem on the 1.9's with a larger fly wheel. The only thing I have heard of to smooth out tickover is an ecotec valve, which I can get hold of, but is there nothing else to be done? -
Ford S-MAX - When to replace high mileage 30 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Will talk to our regular independent garage and ask them to do a filter clean. We have a 2012 Ford S-MAX 2.0 TDCi Titanium with 160k mileage bought at 136k mileage one owner in 2019 (was a high mileage car for someone driving 19k p.a . We don’t think the DPF has been replaced before we bought it. -

Peugeot 308 S HDi 2009 - Oil Pressure - Oil Pressure issue 2 months after P1 service? 27 May 2014 (Forum)
Peugeot 308 S HDi 2009 - Oil Pressure light has come on (over Bank Holiday, joy) only two months after a P1 dealership service. Oil info light on start up says Oil OK. I've looked at the dipstick and it looks OK (I understand from other threads in the this forum, black oil is usual). -
Mini Cooper S - ABS light flickering after start up? 19 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hello one and all, 3 days ago my 2002 Mini Cooper S developed a strange fault with the abs. After the car is started and as you pull away in 1st gear at a slow pace (no spinning) the abs light flickers and kicks in for a few seconds then clears, after that it is fine and would be for 500 miles hypothetically. -
Ford fiesta Zetec s 1.6 TDCI - Fiesta TDCI - issue when cold 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I bought my Zetec S TDCI just over 12 months ago and it has been a very problematic car. It is a 57 reg with 60k on clock. Now when I start it the engine feels like it is about to stall and when I accelerate there is a rattle/ticking noise. -
Ford s max - White smoke and rough idle on first start 20 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I am new to this and as a ford owner so please stay with me!! I have recently purchased a ford S Max on a 56 plate (2.0 TDCI) and it has just started with a rough start and white smoke. I have noticed on a cold day it's harder to start, it's rough and has white smoke for a longer (2-3 mins) period than when warmer like today when it started on first turn and was rough and white smoke for circa 1 min. -
The naked sump 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I knew it was out there - on Mrs Oilrag`s new Panda. I could sense it - in it`s allegedly thin coat of black paint - a virgin in it`s own right. Never a blast of salt or night-time condensation. Never a lash of grit - slash of rain or salt salt SALT. -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - Advice on buying used mini on Irish plates 19 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I am really confused, I have found a good deal on a Mini Cooper S (2002 £7995) and I thought it had private plates. When I asked if these were included in the sale the dealer explained that the car has Irish plates and had been imported at some point. My mum works at a BMW dealership and they have advised not to touch the car as it is imported? -
More C-Class woes 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, With my limp-home mode resolved - for now at least - I'm on to the next problem with my old Merc (wish I'd bought an Audi, even my old Xantia cost me less per mile). Driving home today I noticed a metallic clunking the o/s/f suspension. A quick inspection in the dark found the o/s/f of the car to have dropped - the wheel is up into the wheel arch, I'm surprised the tyre wasn't rubbing on the wheel arch when parking. -
By bye, Barchetta 10 Sep 2006 (Forum)
There was just now way I could safely get Mrs B and BabyBarchetta in safely, as the cot kept flying off the boot rack at 60 mph, no matter how much gaffer tape I used :-) So that´s that. A fun little car that should continue giving its new owners good service, and in a soppy emotional way I´m pleased it´s gone to a good home ? a very nice young couple took it away, absolutely delighted. -
Mondeo TDCI engine-heater fuse blows?? 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Even if the relays took nothing, at 12 volts that?s 62.5 amps; at 13 volts that?s 58amps. It looks tightly-sized to say the least? (1)The warranty is about to expire and the local Ford agent will ?Trace the fault? but I will have to pay if no fault is found or a wiring snag is found. -
Honda Prelude Mixed tyre situation 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Being a bit of a Prelude fan, I bought the car and it came with an awful mixture of tyres. On the front n/s is a Cenataur supreme from Kwik fit. On the front o/s there is a marangoni Trio. On the rear is a Debica tersus and a tyre on the o/s called an accis I think. The question is: should I wear these out or get a decent set of treads? -
Buying a bike 13 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I'm not ruling anything out (except perhaps scooters), but there seems to be huge void between 125's and 600's, with the exception of one or two 500's. The old Suzuki GS500 seems to go on and on, but I would like something a bit less ordinary, maybe. Singles are OK (I favour something narrow after a wide flat-twin!) -
Driving while sleepy 17 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The trouble is sometimes you don\'t have much choice - so what do you do? I live about 50min drive away from work along a motorway (it was halfway between my wife\'s and my own workplace) My wife\'s having our first child in 6 weeks and so I\'m likely to end up without much sleep. I can\'t afford to move and I have to go to work, there\'s no public transport (couldn\'t afford it anyway) and so I shall have drive tired. -
Motorway Madness! 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Does no-one give way on motorways anymore? The old school thought of M-S-M appears to have given way to M-S-S (Manoeuvre-Signal-Sometimes). I have lost count of the times where I have left a suitable gap between myself and the car in front, only for someone to dive in, leaving me with no option but to slow down to account for the fact my safety zone have just been nicked. -
Which Civic Auto? 16 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I am currently looking to change SWMBO ancient Concerto auto and am looking to spend 6 - 8k pounds on a 5 door Civic - the trouble is which engine? The Concerto has a 1.6 engine which works well with the autobox but a trawl through Autotrader\'s website comes up with several 1.4\'s - does anybody know if these are conventional or belt driven boxes and are as reliable as the 1.6. Have checked HJ\'s CBC breakdown but there is not much info on the 1.4. -
Tyre noise... revisited! 3 Aug 2002 (Forum)
If so what are the recommendations for the lowest noise, they are 195/60/15's as far as I remember. I seem to have read that the p6000's are generally very quiet. Regards Simon -
MINI Cooper S R56 - MINI Cooper S Timing Chain Failure 21 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Morning all, I'm looking for a little bit of advice. We own a R56 Cooper S, the 1.6T one. On Friday, it cut out, when my partner was reversing out a parking space at her work, and refused to start. The AA came out, looked at it, decided he reckoned the timing chain had snapped, as it appears the top end isn't turning, and towed it home for us, since most garages were shut for the holiday weekend.
