US Dept of Motor Vehicles Test 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Saw a film last night on DVD and one seen was a room full of taking a DMV (Dept of Motor Vehicles?) test. One of the characters appeared to have a driving licence already. Out of curiosity: 1. Is it like the UK theory test but you have to pass it every few years? or 2. Do you have to re-take it and pass if you have been convicted of a motoring offence? -

Disappearing garages 23 May 2003 (Forum)
Is this a symptom of the low profitability of selling petrol these days? Will we all have to eventually drive miles out of our way, and queue for interminable periods, to fill up with petrol? Or is it simply that the supermarkets are winning the battle for our petrol money? -
Increased consumption 4 May 2003 (Forum)
Now it\'s about 50 mpg. The car is a Peugeot diesel (mileage 204,000) I can\'t detect a leak & my driving pattern hasn\'t altered. I suspect it\'s a symptom of a greater malaise,I\'m just not sure what though. Any ideas would be appreciated. -
Volvo 850 (1996) Lambda Sensor after MOT 28 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have informed my usual garage about the problem (they sub-contracted the MOT) and they said that they will look into it. Any ideas what may have happened - is it serious? Should I still be driving it while it's investigated? Many thanks for suggestions. -
Mathematics 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I believe there to be a formula whereby you can calculate the mph per 1000rpm in any gear, provided that you know the gear and final drive ratios and the overall diameter of the tyres. Does anybody know this calculation? Purely as matter of nerdy type interest, I would like to check the speedo accuracy at M-Way speeds. At the moment I tend to assume that 76-78mph is around a true 70, and wonder why most other are going so slow (except for the German cars of course). -
Invalid Cars 4 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Driving through Crawley this lunchtime, saw one of these little electric cars (the sort usually driven by old ladies along the pavement). This was being driven by a man but along the road, even though there was a pavement available. -
Honda S2000 Imports 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Driving past an import specialist yesterday, I noticed a lovely Honda s2000 sitting outside, looking all lovely in shiny blue. As this car has now been around three years or so, was I looking at the start of cheapish imports coming in from Japan? -
Why the CC won't work... 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
By the same score, any car with a driver i.e. Limo should be exempt. As it is a congestion charge and does not apply if you drive into London out of hours and leave the car parked during charging time, taxis are then effectively private transport exempted from the charge. Ben -

The only way to buy 19 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I was posted a while back about trying to decide between between a Polo, an Ibiza and a Fiesta, well the Polo won, primarily on comfort/driving position and the whopping discount. Rev. -
golf stalling problems 7 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Problem is that the car stalls when it comes to a halt. This is only a problem in the first few minutes of driving. It restarts with no problem and then never cuts out once warmed up. I had the car serviced and had the carb cleaned. The problem has improved but it is still vulnerable to stalling (ONLY when halting, say at a rounabout or traffic lights) when cold. -

Premonitions 3 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone experienced ‘hunches’, premonitions, call them what you will -when driving, that have subsequently turned out to be accurate? I have a couple of interesting examples to kick off with, but am a bit reluctant to post them without encouragement as I don’t want to be branded a weirdo, as I reckon I’m fairly normal for most of the time (honest!) -
