  • Landmark Jaguar E-type heads to auction 2 May 2018 (News)
This particular right-hand drive E-type was first purchased on 21 December, 1961, from RB Massey in Hull. The owner cherished the car, but an expanding family necessitated two more seats, so it was part exchanged in 1965 for a Jaguar MkII saloon. The car remained in Yorkshire until 1976 when it was purchased and moved to Glasgow. The owner’s aim was to restore the car when time and funds allowed.

The Jaguar carries an estimate of £5500 to £6500, which is standard fare for a well-kept XJ-S, but its celebrity status could push this figure somewhat higher.

  • A Grand Monday: Vauxhall Astra 8v Envoy 2 Sep 2019 (News)
We’re not convinced by the slightly misogynistic wording of the advert, but there’s no denying the fact  that this Vauxhall Astra Mk4  looks like an absolute peach. 'Ladies’ shopping car' or not, it appears to be in absolutely remarkable condition. A 1.6 Envoy automatic, it’s the absolute base model of the Mk4 Astra engine range with the exception of the gearbox and was once Vauxhall’s best-selling Motability model, which means that many of the survivors have led sheltered lives and have covered low mileages - in the case of this example, fewer than 4000 a year.  It’s wonderfully basic, right down to the black rubbing strips, lower bumpers, Doom Blue paintwork and steel wheels, which are remarkable corrosion-free.

  • Record price for Peugeot 205 GTI 2 Aug 2016 (News)
Inside, the two-tone half-leather seats were like new – thanks to the fact they’d spent their whole life under cover while the rear seats had never even been sat on. And the car came complete with its original Philips radio cassette player (in full working order). Needless to say, its owner was a fastidious enthusiast and the GTI came with plenty of history.
  • Ferrari 308 GTS QV set to light up Silverstone sale 16 Sep 2014 (News)
A 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalve could fetch nearly £100,000 when it goes under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ sale on Saturday, 20 September. The car, which has covered just 10,318 miles from new, has only had two owners – the first being the supplying dealer H R Owen. The 3.0-litre four-cam V8 uses Bosch electronic fuel injection with four valves-per-cylinder to produce 240bhp.
  • Motoring group urges fuel sellers to pass on savings 5 Jun 2014 (News)
AC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “Transparent, fair fuel pricing is vital for the economy and to maintain the trust of motorists.” “While two thirds of Britain’s 29m cars run on petrol we use twice as much diesel, around 26bn litres a year, which demonstrates how important it is to business through our 460,000 HGVs, 3.2m vans and all the diesel-powered company cars on the road which cover high mileages every year.” “In the last year retailers have been noticeably quicker to pass on reductions in the wholesale price to forecourts, but we are now seeing an unfortunate blip in that trend where diesel prices are higher than they really need to be.”   “There has been talk of the fuel retailers using higher diesel prices to keep petrol prices lower, but whether or not that’s the case, the simplest way to operate must be to make sure retail prices always reflect wholesale prices proportionately.

  • A Grand Monday: Volvo 440 29 Jan 2018 (News)
Having covered just 45,000 miles from new and been in the care of its most recent Octogenarian owner since 1999, it is rust free with a very clean MoT history, and an immaculate interior. And even though it's the entry-level Li variant, this one was specified with the 1.8-litre B18 engine which, turbo aside, was the quickest and most reliable unit in the 440 range.  Sure, a Volvo 440 is hardly a style icon, nor is it a car that will ever be regarded as an iconic or thoroughbred classic.

  • KIA Develops 3 Alternative Ways to Go Green 28 Oct 2011 (News)
Towards the end of 2010, Kia was one of seven manufacturers to sign an agreement to make hydrogen fuel-cell (FCEV) vehicles commercially available by the middle of this decade. The car that is regarded as a panacea for a zero-emissions future - one that can make its own electricity on the move, cover long distances between refuelling and emit no CO 2 - is coming. Hydrogen cars are just one strand in Kia's alternative-fuel strategy, however.
